Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that the self isolation protocol that we are undergoing was to help the medical system withstand the influx of care requiring patents and not to "save millions of lives".   Lives are going to be lost, seems like starting the economy after the medical system ramps up would help prevent the cure from being worse than the illness...   Doesn't really matter to me, I work in the oilfield, round 9 of the sky is falling well underway.  Didn't not foresee offering to trade Sioux jerseys for TP, but here we are...

That is the strategy but our medical system has not ramped up enough to withstand the influx of patients.  Hospitals are running out of ventilators, PPE, and other materials in each of the hot spots and it's only getting worse because the Trump admin has completely botched the response.   Our president is a man of low capability who's mainly gotten through life by lying and bullshitting people and those aren't qualities that are going to help address this pandemic.

As I advanced in my career, one of the greatest blind spots I’ve observed in many talented people is their inability to appreciate the fact that they dont know what they don’t know or they assume that they have the same basis in data or understanding as others in the room.  It applies to both IQ and EQ facets.  To me it’s the biggest hurdle for people trying to get the executive suite.  It’s painfully obvious that it applies to the body politic in spades and half of that body having no actual talent.

This is one of the most nonsensical paragraphs I've ever read.

Let me start by admitting I’m not a Trump fan but that doesn’t mean I would support people continuing to regurgitate misinformation.  Nobody knows what would happen if testing was available earlier. If you do the minimum research, you would learn that the WHO did not offer nor did the US refuse test kits. A laboratory in Germany and the CDC both developed the first test kits on January 21. No one new that production of the test kits in the US would be complicated and slowed by problems with a reagent used in these tests. The other problem was that on February 4 the head of Health and Human Services declared a “public health emergency “.  That meant that capable labs across the country were prohibited by legislation passed in 2009, to produce test kits. That meant those labs had to petition the FDA to get permission to produce test kits. One of the labs in Wadsworth,NY received permission on February 28.  Other labs also received permission. His mistake was the early comments understating the seriousness of this disease and later overstating our ability to test. Trump did not fire “everyone with experience handling this”. He did close down the National Security Council’s office assigned responsibility for “Pandemics/“Bioterrorism”.  There are many who worked there who felt then, and now, that was a mistake. There was also a recent article where a former Obama administration official stated that Trump closed the office, but he consolidated those responsibilities to another office in a move consolidating 3 departments in order to decrease costs and improve efficiency.  I couldn’t verify that article about consolidation nor if true if they are effective. Having said that the CDC has the personnel with the training and experience to deal with this. To criticize and insult  those who disagree with your opinions is exactly what helped Trump get elected in the first place.
We tested a patient yesterday. Where do you live where you don’t think you can be tested.  If you mean you can’t get tested because you are “afraid” but have no symptoms or exposure, that is because routine testing for asymptomatic patients with no known risks is not medically indicated.
We will get through this better if people put their politics aside and wait to point fingers and blame until we get through this.

If a person presents with symptoms and is negative for the flu and other diseases can they be tested for Covid19?  Can nurses, doctors, EMT's and other personnel who are exposed to Covid19 be tested?  They absolutely cannot in most metropolitan areas and absolutely cannot be tested in the state of Minnesota per the Minnesota Department of Health's statement in the Star tribune today.   That's unacceptable.

Also I call BS on your statement that insulting people who disagree with your opinions is what led to Trump's election.  Insulting his political opponents is all that he does as evidenced by him going after the Democratic Governor's of Michigan, Illinois, and Washington for defying him politically.  If he'd devoted one-tenth of his attention to this epidemic as he does to insulting people on Twitter and at his hate rally's we wouldn't be in this place.

When a reporter asked trump to rate himself on a 1 to 10 scale for how he is handling this I wish he would have said please rate how you have reported on this in a non biased way

Also Biden said he would have had a much better team handling this.

most of this team were with Obama too since they are career government employees

We wouldn't have this lockdown situation if the country would have had access to testing earlier and had testing readily available.  We didn't have access to testing and do not have access to testing now because Trump declined the WHO's test. He declined the tests because he figured positive tests would be bad for his re-election.  He also fired most of the people with experience handling something like this in 2018 and hampered the work of those left behind.

