  1. Is he seriously going to get to play for RR next year? Great message, when the going gets tough, just quit because the other high school coach in town will pick you up. Actually, RR probably cuts guys just as good as him every year. The only reason he looked pretty good is because he was on Central. Kind of like a decent looking girl hanging out with fat chicks to make her look even better than she is.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this has never happened.

  2. State Rankings

    1. Red River- they won, they are the top dogs.

    2. South- beat GPR 6-2

    3. GPR- They are coming around it appears, goaltending is still suspect.

    4. Devils Lake- Someone had to be here.

    5. North- Not as good as DL.

6.WF- The old realible WF, alot of very average players and one stud.

    7. Central- They just haven't played well this year

8.Jamestown- Wins over minot and Devils lake, still very unpredictable but my pick to win the west this year.

    9. Bismarck High- Hillman gives them a shot to win most of their games, not as skilled as past years.

10.Minot- Weakest they have been in a while.

    11.Shanely- Rebuilding year or three?

    12. Willeston- They would be in the play in game in the east.

    13. Bismarck Century- This team could easily be lower.

14.Dickenson- Not to far ahead of Whapeton, but they did beat them 4-3

15.Whapeton- This team might have an outside shot at a state tournament berth if they played in the west.

16.Bottineau- Not quite there, but better than past few years.

17.Mandan- Alot of players with very weak skills.

18.Hazen Buelah- Nothing needs to be said.

  3. Great game from the Coliseum tonight, both teams played pretty well but you all can see that RR is the better team. All three goals for RR were scored by sophomores. RR also had the better goaltender in Arnason. I have seen Deichert play in 5 games now and he hasn't been as impressive as people have talked him up to be. RR clearly had a lot of better scoring chances aswell. Good win for GFRR as they improve to 11-0 and FS drops to 8-4.

I wasn't at the game but I am finding some problems with this statement. You said RR got "better" goaltending and "better" scoring oppurtunities. Well to me if a team wins by one and has "better" scoring chances wouldn't the other team have to get equal or better goaltending to keep out those "better" scoring chances and keep it a one goal game?

  4. You better not try to argue this one, because you have no argument. The Big 10 is to the SEC what the WCHA is to the CCHA. No comparison. Penn State took care of Tennessee and Wisconsin took care of Arkansas, now all we need to complete the sweep is for Ohio State to knock off Florida. The SEC is the most overrated conference in D1 football, year in and year out. The Big 10 is easily the strongest conference in the nation.

    Big ten VS. SEC

Flordia Vs. Ohio State- Florida won big

LSU Vs. Michigan - LSU would roll just like USC did. J-Russel is a bus.

Arkansas Vs. Wisconsin- Wisc. takes this one

Auburn Vs. PSU- I take Auburn and their wins over LSU and Flordia in this one.

Tennesee Vs. Purdue- Tennesee would roll in this one.

Georgia Vs. Minnesota- Georgia and their D against a streaky Minnesota team.

Kentucky Vs. Indiana- Tucky in a close one.

South Carolina Vs. Iowa- Tough one too call as both teams are better than their record. I'll go Iowa with a healthy Drew Tate.

Alabama Vs. North Western- Bama would run it up in this one.

Ole Miss Vs. Michigan State- Schafer and Ellis are great for Ole Miss, but a healthy Stanton would be too much. Mich State in this one.

Miss State Vs. Illinois- Both teams are weak. I'll go toss up.

7-3-1 in favor of the SEC

  5. Very interesting. Does anyone know if he will be eligible to play varsity this season? Or will he have to wait until next year?

35-2 in favor of Red River. Just kidding. I think it will be a two goal game. I just don't know who's going to win.

I'm going against my alma mater I'll go 6-1 south.

  6. My mistake on Wurden and other's point totals, I was looking on the state leaders section and I obviously didn't realize that South had played more than 5 games. My bad. Meland is also currently at 27 points, as he netted 3 assists last nite. As for the whole Elite League thing, does Tyler Klein play any other sports in the summer? It is not surprising that Klein outscored him, Meland spent the entire summer playing legion baseball. Had he been playing hockey the whole time I'm sure his point totals would've been higher.

