  1. AFF you are the guy at a party that is always ticking people off, someone would say white and you would say NO black....Why don't you just go away, don;t go away mad, just go away! I have a question that nobody I do not think has addressed. I support UND keeping the name 100%, but if we have to change it and the NCAA said we have to. Then why does the NCAA not pay to change the name. So for UND to do that, the NCAA could start with replacing the arena we are going to lose because of their policy. So I say around 150 million should cover it. Untill the nCAA wants to step up and pay for the changes that the think should happen then they should pay for it. Or as part of the lawsuit UND should sue them for that amount of money.
  2. Aff and OrygunSue....First I think you both want the whole world to join hands and sing together or something. Has the State of Oregon made you so PC that you can not see right and wrong. Maybe this letter from Kupchella will wake the NCAA up. I think it is great that he finally took off the gloves which is what everyone needs to do every now and again. AFF you are always on here bashing the Sioux. Maybe you both should meet and have a great PC relationship and take in a few tree hugging ceremonies why you are together. PC is ruining this country and people like Kupchella need to finally stand up and say enough is enough. GO Sioux and SIOUX FOREVER!
  3. Whatever....You should try and state a point instead of just making a blanket statement. He should not be removed. The University nor the Great State of North Dakota should not be embarressed. He is doing the right thing and the NCAA is just wrong and everyone on this site(or most of us)know that it is wrong.
  4. Ok I promise not to take anything you say seriously again. But I was impressed with the letter. Just so you guys now I have to write a paper on the nickname for one of my summer classes. I might need to have you guys help me with finding the info for doing my argument paper. The joy of doing this is going to be great. I have a PC instructur and I know she is going to be the type that bashes me for thinking UND should keep the name. So i also make sure i wear all my sioux gear to class every chance i get.
  5. OK I get to ask the dumb question, is this serious or sarcasm at its highest. I do not think they have that ability....please no bashing me for asking the question, I jsut got alittle confused.
  6. After listening to that interview I would think that Mr. Toews is gone. It sounds like he is looking to his pro career right away. I am sorry but that would suck. I want him to stay and play for the Sioux at least one more year. One more thing you are right. Kessel one statement. Extreme face Makeover buddy....UGLY, it should be a crime to be that UGLY!
  7. I am now posting the response I just got form Mr. Pomeroy. I does not support 5289. Hereis the emaail her sent me....The only thing I took out was my address. I do not need any pissed off people showing up at my door...Thanks all and once again these guys just do not get it. Do they not realize talk is cheap and they can be voted out of office. Go Sioux! May 31, 2006 Dear Nels: Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 5289, a bill that would respond to NCAA sanctions. I appreciate hearing from you on this important topic. As a proud graduate of the University of North Dakota (UND) and supporter of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo, I have been in strenuous disagreement with the NCAA and their conclusion that a "hostile and abusive" atmosphere exists at UND. However, I do not feel like anything is likely to get better on this issue by having Congress get involved. Rather, in my view, we would simply bring on a new, national forum for a noisy debate where "hostile and abusive" and UND are further linked in public discussion. I have rarely seen sensitive topics move toward constructive resolution when considered in such a polarized, partisan arena. I sincerely believe Congress would inflame the debate rather than do anything positive. I am happy to discuss this further and invite you to write again with your thoughts on this. I hope as further action is taken, common ground with broad consensus can be found. Like you, I want press coverage on our beloved UND to be about the outstanding education, students, sports teams - not about the nickname controversy. Hopefully, that day will return soon. Sincerely, EARL POMEROY Member of Congress
  8. I think this is a link to the story in the Bismarck Tribune. http://www.bismarcktribune.com/articles/20...tate/115320.txt
  9. The article in the Bismarck Tribune stated that he is for UND keeping the nickname.
  10. But it sounds like they have tribal support. UND does to it is just that the NCAA seems to think to only look at the one reservation that does not support it and ignores the others that do support the nickname. One another note really quick, did anyone else notice that last week the Board of higher education of North Dakota placed its first Native American on the Board, and guess what....He supports UND keeping the nickname. Good for them. I think that is a giant step in the right direction. Go Sioux and Support 5289....
  11. PCM your letter just proves that the NCAA wants to hold UND to a standard they are even unwilling to meet. The NCAA is a joke and once again I will say I support HR 5289......They(the NCAA) need to be monitored and there power reduced....Go SIOUX!