You can try and blame this on the media all you want but we're here because this administration is incompetent and criminally corrupt and you're not going to get 60% of this country to turn a blind eye to it just because you have.

Folks, we are going nowhere with offensive line play like we saw tonight.  Hopefully tonight, was just a "bad night", and I know there are some young guys playing and some veterans hurt, but I'm not so sure it was wise to have all the hogs slim down.  I can't remember a game where we had so many negative rushing plays.

Special teams also continue to be a liability.  Short kickoffs, missed XP's, and that aweful non-fair catch in the 4th quarter, really put this team in tough spots against Sam Houston.

Get to work, get healthy, and get better!

That's what's so frustrating... you have the entire OL lose weight but then you have your starting RB (Johannesson) get too heavy to effectively play the position.  At this point, it's nearly impossible not to question what's going on with this program and what type of messaging the players are hearing from this coaching staff.

You bring up good points. Mertens wasn’t very good his senior season, though, in 2009. In fact, NDSU only went 3-8 that season. Everything fell into place when QB Jensen started playing for NDSU during the 2010 season. Their foundation was built that 2010 season. They’ve been rolling ever since.

Some of the Twin Cities kids that definitely should’ve been at the University of Minnesota and not NDSU (blame Brewster) included CB Marcus Williams, OL Billy Turner, RB John Crockett, WR Zach Vraa (unbelievably Minnesota’s Mr. Football in 2009 and Brewster passed), and LB Grant Olson. A lot of talent in that intial group.

John Crockett was a bit different of a situation: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thedickinsonpress.com/sports/1817997-bison-rb-john-crockett-ready-prove-himself-after-2-years-academic-setbacks%3famp

Their ascendance is a perfect example of fortune favoring the bold.   UND, USD, and the rest of the NCC other than SDSU basically decided to de-emphasize their football programs by staying Division II when the SU's left. At the same time Nebraska eliminated their walk-on program and shortly thereafter UNO dropped football entirely, opening up a new recruiting area for SDSU/ NDSU which has provided key players on the last few championships (Stick).   All this while University of Minnesota's football program has gone through a decade of nearly constant coaching turnover (Mason/ Brewster/ Kill/Claeys/ Fleck) that continues to this day.

It wasn't an issue of NDSU taking recruits "from" Brewster since he didn't recruit them as he as busy trying to pull 4 and 5 stars from Texas. There were a few players at NDSU who should have had full rides to Minnesota offered and many others who could have easily played for his Minnesota teams.

If Brewster doesn't have a ring or two from NDSU it is at worst criminal and at the very least not very neighborly like.

Still can't believe Brewster blocked me on twitter.

To be fair to Brewster, you can't hold Crocket and Williams against him.  Both were non-qualifiers and thus ineligible to play Big Ten Football.  To NDSU's credit they've done as well as anyone in the country in working with kids who are non-qualifiers to get them eligible and on the practice field after the period they are forced to sit out.

So you are accusing them of taking the money? I don't think anyone has shown that one nickel has left campus.

They need to open up the books and provide a full accounting.  REA and McGarry have been proven liars through their own public statements, so they should no longer be given the benefit of the doubt that they are properly stewarding the money entrusted to them.

  10. It's impossible to read this thread and not get sick to my stomach thinking about what an additional $400K-$500K of revenue each year would have meant to the football program over the last 15 years in terms of salaries, improvements, scholarships, etc.  To argue that it wouldn't is entirely asinine.   Kris McGarry and the REA foundation are leeches and crooks.  She's never made an honest buck in her life and her sense of entitlement to the revenues generated by UND athletics is astounding.

I think we should drug test every day so that nobody can ever eat poppy seeds.

I think we should legalize all drugs and drug test every single American every day and publish the results.   That way we can know who's fun to party with and who's just a hypocritical asshole.

Would you support drug testing of the hockey team as vigorously as drug testing of the football team?  The drug use rates in collegiate/ NHL hockey is astronomical and it's a lot harder stuff than marijuana.

You mean the terrorism watchlist which has no oversight and a very vague and mysterious process to remove your name when it mistakingly shows up on it? That one?

Were you special ops? Because standard infantry does not use suppressors...or do they call them silencers.

