Totally agree. There are a number of people, I'm sure both in the news and outside of the news, that worked in support of UND keeping the nickname. They owed us nothing, but for their own reasons they fought for UND to keep using the nickname and for that I am very much appreciative.

Looks like the NCAA took the cop out answer "don't blame us, blame your state board" when in fact the State Board's actions were precipitated by the NCAA decree. That said, looks like it's the state board that has to be encouraged to change, here....

I forwarded the link to the Herald story and copy of the letter to the Mpls Strib. Can't hurt to try and appeal to other newspapers to pick up on the story, though unlikely it may be that any action will be taken. Yes, they were probably already aware but at least we know the information is in front of them.

I only saw the one replay on TV but I didn't think he actually hit Gregoire in the head. Could be wrong, though.
