As far as a list of links, SiouxSports.com already has the most comprehensive list of D-I hockey links on the net, including official sites, fan sites (including blogs), and message boards. The point of SiouxSports.com has long been to bring together information about Sioux athletics from all sources -- we've been aggregating professional news sources since the beginning; including fan-written articles on the front pages for at least 8 years or so; fan-submitted photos for at least 5 years; the discussion forum has enabled any visitor to post a viewpoint and others to comment on it for about 5 years; and we kicked off the college hockey blogging trend (complete with links to stories on the SiouxSports sports pages) 3 years ago. Not to mention some pretty unique rankings analysis tools. The point of that is not so much to revel in past glory as to reassure you that I'm always watching for new ways to bring information about the Sioux to you. Watch this space early in the season...

There's been a lot happening over at UNO lately. A commission studying UNO's financial situation recommended a move to the MIAA. UNO would be welcome in MIAA The NCC insists an expansion or merger will save the conference, but UNO says they're not interested in merging with NSIC. NCC wants to keep UNO; committee targets MIAA Meanwhile, the additional scrutiny of UNO's budget has revealed that the former Vice Chancellor and an aide of the Chancellor were taking lavish expenses and vacations for themselves and their families out of the athletic department budget. Regents criticize 'loose' UNO spending oversight And (I suspect I'm going to regret including this one) the commission studying UNO's athletic shortfalls concluded that hockey was the solution. Interestingly, their conclusion is that the new arena being too large killed attendance. Group says UNO hockey needs arena

Because it was simply anti-NDSU smack that didn't have enough to do with UND, DI-AA, or division reclassifications to merit allowing responses that would have undoubtedly just degraded into pages full of juvenile sniping between a few UND and NDSU fans. I think those threads make the board less friendly and accessible to hundreds of less "hard-core" Sioux fans, who I'd frankly rather serve. This contains a false implication that deserves correcting -- the thread wasn't shut down because it was about NDSU, it was shut down because it was an anti-NDSU troll, designed solely to piss off NDSU fans. Had I thought it had been intended as or was likely to turn into the advertised "II vs. IAA" debate, it would have been allowed. Delete vs. close is a tough choice that you have to make in an instant. When there's any question, I try to err on the side of close instead of delete. Admittedly, this is undoubtedly the least consistent part of our moderating.

Not here. Every single Sioux fan in this thread was pulling for the Bison, said it was a huge win for the program, and gave congrats. (Contrast OETKB's "controversial" post in that thread and Tony's reaction with what we're seeing today!). The funny thing is that those fans trying to dismiss UNI after this game are the very ones who predicted that an insurmountable talent gap between UND and I-AA would allow UNI to score at will, guaranteeing a blowout that would teach UND how big the gap between II and I-AA is. It's not surprising that some are having troubles coping with being the ones who learned something on Saturday. Anyone arguing that theirs is bigger than yours on a message board is probably somewhat insecure about how big yours is.

Remember folks, this is a UND message board, not an anti-NDSU one.

I did notice in both the leadup to this weekend's football game, and in today's coverage of the result, the online Herald and Forum have the same single articles written by Wayne Nelson. On one site he's referred to as Herald writer, on the other Forum Comm. Co. Looks like the Forum has already begun shifting toward just running the Herald-written stories for its UND coverage.

I think that might not be true anymore. I believe the NCAA passed this proposal to remove the strength credit for playing I-AA's. I'm really quite sick of the playoff selection criteria for D-II changing every year.

Panthers... I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Dressler. Mr. Dressler... Panthers.

The fear is that those numbers could begin to affect the scoreboard numbers in the second half. It's a lot easier for a defense to play at this level for 30 minutes in an afternoon than 40.
-
Typo. Make that 10:12.
-
Some additional half-time stats from the gametracker: Possession UNI 19:48 UND 10:12 Passing UNI 7/4/0 20yds UND 11/6/0 64yds Rushing UNI 24/82yds UND 14/78yds Penalties UNI 4-39 UND 2-30

56 yd FG attempt??? Could it be a desperate fake? Bison-like trick play to try to change momentum?
-
Try this: UNI broadcast It's not as good a feed, for me anyway, breaks up a lot. But interesting to hear the game from the other perspective.
-
Yep, we gotta get the D more rest. How about a turnover, UNI? You're one behind...
-
True that. No matter who wins this game, we've again confirmed what we've known ever since watching the Bison's transition: The top teams in D-II can be competitive in I-AA
-
I just broke one open myself after a long decision process over whether I really needed one or whether starting to drink at this point would prove dangerous... I just switched over to the UNI broadcast. Has anyone else been listening to this one and what they think of the game so far?
-
As the announcers suggested, that has to have a significant effect on the psyche of the UNI players and fans. Of course, trying that and walking away again with no points would have had quite an effect on the Sioux. It's a gamble, I'm just glad we were on the winning side
-
TAKE THE THREE!!! It's the beginning of the 2nd. I hate to say this, but is a FG really the sure thing we're assuming...
-
Nice to finally grind out some yards instead of on one big play. Our D definitely needs the rest -- time of possession: UNI 9:02 UND 2:43 Argh... hate stopping on the one again.
-
Now UNI is making huge mistakes. Our D completely smothering their O has certainly taken a little life out of the crowd. Hopefully it's also calming our boys down and it might just be making their boys a little nervous. Gotta get some points on the board...
-
I have no idea how up-to-date it will be relative to the audio broadcasts, but UNI offers a live game stats GameTracker

A lot of fans (myself included) like to see a North Dakota team make the news for big games. I would expect quite a few reasonable Bison fans to be interested in seeing how UND, with a completely D-II recruited class and 36 scholarships, does against a very top tier I-AA program. I think he was making fun of those Bison fans, like "DI In Fargo" above, who would insist they don't care about UND, but who really despise UND so much that they'll be "secretly" listening to the game because they're so excited about the distinct possibility of UND getting trounced. Guys like this... Bisonville