You think it is okay for the government to have fully automatics with 30 round magazines, but I can't have a semi auto with 30 round mags? Because history definitely tells us that governments are ALWAYS to be trusted. The second amendment was not designed for hunting rights. It was designed to protect us if the day ever comes that our government is acting in treasonous ways.

I still think you are a turd for trying to blame the Vegas shooting on the NRA. I'm done here and I will disagree with you until I go to my grave. Good day.

This is going to be my last post on this because we're de-railing the thread but the government can fire a stinger missile at you with a flying robot.   You're not going to stand much of a chance with a 30 round magazine and a semi-automatic rifle.

Kids using any chemicals (including alcohol)at a young age leads to far higher rates of addiction.  We all know guys who are not'addicted' to pot but need to wake and bake to get going every morning.

I don't have the same background your wife has but having grown up with an extended family of addicts of all types of persuasion, I will say that there are far more destructive legal addictions.  We all need to honestly assess if we have that genetic pre-disposition to addiction and be vigilant in our personal lives to make sure we don't succumb to it.

It leads to other stuff, just as it has on this team.

It actually doesn't.  What leads to other stuff is when you're doctor prescribes you a 30 day prescription of OxyContin after your knee or rotator cuff surgery with a re-fill and two months later you're going through withdrawals so bad getting off the stuff that you start buying pills from others.  That's the real drug problem is this country.  It isn't pot-smokers.

You are part of the problem.  Do you think it helps the team that many spend every night baked?

There are plenty of athletes who are able to use marijuana and perform at a high level.  There is even scientific evidence that it can help heal the effect of head trauma.  If they are using enough to impact their performance on the field then that's another problem,  but it's no different than if any other distraction is impacting their performance (alcohol, crazy girlfriends, video games, etc.).

Yeah, selling drugs to minors.  Hang'em.  It would stop in a hurry.  Talk to any law enforcement obout the drug problem.  It is booming, especially in MS and HS.

Do we really care if high schoolers are smoking marijuana?  Of all the things that high schoolers get into, that's probably the least of our worries.

So you are saying the scales and baggies are made up?  Unless those two factors are made up, I don't care.  They are done.

I'm going to be frank with you.  I don't think possessing either is that big a deal.  From all appearances they are at worst small time dealers making some extra bucks on the side.  They aren't the cartel and it's long past time we stopped ruining peoples futures for a plant that's legal for nearly half of the population.

  20. 58 minutes ago, cberkas said:

I could see the Fed's getting involved more into these intent to distribute cases. These guys get the marijuana mailed to them from places where its legal to buy, like Nevada. Even local narcotics task forces could screen and x-ray packages from states that legalize marijuana, if they find marijuana in the package let it get delivered then get a search warrant.

They are both done, scales and baggies with residue on and in them, you can't get much dumber. If you really have to deal drugs for some dumb reason don't get caught like your teammate did.

I would hope federal law enforcement has better !@#$ to do.

God bless America... A person can purchase the tools to shoot and maim nearly 600 people in 15 minutes but can't buy or sell a plant they intend to smoke in their own home.

  21. I'm not going to defend anyone on this football team's performance to this points, as it's clear that a lot of these guys aren't focused on football.  That being said, I'm not going to be surprised when a few months pass by and these two plead to misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges.  The GFPD is notorious for overcharging and some of their drug possession charges have been largely fictional.  It's ridiculous as they make this crap up for the newspapers and two months later when the charges are pled down significantly or dropped altogether it isn't mentioned anywhere.  If you go back and look at the last few drug arrests with the program and how they ultimately ended up, you'll see that the GFPD has been less than forthright.

I wanted to touch on this a little, but after O'Brien went down and Poole did his thing, it was basically down to Rodgers and Larson (at ILB), I don't know how this wasn't addressed.

He's missing on too many recruits.  He has far too many players leave after one or two seasons.  It's a sign that the staff is not evaluating talent appropriately.

Also, I'm going to get ripped for this but Poole's situation could have been handled differently.  I'm sorry but every football team in the country has players that occasionally smoke marijuana.  Hell it's legal in his home state.  It's a football team not the church choir.
