  1. And yet Zajac played a regular shift on a team that went to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. While irmen I don't think ever saw NHL ice time last year and ry-ry got his ass kicked along the boards (like the wuss that he is) every time he was on the ice for philly. Yeah those two were/are much better players then Zajac.

    Ryan Potulny

    2005-06 Minnesota Golden Gophers WCHA 41 38 25 63

    Drew Stafford

    2005-06 North Dakota Fighting Sioux WCHA 41 24 23 47

    Travis Zajac

    2005-06 North Dakota Fighting Sioux WCHA 45 17 27 44

  2. There is no way that a forward in the AHL and one who is a part timer for the worst team in the NHL are better than, for example, Travis Zajac and Drew Stafford, who play significant roles on NHL Playoff teams!!! You are quickly losing credibility. Too late, it's gone!!!

Funny Danny and Ryan played against Travis and Drew in college. I think Danny and Ryan had the upper hand. If you take Drew stafford over either of them youre a complete moron. Travis was one of the best player the sioux have had but he wasn't the player those two were.

  3. Not quite sure how you came to this conclusion nor do I care. I probably shouldn't even spend any time even bothering to respond to your question. I nothing against North Dakota players, I was huge fan of the Panzer boys when they played at UND as well as the fore mentioned players above. You forgot James Massen in my opinion. I honestly don't see why some think if a player is from North Dakota he automatically has a right of passage to play for the Sioux snfd and should be playing in front of somone else based on him being from North Dakota. I haven't seen anyone in the High School ranks in ND that even warrants a look in getting a shot at the next level. There is a player that will be a 10th grader at Central that plays defense that comes close to fitting that bill, I haven't seen anyone that stands out. Its surely not Arnason. That kid will be lucky to make a junior team after high school.

I don't understand how Irman and the Poltulny boys weren't recruited harder by UND, that seems to be a loss. I had heard that Mr Potulny had told Blais that you take both or you get neither. Personally, I don't care it's water under the bridge.

I do know we will probably never see Walski in very many games during his career at UND unless there are some serious injury problems at UND. I would say that Walksi is on par with a Ryan Sofie. There is nothing special about that kid. He was a nice story in High School but that is as far as it goes.

I think some NHL scouts might disagree with you. There was a rumor of the blue-jackets looking at a defenseman from South last season. In recent seasons many ND players have gotten to the Next Level "Junior A or D1".

I'm not sure who from Central you were talking about, no one on that team is close to fitting any billing.

  4. I am so glad the coach isn't listening to your respect or not respect list or your evaluation on talent, if he was he would have to be high. I would be willing to bet that Grieco reguardless of your assessment will do a decent job fighting for playing time and will probably get his share of work. All the while Walski will be sitting on the bench opening the door for the players.

Did I say the situation should be re-evaluated or not? Did I close the book on him?

How do you know Walski is so bad? I atleast have reason to be critical of Greico's play. Your only reason is a vendetta against ND hockey players. Let me guess you didn't think the sioux should have tried harder to get Danny Irmen or Ryan Potulny or Grant Potulny? There have been some very good sioux players from North Dakota and others that the sioux should have recruited harder and regret now.

Just of the top of my head:

    Jay Panzer

    Jeff Panzer

    Nick Fuher

    Tim O'connel

    Quinn Fylling

    Andy Schnieder

    Others that got away:

Ryan Potulny (This one hurt, Danny and Ryan are better than any forwards the sioux have had in a long time except (Parise and Toews).

Danny Irmen (Really hurt, tough to explain this one)

Grant Potulny (This one hurts because it could have been the sioux winning those championships if they had Grant)

Corey Mclean (Captain of Notre Dame)

Mike Peluso (It wasn't like he flew under the radar)

Mike Eickeman ( I can think of more than a few Defenseman I would have traded for him)

  5. Goon, how dare you question playswithhimselfs credibility, if he says something, you need to accept it as "the way it is." Or as Stone Cold Steve Austin put it...."that's the bottom line......." :silly:

Hey, I need some work done on my air-conditioner what do you think you can do for me?