  12. I am still trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about....But I give them credit that I got a response. I do think it is funny that he mentions that no other requests have been made from other groups. I had asked them to look into why schools with names like Vikings and Fighting Irish are allowed to keep there names....He danced aroud that one. I think the FSU and Notre Dame just make way to much money for them....
  13. Here is a copy of an email I received from the NCAA regarding the nickname issue. You will notice that the only people that he mentions that brought this issue to the NCAA were Psecial Interest groups. It is all BS. I welcome your comments and hope that this helps. I still maintain that the NCAA has oversteped its authority and that we will eventually prevail in the long run. I support HR 5289....Well here it is. I included his name and phone number as part of the email..... Dear Mr. Haug: Thank you for your e-mail, which was forwarded to my attention at the NCAA national office. The decision to restrict Native American mascots and imagery was made by the NCAA Executive Committee. This group of college and university presidents represents more than 1,200 NCAA member institutions. Although the University of North Dakota maintained that its logo and nickname are used with consummate respect, the position of the seven of the namesake tribes and others affected by the hostile or abusive environment that the nickname and logo create take precedence. The decision of overwhelming majority of namesake sovereign tribes, regarding when and how their name and imagery can be used, must be respected even when others may not agree. The NCAA became involved with the Native American mascot issue due to three events: o Concerns raised by various Native American interest groups. o A request from our member institutions. o The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Statement concerning the use of Native American images and nicknames on sports symbols. There have been no similar requests or statements concerning any other group. Thank you for your comments on this important topic. Bernard W. Franklin Senior Vice President for Governance and Membership NCAA P.O. Box 6222 Indianapolis, IN 46206-6222 Phone: (317) 917-6222
  14. Why these people are total nut jobs!!! It is fiction people and a great book made into a movie. it happens all the time. Maybe the catholic church should worry more about priest that touch little boys and not a fictional movie....
  15. Good to know that on April 7th we will have NCAA chanpionship # 8..... Thanks for the info I was also searching for this.
  16. Very nice work. it is great to see them play again. I do think next year is going to be the year of the SIOUX!!! But that video made me miss college hockey again. DAMN when is the season starting. I want it now...... Just to throw this out there if someone can just let me know if they have a clue on when next years schedule is coming out. Thanks oh and one last thing......GO SIOUX!
  17. Hi Sioux-cia I am a hockey addict too
  18. I havea question does anyone know when this is going to be voted on? I also want to know wherethe congressman from ND are? They should have been co-sponsors of this fine bill? This is great I want to see Myles Brand squirm
  19. I like this one the very Best. The White Devils. That is great. I still thought the UND Fighting Attorneys would be great. the Chant lets co Sue is still inplay. My Uncle in fargo thinks the name should be the UND Fu$#@#$. I can just hear people around the water cooler. So did you see the F%$#$@# game last night it was great. Those Fu&%#$@ can really skate. Just a thought.
  20. Ok but you have to admit that this is normally a liberal issue. You might not be but come on, you have to be able to see that.
  21. Yes I think he needs to know that there are people that support and are willing to voice our support. I will be sending him an email
  22. That would be the truth...The school leases the building from the family as far as I know. I say we should at lest sue the NCAA for a new building if we lose the Ralph
  23. I want to quote Charles barkley as well as I can. when this ruling first came out last year. We was asked about it on Bob Costas show on HBO and Charles said that "he thinks it is a ridiculous ruling and maybe the NCAA should worry about graduation rates instead of a nickname". He also said that native amercians want it both ways, they want to complain about the nicknames but they surely want to use it in their names for casinos when they can profit from it. I have emailed the NCAA and got a short response today and i have also contacted Sen Dorgans office. I want nothing more then next year this time for Brand of Franklin fromthe NCAA to have to hand a Championship trophy to the hockey team. That would be the Best ever. Go Sioux
  24. Are you an attorney or jsut play one on the internet? Just curious
  25. What is next, is the NCAA going to roll out all the liberal tree huggers Hollywood stars to tell us what to think about this issue. Maybe Grand Forks will get really luck and Bono will come there and tell you how racist the name is. I am serious I would not be shocked if that is next. Go Sioux and keep the nickname at all costs. It is a fight that needs to be fought and won. So all the PC people can know that people can wear a jersey of a native american tribe and feel pride when we cheer and when we wear our jerseys.
