  1. I have a hard time understanding why any loyal Sioux fan would start such a thread when we should be concentrating on all the positives that are currently unfolding for this team. Are some of you bitter about hockey careers that were never realized or something like that.

None of you pessimists and naysayers have seen enough of a healthy Forney playing WCHA hockey regularly to draw the conclusions you are making. If he is healthy to start next season at least wait until next years Christmas break before you toss him on the bust pile.

This post is right on, I don't know how you can label him a bust.

The kid hardly ever plays, his whole life he played every other shift for TRF. Now he is lucky to get 3 shifts a period. It takes a while to adjust to the playing time scaleback. Same goes for Vandy. Notice whenever vandy gets a regular shift he plays really well?

  2. The point is that it's ridiculous for any of us to judge how much talent he does or doesn't have when we've seen him play so little. We haven't seen him play much because of the injury. I'm not going to pretend to know what should happen next season. It depends on how serious the injury is. It depends on how quickly Forney recovers after the surgery. It depends on how hard he works to get back into shape. So there are just too many variables for anyone to claim to know what should be done.

I'm sure that after the season is done, Hakstol will carefully weigh the options and make the decision he thinks is best for Forney and the team. I have no idea what that decision will be.

All I know is that I talked to Michael on media day before the season started. He told me that he was 100 percent healthy. Now, maybe he wasn't as healthy as he thought he was. Or maybe he wanted to make the team so badly that he wasn't the best person to judge his physical fitness. Or maybe he re-injured the shoulder in practice or during a game. I don't know. And because I don't know, I'm not going to second-guess Hakstol's decision.

He has a long history of various injuries. Shoulder, ankle etc. I don't know when the last time he played a whole season without injury.

  3. I used to think it was a given that Duncan would stay four years - I'm not as certain of that anymore.

To your point, he is phenomenal. Last night, he triggered two other goals that he didn't get points on, and with all the chances, could just as well had 5-6 points.

Also love his work on the PK. Would encourage people to just watch him in isolation sometime - he's always in the right spot, and reads plays really well... I like his defense nearly as much as his offense.

Be certain, Duncan is a great player but he doesn't really translate into the NHL.

  4. I'd probably put Andreas Nodl or even Lasch instead of Trotter.

Also, Sports Illustrated On Campus named Ryan Duncan their Most Valuable Player and the WCHA the best league thanks to Ryan Duncan among others.

I'm going to agree with Redwing on this one. Nodl over Trotter.

I'm also bumping Raymond for Morin, and Either Goli or Chorney for Niskenan.

  5. Here's my take on Joe, Lee, and Lammy!

Lammy - Battled through the first half of the season without a lot of help from the blue-liners or back-checking forwards. He has been very solid since the break and could potentially be one of those guys to steal a game down the stretch.

Finley - I have questioned his puck moving skills, but have been more critical about his lack of "toughness". With his size, he should play a more intimidating style of hockey.

Lee - Just scares me every time he is on the ice!!!!

I mostly agree, except Lee doesn't scare me that much.

  6. Do I think Joe Finley will make a career out of playing proffesional hockey? Yes I do.

Do I think the only career you will have is washing dishes and scubbing toilets at Pizza Hut in Grafton? Again the answer is yes.

Do I think you are still clueless? Yes.

Do I wish you would just go away? Double yes.

Do I have a feeling that would be an up-grade from your career? Yes I do.

  7. Did I say you are clueless most of the time? Yes I did. By the way, where has barribal been the last half of the season?

Do I care what you think? No I don't.

Do I want Joe Finley to not be a liability against Maine and the Gophers and other teams with good team speed? Yes I do.

Am I scared when he is on the ice against these teams? Yes I am.

Do I think he skates well? No I don't.

Do I see him make arid passes consistently? Yes I do.

  8. Plus, remember that in Girl's, there is no East and West. it is all one league, so stats should be able to be compared across locations. They all play each other. Hennessy is a D-man, not a forward.

Also, Sell led the Lameroux twins in scoring the one year they all played in ND, when Sell was a Freshman and the twins were 8th graders. Am not saying that makes her on par with them, just saying she is a legitimate scorer.

The twins never played girls high school hockey so your right. They played Bantam A Boys and were some of the better players on the team. Also remember those girls probably never leave the ice as willistons team is very weak. Not saying they aren't the best in the state, I just want you to keep that in mind.