  6. Throw him down the river!

When Hakstol wants to rest Phil, play Walski. After all, he did make about 70 saves in some High School game within the last 5 years or something like that. :silly: Oops! Forgot that he's from North Dakota, which autmatically makes him better than Grieco. Sorry for the omission.

So far, Grieco can't beat UAA but he can beat MSUM and SCSU. So, I think Grieco should play only against SCSU and MSUM, leave UAA to Phil, and perhaps get a few more odd starts here and there during the season.

Although I think the situation should be re-evaluated at the start of the season. Nothing has lead me to believe Greico will rival Phil for ice-time.

I like how you talk down on Walski like some do to Greico. It's ok for you to talk down Walski but everyone who talks down on Greico isn't a Sioux fan. Where do you get your logic Red?

  7. I was just wondering how much Grieco will get an oppurtunity to play this year....

My thought is that he is going to play substantially more, which will:

    a) rest Lammy more than this past year

    b) get him more acustomed to WCHA play, more than what he gets in practice

    c) allows him to play in more of 'pressure' situation by playing him in-game

I think you may see Grieco play 1 out of every 4 regular season games, mainly against the less competitive teams of 07-08, that way if he has an off game we will be more apt to still win.

Grieco started 6 games and had a Save percentage of .884, but with some more oppurtunity, and another year under his belt, I think he can (and will be) more prepared for 08-09. I think if we can get Grieco to start maybe 10 games or so, that will put us in a good situation, because we will still have a winning record under Grieco anyways, so we won't lose much by playing him more...we'll only gain some for the following season.

    What do you think?

I agree. He hasn't proven himself but if he is the guy for the future you have to give him some reps.

  8. They are going to run into a buffalo buzz saw that is four lines deep. They will be under attack at all times.

If Neil touches one of the Buffalo Skilled players I predict a Blood Bath. Lindy will not put up with it.

I'll admit that I picked Ottawa to win it all last year and they let me down but this year they are firing on all cylinders. Goaltending hasn't let them down yet, Defensivley they are strong Preissing,Redden, Phillips and offensively they are Big, Strong and Fast.

    Should be a good series.

  9. And played 46 games in the AHL before he made the NHL for good.

But lets talk about players who were drafted before Lee in 2005, excluding Crosby because he's Crosby and Carey Price because he's a goalie.

#2 pick Bobby Ryan - 27 AHL games, 0 NHL games.

#3 pick Jack Johnson - Played five games for the Kings this year

#4 pick Benoit Pouliot - 69 AHL games, 3 NHL games.

#6 pick Gilbert Brule - 0 AHL games, 84 NHL games

#7 pick Jack Skille - Played three games in the AHL this year

    #8 pick Devin Setoguchi - 0 AHL, 0 NHL

So other than Crosby, only Gilbert Brule has shown that he is in the NHL to stay.

    ------------------

Now lets look at players who were drafted #9 overall

2000 - Brent Krahn - Goalie, yet to play in NHL

2001 - Tuomo Ruutu - Played two years in Finland before playing for the Blackhawks

2002 - Pierre-Marc Bouchard - Played a year Chicoutimi before joining the Wild.

2003 - Dion Phaneuf - Played two years for Red Deer before joining the Flames

    2004 - Ladislav Smid - 71 AHL games

2006 - James Sheppard - Played for Cape Breton this year

Seems pretty 50/50 to me. Just because you are a #9 pick doesn't mean you'll step right into the NHL. What do I know though?

    -----------------------

How about all D-men drafted #9 or earlier from 2000-2004.

    2000

    #4 Rostislav Klesla - 0 AHL games

#5 Lars Jonsson - 70 AHL games. Played in Sweden until this year

    2001

    #7 Mike Komisarek - 74 AHL games

    2002

    #3 Jay Bouwmeester - 2 AHL games

#4 Joni Pitkanen - Only in the AHL during the lockout

    #5 Ryan Whitney - 29 AHL games

    2003

#7 Ryan Suter - Only in the AHL during the lockout

    #8 Braydon Coburn - 109 AHL games

    #9 Dion Phanuef

    2004

    #3 Cam Barker - 40 AHL games

    #9 Ladislav Smid

Klesla, Bouwmeester, Pitkanen, Phanuef and Suter made the NHL pretty much immediately, though you could argue Pitkanen, Phanuef and Suter may not have if not for the lockout. Jonsson, Komisarek, Whitney, Coburn, Barker and Smid had to play in the AHL before making it to the NHL. So once again about 50/50.

