  1. I have it on good authority that UND will have a nickname, but it won't be for a year or two. The revenue to be gained by having a nickname to market is to big to ignore.

Sure, why the hell not. This isn't about the students, alumni, whatever. It's about the Benjamins. Pathetic.

  2. I'd be shocked if the ncaa does not require a replacement nickname as part of their legal agreement. The reasons that the ncaa would require a new nickname are too obvious that it does not require elaboration. Not changing the nickname, that simply would not be acceptable by the ncaa.

Be shocked. The agreement states nothing about having no nickname.

  3. UND could choose its new nickname to be no nickname. I believe that is within the spirit of the agreement. The athletic dept, however, is foaming at the mouth because they believe this is an "opportunity" to make money from the sale of new merchandise "featuring" a new logo and nickname. Because, you know, it's all about the Benjamins.

  4. Steve is obviously a successful coach and mentor, and was a great player for the Sioux. When Blais departed and the applicant pool was being assembled, I recall comments suggesting some applicants did not qualify because UND required some coaches to have degrees, or even advanced degrees. Not sure if that is accurate, or just speculation.

  5. If this was posted somewhere, I apologize. I just saw it now on line. Looks like the young 'uns need to study a little more. Article says we are number one in not studying.

UND was named on the best 376 colleges listing (the only ND school on the listing), and on the best midwestern colleges listing (along with Jamestown and Mayville).

The Inforum headline should have read: "UND, Mayville, and Jamestown College Named Premier Schools in State"

  6. I'll give you two reasons:

    1. It provides "private entity" cover to the North Dakota folks, so they don't have to worry about open meeting laws. Think of it like ORU attending Summit meetings and not having to publish those minutes.

    2. REA is mentioned specifically in the settlement agreement. Seeing how that agreement spells out multi-million dollar changes to their building you'd think they'd at least be able to sit in.

    Good points.

  7. This is turning out to be a circus. Why so many people going? In any negotiations you don't bring 10 people to the table. If they were serious they'd pick 2 or 3 of there best people and sent them to see if there's room to move the ball forward. This is all about trust. This mix of people don't trust each other and that's why I think we have all these clowns going.

Very common to bring along "back benchers" when the discussion may head in multiple directions, and those at the center of the meeting may need clarification or expert witness regarding an issue.

  8. Why was Carlson's FOIA request sent to Kelley and not the SBoHE? Kelley works for the SBoHE. Is this another poke in the eye of SBoHE?

Why does he request the correspondence between UND and ANY athletic conference since January 1st? Is he afraid UND is possibly talking to someone else? Another conference that he can submarine UND's chances with? If he meant WCHA, why not just say BIg Sky and WCHA?

And what is with the tone of the letter, waive any costs for providing the information and I want it immediately or tell me why I can't have it immediately?

This is another Carlson power trip.

Edit: He wanted them immediately... Power Trip.

    Ummm... that's standard FOIA language.

  9. Unfortunately everything that he says is true. Without UND athletics GF is a non destination for alumni and a lot of other folks. I was born and raised there and rarely go back, but when I do it is to attend a sporting event and visit family graves. UND is really the only major asset that GF has and this issue has already hurt the university, AND it will get worse. Wouldn't it be refreshing to wake up some morning and see this issue gone and then move on with all the positive things that can come from the BSC and D1 athletics without this millstone? I look forward to that day when the UND administration can focus on building a better univesity and community.

I may have missed or misinterpreted something, but has the NC$$ requested opponents to stop scheduling UND unless the FS name is dropped, as the article suggests? I thought the agreement indicated UND could ultimately keep the FS name, but if so, could not host or use the FS name in post season play? That's different then what the article suggests. UMN and UW (also Iowa, Big Ten?) have an independent agreement not to schedule non-conference native named teams (that, however, doesn't apply to those teams that have been blessed by the NC$$, i.e. Seminoles, Utes, Chippewas). Maybe Indianapolis has reached out to the conferences and UND's historical opponents and strong-armed them. That would muddy the issues.

  10. How about the "Lakers", after our closest dear friends. Answers the mail... appeases the NC$$ and keeps ties to the American Indian community. Meets the NCAA rule for closest tribe approval.

  11. The "suspect" drives a tan Mitsubishi and lives 80 miles from work... no wonder he's pissing vinegar all the time. I wonder how his employer, Fox TV, is taking his new found celebrity? They can't be happy that they have an employee interviewed/suspected of threatening a public official.

Interesting how the "suspect" failed to mention his 2007 DUI conviction in ND... add lying to a sworn officer to his offenses.

Also read that his Minnesota Driver's License was 3 pages long... another impressive stat.

    Fine gentleman indeed.

  12. Taken Alive is grasping at very weak substance to support the retirement/death of Fighting Sioux... the discredit/smear campaign against the 1969 participants should be embarrassing to every SR member.
