  1. They keep talking the talk: NCAA warns schools to fill seats or drop from I-A ranks The implications for UND are obvious, both in terms of our long-term potential to ever target I-A and the potential benefits of short-term turmoil and conference shakeups that could follow I-A teams being forced down to I-AA.
  2. You did remember to vote with the "but I'm a Bison fan" disclaimer, right Sadly, beating the Gophs would barely earn a mention on ESPN, but it would probably be more along the lines of how NDSU and Minnesota regularly compete at hockey, in which the UND Bison regularly win D-I championships. Anyway, Chuck Haga says in the STrib:
  3. Since there's no UND game this week, this seems to be the regional football game worth talking about. Sioux fan seem to have varied opinions on this game: Pro-Gopher Gophers are favorite Big 10 team, cheer against traditional football rival NDSU Pro-Bison Easier to cheer for on hiatus rival NDSU than rival Minnesota, good for North Dakota, further proof how much divisions overlap, Gopher fan hoping this will get Mason fired I'm curious how the numbers really come out (though I really should have started this poll five days ago).
  4. This would be kind of funny if it hadn't cost the NDUS so much:
  5. Is it snowing in G.F. now? Can't believe it's already down to 32 degrees -- I just noticed how cold it is when I was checking the (similarly frigid) Madison weather for the weekend.
  6. As (apparently confusingly) hinted at: Cool new blog features! The latest blog posts about Sioux hockey are always on the front page at http://siouxsports.com/ The latest blog posts about college hockey are all available from http://collegehockeyblogs.com/
  7. Thanks for the filings GDM. I really appreciated reading them, as I know did a lot of other peeps.
  8. Got this in my email. If the contributor would like to take a bow, feel free. Summons Notice of motion for preliminary injunction Plaintiff's memorandum in support of motion for preliminary injunction Complaint
  9. Sioux sue - Grand Forks Herald
  10. Yep, sorry for my continued misunderstanding in the earlier posts; but I believe my last post (of 12:03) correctly addressed the actual situation. I can assure you that it isn't coming from here. In fact, as I alluded to before, I doubt the spam is even from a fan of these sites trying to advertise them; such spamming at people who aren't even interested in this team would only anger people, not make them fans.
  11. Ahhh... thanks for your help, your interpretation is obviously correct. I got lost in one train of thought and never quite recovered. I don't see any traffic coming into the site from links from baseball or other off-topic chat rooms. If they're archived and Randall can provide a link, I'll take a look. If it is happening and the perpetrator is reading this, please don't spam other boards on our behalf, we don't want it or need it. However, given the lack of economic incentive to do so and that the obvious reaction to off-topic spam would be backlash instead of interest, I'd be a little surprised if it were from someone actually trying to support this site.
  12. It's unlikely to be one person or company. Those funny "type in the letters" things you see when you register for new message boards or buy tickets (CAPTCHAs) are meant to differentiate humans from programs. When someone develops a program that can defeat a certain CAPTCHA, they distribute it, sell it, and offer forum spamming using it as a for-fee service. When that happens, you'll see a lot of spam across a certain class of message boards / blogs / etc... (in your case, Prospero). Once that's a problem, the only real remedy is for the operator or administrator of the software to put in additional blocking measures; the odds of shutting it down on the other end are very low (given their strong economic incentive to spam, and that they're usually outside U.S. law in places such as Russia).
  13. Peculiar. I assume it's right for you now?
  14. Definitely a robot. In recent months, services have come into existence that, for a modest fee, will spam an advertising message onto hundreds of thousands of message boards. At first, we dealt with it primarily be deleting the offending message. Late this week, I modified the rules of the board such that new users can't post until manually approved by me. I hope to take additional measures soon, as I determine additional ways to block the robots without interfering with legitimate new users.
  15. Oakcrest is gone, but there's a new bar in it's place (at least as of last time I was in Madison, about a year ago). I agree that Regent St. is the place to be pre-game, though post-game feel free to fan out to State St. or whatever you like. If you haven't done Madison before, the Student Union lakefront terrace is not to be missed. I'm expecting to be around Madison myself, that weekend -- I should be the only guy with a SiouxSports.com sweatshirt
  16. Sorry, not real.
  17. Good point. If we join the same conference as NDSU, NDSU would undoubtedly be obligated to play rotating home/away games with UND by conference rules. My scenario was if UND and NDSU are ready to begin playing when UND and NDSU aren't in the same conference, I wouldn't be at all upset to renew the rivalry with a guarantee game in Fargo. That would give us another year to come in on more even ground to begin a contractual rotation with the first game in Fargo.
  18. Buning indicated, when he first approached the Bison over a year ago, a willingness to do what it takes to get the game going again. I applaud that, and think he will strike a fair deal while showing good faith to "mend fences". Most of the speculation here has either been to rotate, giving NDSU the first game; or rotate, giving NDSU the first two games. I think another possibility would be a guarantee game at NDSU (since we'll be nowhere near full scholarship and they'll be guaranteed a sellout), followed by a non-paying rotation with the first game at NDSU. That would make two games in a row at NDSU make a lot more sense for the Sioux, and still give NDSU most of the benefit.
  19. No one was talking about NDSU leaders (who have already proven equally childish to UND's leaders with statements to the press about how they didn't want to play UND out of spite because we were mean to them). You keep trying to lash out at UND about anything other than the point I'm making, which is actually about Bison fans -- those NDSU fans who used to feign indignance at UND fans questioning the Bison reclassification can now officially get down off their high horse. You guys have definitely at least equalled anything I saw out of Sioux fans.
  20. Ummm... reread my post that seems to have launched this firestorm. No one is complaining that Bisonville is coming up with reasons they think the Sioux shouldn't reclassify -- it's quite expected, as the Bison have a particularly vested interest in the Sioux not moving up. I said that those Bison fans who were so indignant that some UND fans dared question their reclassification can now get down off their high horses. You guys have only reinforced that.
  21. Wow -- that is sad. Some Bison fans (but not just one or two) are desperately trying to derail UND's reclassification by fabricating an "investigation" into UND's finances (no doubt with UND's best interests at heart ). They've been contacting all the local media and reporters to urge them to write this as an article, all of whom have told them to buzz off, so instead one submitted it as a letter to the editor. It's pretty pathetic. The Bison fans who used to complain about some UND fans questioning their reclassification can officially step down off their high horses now that Bison fans are leading an organized effort to actually try to stop UND's reclassification.
  22. You don't need a dictionary, you can get automatic translation
  23. No, no, self-aggrandizing is best done with as large words as possible
  24. The first point was supposed to be obvious: SiouxSports.com links to college hockey sites including blogs The second point was intentionally vague, loquacious, and self-aggrandizing, but the essence of it was that a related effort has long been under way that I suspect you'll like... watch this space.
  25. Thanks -- you beat me to it. Dragging a thread into off-topic juvenile smack just because an NDSU fan posted really destroys the conversation and isn't welcome. I appreciate the community helping to police itself, and we'll do what we need to do to keep that sort of thing in check.