Just because you're drafted high doesn't mean you'll be great and to assume that is what it should mean is foolish.

I'll give credit for the research. Atleast you can counter with somthing other than personal attacks, unlike most of the other posters on this site. I came off wrong. I meant to say that the Senators probably weren't hoping to have him work it out in the AHL after playing a few years in WCHA. He was drafted in 2005, they usually would like to have them in the NHL within about 2 years. I wasn't trying to say that playing in the AHL is bad, I was trying to make the point that for Lee to work it out for a few more years in AHL after the years in the WCHA is not what the team was hoping for. The players you named above probably started playing in the AHL a year after being drafted and played a year maybe two. They didn't play 3 years of college and then work it out for a few more in the AHL.

  10. No, stars in the NHL like Alexandre Daigle

So are you saying that not all high draft picks pan out? How does that refute my point that top ten picks are supposed to be impact players? If your already calling Lee a bust than thats fine but to say that the senators were hoping to get him into the NHL after a few years in the AHL is ridiculus. They thought he would be ready to step in by next year they don't usually waste #9 overall picks on players who are going to be seeing their first action when they are 26.

  11. Yeah, not only that but I guess Ottawa has no AHL affiiliate anymore..... :silly: You will never learn, will you?

#9 overall picks aren't supposed to play in the AHL. They are supposed to be stars in the NHL like the #9 that was drafted 2 years earlier Dion Phaneuf.

  12. um, maybe to Washington who drafted him in the FIRST ROUND. and Duncan was getting offers as stated in the article where he says that he is staying, not to mention he is a free-agent like JPar, so they would have really come after the draft. Why do you hang on the Sioux fan board when you clearly like none of our players and think that they all suck. I'm sorry that you disagree with my opinion, but I have met Joe and most of the guys and am always sad when any of them leave. think before you say things, because very few here actually agree with your idiotic posts.

Yea, I think all UND players suck. Thats why I said that 3 of them were "great" in the post you quoted.

My post was idiotic? I'm not the one who used the fact that Duncan was a free-agent to try prove he was getting offers. You could say that about anyone that wasn't drafted.

"The offers would have came after the draft": This was also a good quote, just curious when was the last time someone got an offer before the draft?

  13. is it bad that I haven't stopped smiling since we found out about Joe and can not wait for next year. If Toews doesn't sign, I may just go to completely worshipping the hockey gods.

Where was Finley going to go? I don't think he could make a single UHL or ECHL team, and it wasn't like teams were dangling boatloads of money at Duncan. Hes a great player but he wasn't generating much interest. People weren't really busting the door down for the other two either. Again both are great players but you act like they turned down 100 mill to come back to school.

  14. I just can't lay off this fool. I think I have a problem... :(

The top 8 scorers are highlighted. Of the younger players Tropp (MSU) is the leading scorer with 62 pts. While Malone has 33. The key difference is that Tropp plays on the PP alot more and has 23 more PP points. The USHL is a league of older players...

I guess that I'm still a little confused. This arguement started by me saying that malone is over-hyped. Which in your previous posts called his team "bad", and in your same post said that he isn't on the top line or power-play. But yet you still think he will be a good player next year for a good Division 1 team? Could you please explain your logic?

  15. Well, I've talked to some "NHL people" and they painted a brighter picture of Malone than you have. I think I'll take their word over yours any day. As far as Kozek goes, not only is he a world class athlete, but he is a world class person as well (as are his folks.) Something livestoplaywithhimself will never be.

Whats next TRIOUXPER are you going to try convince us that you sold his parents a radiator flush too?

