All goes back to Bubba. He’s supposed to have this team prepared.
I think this all goes back to Chaves - Bubba is always going to be Bubba - he is incapable of change. But the administration thought they would reward him after a 5-6 season so now we can't afford a buy out.

This season's test to see if Bubba can actually get it done. I'm very surprised he couldn't build off of the momentum of the Bison game and we seemed to go backwards. Time to right the ship.

UND is beating Murray. Lets not question this.
Because Bubba built on the excitement following the Bison victory and has a great road game record?

Ah yes your couple hundred dollars isn’t going to help one bit. We don’t have the money to fire him so you might as well quit beating a dead horse…..
The last two games are Danny’s fault, he is the leader of the offense and it hasn’t been clicking on any cylinders. Play calling was aweful…… how is that on Bubba?
Hmm - Bubba's hire and he has Bubba's confidence and is coaching under Bubba's guidance and systems. And not being able to buy out Bubba is directly on Chaves and his idea to renew him after a 5-6 season.

I would prefer "get your team ready for the game and make good gametimes decisions Bubba" to "Dancing Bubba" but it doesn't seem like we get a choice in the matter.

It's starting to look like this is our real team and the one that beat the Bison was just an anomaly.

I already know what Bubba will say on the presser. Somehing like......"I thought we had a good week of practice and we're focused, we just didn't execute that well and the other team made some big plays.
But hey - we're gonna still be day by day.

Sadly part of me is wondering if it's better to lose, because we definitely will not beat USD and we will be 7-5 and out of the playoffs. Maybe that would force some change? Although could force a contract extension too. Our ceiling this year is winning one home playoff game IF we get that far. Same sh*t different year.
You can thank Chaves for our coaching predicament - he thought that 5-6 Bubba (after pissing away the Bison game) deserved an extension before his contract was up. Absolutely no demand for excellence from the administration.

It's just amazing what Bubba has done with the momentum from our victory over the Bison. So far 3 of the worst halves of football I have seen in a long time.

Any chatter from Gopher fans about the officiating last night? I think we had 6 power plays to their 2. Lots of tripping calls made. I do know the Gophers got away with a hook on Blake during a second period UND power play that would’ve given us a 5 on 3. It was so obvious too and right in front of the ref. Stick up high around Blake’s neck area as he was marching toward the net with the puck.
Even with the penalty difference I felt the refs were horrible. The tripping call for example. Most of their misses occurred right in front of them.

As we have all year, I expect we will play well at home, and I hope we have our full compliment of fans tailgating to support them. We will certainly be there. We do, however, need to learn from these very very bad road losses. One, the coaches need to have the team prepared and ready to play on the road. That has clearly not happened. 2, if something isn’t working, adjustments have to be made. Teams stack the line of scrimmage , as every team should do if they watch film on us, there has to be adjustment to stretch the field. If Tommy can’t do that, we have the deepest quarterback roster we’ve had in years. We have a very good stable of wide receivers, including a proven Transfer portal deep threat. Use them. If we are struggling with pass protection on the line, don’t go with an empty backfield, and not provide any protection for the quarterback. Adapt To the situation and don’t just play the game plan that you thought you were going to play whether it works or not. Recognize and adjust. Clinging to a game plan stubbornly when it is clearly, not being successful is not a Sign of coaching, prowess. Recognition and adaptation, are what separates poor coaches from the great ones. That to me has been our biggest failure from a coaching staff. If it works, great. If it doesn’t work, do something different. Make a change.
I think Bubba is very resistant (and almost incapable) of change. We've had a 10 year sample of his work. Everyone seems to understand this except one person - Our AD who thought it was a great idea to extend Bubba after his fantastic 5-6 season (where he pissed away a chance to beat the Bison). Now we're stuck.

Bubba deserves all the criticism and more today

If he can only get to 5-6 he would get another extension.

It's been a long time since I have seen our lines bully the Bison - but we definitely saw that today. Great execution. Well done. Keep up the good work.

Claimed a "9-0 against NDSU" but the only such run I find was in 1937-39.1953-1964

If it works it is a gutsy call by the coach. If it fails than the Fan's hold it against the coach for 2+ years.
The big factor in the heartburn is the pathetic execution - even after we knew they smelled it out we fumbled around a bit then ran it.

Some absolute snipes in this game. I hope this continues because when things weren't going well it seemed all of our shots in some games were center mass on the goalie. If we can shoot like this it will be a good year.

I thought if the fans demanded excellence, then we would get excellence. And if the fans settle for mediocre, we would get mediocre.
Actually, I think it is more if the administration demands excellence - fans had nothing to do with renewing a 5-6 coach before his contract was up.

The thing we really have no clue about at this point (or even part way into the season) is on-ice chemistry. I don't think the importance of that is often exaggerated.

Very good point. Who the hell in Admin thought he was the guy to take over this program. "The Monopoly is Over"!!
Exactly this - and this is after 6 years of Muss. At this point Bubba's gonna Bubba. We are recruiting better but the same old deer in the headlights look in big games. He is not changing. By contrast, the school to the south got rid of Bob Babich when he was 46-22 after a bad year and because of a poor playoff record and the inability to beat their biggest rival (sound familiar?). Not only did we hire a 22-21 coach, we extended him after a 5-6 season. Absolutely no commitment to a winning program from the administration. - And before I get jumped on, I am not saying they don't want to win - we all do from admin on down. I am saying they are not willing to do what it takes for the next step - instead it's just "I hope this year things will be better". Change is glacial here.

When 5-6 gets you an extension it's not like the bar is very high. We are here because successive AD's and Presidents set that bar. We knew exactly what we were getting with Bubba - he was 22-21 at Duluth and we knew exactly what we were getting when we renewed him. Until we get an administration that insists on excellence here we will stay. And I am absolutely stunned that not only couldn't we build on the Bison victory but we have actually regressed.