First three games of the year for GFRR: Shanley, Whapeton, and Crookston. It doesn't get much worse than that and the fact that they got all three at home is very lucky. Whapeton is usaully much worse on the road than at home where they can pull their gimmicks, Shanley may have less talent than whap, and Crookston just might be the worst team in minnesota. I expect others to catch up to Meland in points when their teams play these absolutly brutal teams. When he goes out and get 9 against whap 8 against shanley and 7 against Crookston his 27 doesn't look all that impressive to me.

  7. Point totals are not always an indicator of how well one plays. In most years if you are able to put up 30 points in the West, that probably correlates to around 15-20 points in the East. Besides, all point scoring is a function of how your team plays and the opportunities that they help you create. If you put one of Fargo South's top 4 point getters and put them on West Fargo, their scoring output will decrease because his opportunity to score will decrease. The same goes for if you put West Fargo's top player on Fargo South. He's going to get more points. My conclusion- points do not always provide a solid testimony to the strength of a players skill. Sometimes they do, but in North Dakota High School hockey, they can also be very deceiving.

I have to disagree, Look at the Norths, the west fargo's and the jamestowns of past years. These teams would have players that put 30+ points but if they were to have tried out for a team like south or Red River they may or may not have even made the team.

My point is 2nd or third line players on the RR or the Souths have less points than first line players on north or WF or James because those first line players play twice the minutes because they are on a poor team, even though they are weaker players than 2nd or third or even 4th line players on the top couple teams in the state.

So to say a player from north or Wf last year would have had more points if they had played on RR or South is a joke because I don't know is they would have even made RR or south.

I know this because we (RR) had players on 3rd and fourth lines that would have been starting for north wf james and all the weaker teams, and the case is the same this year.

  8. Don't disgrace DL by telling them they aren't worthy of being a top contender in the east. They may not be, but you are not the person to be telling them that.

DL is not a contender, they are a far cry from the RR's and the South's.

  9. Skill wise, the US may be better than Canada, but each of the guys on Canada knows how to play their roles, and are willing to do that. The interesting thing to see, which we probably won't see, would be to see how Canada would react if they were to get down early. We already know that the US abandons game plan and plays as individuals, but it would be interesting to see if Canada's boys were able to keep their composure if they were to get down. I expect the U.S. to be competitive for the first 2 periods, but the quick turnaround game will most likely play a big difference in this game. The US played as a team today, which is what they need to do tomorrow, regardless if Canada takes the early lead. Can't play selfish or dumb hockey at any point in order to have a chance at the win. Go USA!

I haven't heard of all of the players on Canada's roster but some of the guys that got cut would have been on team USA's top two lines. i.e Codi Burki, Ben Maxwell,Mathieu Perreault.

Goaltending: Advantage Canada: Frazee is sketchy at times, Price and Irving are much more realible.

Defense: Advantage Canada: I like the Johnson's and Chorney for US, but Canada is loaded back there.

Offense: Advantage Canada but closer than the other catagories: Muehler maybe the best forward in the tournament, Canada is much deeper than the US.

    I'm seeing a 7-5 type game tommorow.

  10. Devils Lake got it taken to them for most of the game, except from about 8 minutes left in the third to the last two minutes of the game. Jamestown was up 6-1 before that.

Jamestown is a wild card especcially at home, Officiating is usaully suspect. Jamestown is volitile just as in years past, They have the potential to skate with better teams and they have the potential to drop games to teams that they are better than like.

  11. According to the stats posted on Bob Gillens website, Dillon Kraft has 1 goal and 1 assist in 8 games. In the event those stats are incorrect and he actually does have 2 goals in 8 games, it would still be a very fortunate coincidence on Mr. Krafts behalf that he score a goal on the game he brings along his sharpie.

I'm glad we can all move on from this point now that we know the situation was handled by the coach.

    What did the coach do?