  16. Eventually I will stop responding to the dumb a$$, but until I learn.

He is a 17 year old playing on a bad team in a league dominated by 19 and 20 year olds. As a result he doesn't play on a top line or PP much. When I was in High School I was a better player than 5 year old Jonathon Toews... :silly:

    Well actually probably not... :angry::silly:

You obviously know nothing about the USHL there are very few 20 with most players are 1988 birthdays meaning they could have only been 18 at the begining of the season. There are also alot more 1989 birthdays than 1987 birthdays.

I thought you were agreeing with me when you said this: "He is on a bad team... As a result he doesn't play on a top line or PP much." So hes not even on the top line of a in your opinion "bad" USHL team? But some guy on here says Malone could be a first liner next year for a "Good" division one college team?

  17. Live to play with himself you crack me up,Kozek is olaying a role he is not used to and playing hurt(off season surgery),Miller is basically a Freshman and I am sure you have never seen Malone play. Being a Sioux fan,if you really are you can be critical of plays but you really should support all the Sioux players not just the ones you deem worthy. I for one hope all the players come back and Finley and Lee even come back for their senior years.

I didn't know Kozek was playing hurt, but that explains his stride. Actually I have seen Sioux Falls play before and Malone was an average forward on his own team. He isn't better than Moreland (FM Jets), He isn't better than Lamaroux (Tri-city), He isn't better than Fisher (Sioux falls).

  18. thats absurd and a tad bit blasphemous as well(although that doesnt bother me really). i think that genoway isnt top line material yet. i think that the guy that competes for the top line spot is going to have to work his ace off to get there. i think forney(after healing up)or kozek have the best shot. or perhaps miller or watkins or malone, who i havent ever seen. i think that the DOT line was likely the last(and first?) line in sioux history that was an acronym.

Kozek will not be on the first line, his stride is painful to watch and he isn't good. Forney can be good but he will not be in there because he hasn't proven himself. Miller won't be on that line unless they are playing Quinnipiac because that the only way he is a factor. Malone is way over-hyped, (yea you heard it here first). Vandevelde is probably the best fit there because of his skill level.

    Potential Departures: Toews

    Hopeful Departures: Lee, Finley, Kozek.

  19. 1st, 3rd, 7th and 20th picks from last year's draft played in the WCHA this year. All of these guys are expected to be first liners and leaders on their respective teams. Hrkac, Smail, Eaves etc, where all utility players at the NHL level. Why was that? You can make all the excuses you want for them but the simple fact is that they played in a league that doesn't compare to today's WCHA. This league is at another level.

An old NHL goalie told me that he doesn't teach the position the way he played. It simply wouldn't work. He has to teach a completely different style. Sccoring on goalies who learned the position in the 70's and 80's is a heck of a lot easier than scoring on a butterfly goalie that knows how to move along the ice. There is no comparison. The equipment is only one aspect of it, knowing how to use that equipment is the key.

And finally, what was the speed of those pitches that the old Babe was hitting 400+ feet out of the park. Where they coming in at 100 mph. I'm going to guess that they weren't.

Well, actually Walter Johnson / Cy Young were said to have extremely high velocity on their pitches. Older historians say upper 90's would be a good estimate. Cy was before Ruth's time, and Johnson was shutting it down while Babe was still pitching.

You can also make arguements that the Wcha was very strong in those years, look at the NHL all stars that played college hockey in the 80's era. Brett Hull (UMD), Ed Belfour (UND), John Casey (UND), Chris Chelios (WISC), Neal Broten (Minn). These are only a few that I could think of off the top of my head.

  20. i agree with riders06 red river will go undefeated if they play as good as they should. they will have 2 of the best lines in the state with crary meland and schafer and vigen simonson and bancroft. they will be very good defensively as they will have both ladoucer and galbreath and will be anchored by arnason inbetween the pipes

23-4 with losses to Roseau who we can never compete with (9-1 my senior year) and 4-1 (last year) and they won't be in the same league as them this next year again, South who they will play 3-4 times, Grafton who they will play 3-4 times, and some soft team.