  9. Seem's to me we swept the goophs on their home turf. Last time I checked hockey was a team sport. Big Joe is not individually responsible for win's and losses. It seem's you still don't get the team concept. Your dislike for certain players seems to be justification, at least in your mind, for laying blame on those you think are not up to your "standards." Why don't you stay over with the high schooler's at least some of them buy into your bull$%!#.

Ok, think that he can keep up with the Teddy Purcells and the Jay Barribals.

Did I say you should blame the Maine loss on him? No I did not.

Did I say the team would be better off with a player with better puckhandling skills and better footspeed against skilled teams? Yes I did.

  10. You missed an entire thread, apparently.

Early in the season, a poster and a bunch of others thought Joe Finley should be signed by Washington so he'd be their problem. Essentially, they wanted Joe off the Sioux.

That was me and I still think he is a liability against teams like the gophers and maine. (teams with good team speed)

It has been my stance all along, he does well against teams that aren't really fast but he doesn't have the foot-speed to skate with the Jay barribal's or the Teddy Purcell's.

  11. 4th best??? :silly:

The kid will be on the top pairing in St. Louis next year.

Goligoski, Vanneli, Peltier who would you toss out for this guy? The only one I could see would be Peltier and that is a stretch.

Top pairing? I think Barret Jackman and Eric Brewer will have somthing to say about that.

  12. 10 UAA @ 1 UMTC

    9 UMD @ 2 SCSU

    8 MSUM @ 3 UND

    7 UW @ 4 DU

    6 MTU @ 5 CC

I think that MN will have their hands full with AA. That series will be divided and will go to OT the third and final game. Saint Cloud will beat Duluth in 3 games. UND over Mankato in 2. Wisconsin and Denver is a toss-up-oop just flipped a coin and Wisconsin won the coin toss, so I'm going to give the series to them in 3 games. And Tech beats CC in 2.

Youre dreaming if you think AA can skate with UM on the road, with that said I see UM losing to their next opponent.

  13. So, if I am reading this right, Herbel was named the winner of the 2006-2007 Outstanding Senior Athlete in North Dakota because the coaches in the West Region conspired together to give all of their first place votes to him. Is that correct?

Also, could someone point me to the section in the criteria for the award where it says that the winner must be the player that goes the furthest as far as hockey career goes? Seems that has been bantered about by some posters here as a reason Herbel should not have won the award. To me it also seems that it is very difficult to read into the future in order to determine who that person will be. maybe some different stages should be factored in, such as "who is the most successful hockey player next year", or "who is the most successful hockey player in five years", as each of those appear to be requirements for winning this award according to a couple of posters on here.

Maybe the award, since it has already been decided and won't be changed, should just be left as it is. Not everyone's favorite player, or son, can win.

Choyt could you point out to me where in the criteria for the award it says it should go to someone who wasn't the best senior hockey player in the state?

  14. 10 UAA @ 1 UMTC

    9 UMD @ 2 SCSU

    8 MSUM @ 3 UND

    7 UW @ 4 DU

    6 MTU @ 5 CC

    -----------------

    You heard it here first...

UMTC over UAA in 3 - UMTC in Game 1, UAA in Game 2, UMTC in Game 3

UMD over SCSU in 3 - UMD in Game 1, SCSU in Game 2 and 3

UND over MSUM in 3 - MSUM in Game 1, UND in Game 2 and 3

    UW over DU in 2

CC over MTU in 3 - CC in Game 1, MTU in Game 2, CC in Game 3

I guess I'm kind of confused. SCSU wins games 2 and 3 but loses the series?

  15. Let me first say that I thought Wurden should have won the award. I never got a chance to see Herbal play, but getting to see Wurden play a couple of games was a treat. Great skater, physical, and played a lot of minutes. To say that this is embarassing for North Dakota hockey is complete ignorance on your part. One kid from the west wins the award the last 15 years, and its a horrible thing? I feel sorry for Wurden, but he will probably still get drafted, and have a great hockey career playing college hockey somewhere. I don't think not winning Mr. Hockey will have a huge affect on him. I think it will be more of a motivator than anything.

I have a question for you though. You are the coach of Dickinson. You played Bottineau and the Herbal kid lit your team up, and is the best player you've seen all season. Grafton and South won't play you, so you don't get a chance to see their top players. How can you vote for a player that you've never seen?

Dickenson beat bottineau 3-2? He didn't light anyone up except Beinfeit and Antler River and HB (a team that lost to whap). He couldn't even light up BHS's JV.