Lets face it this kid probably carried the sharpie all year, just like a true tool would do.

  12. Would that person be effectively fired, Sioux-cia, because of said illness? Absolutely not. And Lucia would absolutely not kick Hirsch off the team if this was due to his mental health. That's the point I was trying to make. You dont get fired because you have a (mental) illness. What would happen if someone went into their job and got fired because they had, say, schizophrenia. The company would probably do everything they could to help this employee recover, and eventually let them return to their job. You get fired when you become a detrement to the team/company. And this is clearly what happened with Hirsch.

I completly agree, people don't get kicked off teams for having a mental illness. If this was the case the team/university would have handled the situation differenlty.

  13. Watch out the Spoilers have ran off 8 wins in a row now since starting the year with 2 losses....lol. Just curious what everyone's thought is of them now. I know they really haven't played anyone powerful except South and Warroad but still impressive I think to start with 2 losses then run off 8. Do they have a good chance of beating Red River?

I think Warroad is down this year so that win isn't that impressive.

  14. I agree that point totals do not always indicate a players skill level. You're indication about the point totals in the west not corrolating to point totals from the east is also fair but you must also look at the team mates one has. It is a lot easier to produce when you have a strong line. The Herbel kid from Bottineau is doing this without the benefit of alot of talent around him. Why is it so hard for everyone to believe that the West can produce a quality hockey player. This kid is as fast as anyone in the state and has alot of skill and hockey sense.

    Date Opponent W/L BHS OPP

11-27 at Rivers Collegiate W 8 2 Where is this back woods college at? Bottineau pumps 3 in against Century's JV and rips in 8 on these guys?

    12-1 Williston L 1 4

    12-2 Jamestown L 2 7

12-8 at Bis. Century JV W 3 2 I bet Century's JV team is really good, I mean their varsity has won all of 2 games this year.

    12-9 at Bismarck High L 3 4

    12-15 at Hazen-Beulah W 4 1

    12-16 at Dickinson L 2 3

12-27 vs Bienfait W 8 2 Wow I'd love to see this team play, Whap could probably wax these dandys.

12-28 vs Central Butte W 6 2 Another worthy opponent.

I thought Whap. had a weak non conference schedule but this is absurd. Seriously, I can't respect this team or any of the players when they don't respect themselves.

  15. So calling Hazen one of the worst teams in the state, and making an entire post out of it is supposed to be funny? Right after the mentor of their program passes away? Okay...

    I'm laughing...

I thought about apoligizing for writing that post, and then I thought about it for a minute or so and came up with this. . . A. Every bit of it was true, can't apoligize for those teams being bad B. If you thought it had to do with Gustafson than your a idiot and I can't apoligize for that, C. The post wasn't exclusivly about hazen anyway, so I can't apoligize for singling out hazen D. I know you agree with every word I said, so I can't apoligize for that.

  16. It is good that you are not defending who I think you are talking about. Not sure how well the 1st Amendment applies here because this is a private site and the moderators can remove posts, which they have done on a number of occasions. In addition, individual members can be removed as well. A number of hockey sites have done that in the past. So, you are incorrect in saying that "nobody can really do anything about it if he wants to form his own opinions and write them on this website." If a moderator deems a post to be offensive it can (and has) been taken down.

First of all you would have to be a complete tool to be offended by somthing you read in a chat room. If your offended by me saying Shanley Whapeton and Hazen are the three worst teams in the state then you are very easily offended. And also offended by a true statement.

If we go by what your saying we should list scores like this (North-6) only include the winning team as opposed to the old and maybe offensive way of (North-6 over Grafton-5) because some of the Grafton kids/parents/fans maybe offended by us posting them losing a game.

  17. Whats everyone's thought on Chad Demers? He seems to be doing all right...I wonder if anyone is looking at him yet...

He is an average player on an average team.

Since when does grafton play Kitteson Central? I think he lit it up against those dandys. I hear NHL Central Scouting is looking at him pretty closely, I actually heard someone say he got a couple looks at the World Junior team.
