Speaking of NIL money.  Are there guidelines for this or is it just a legal way to pay players unlike SMU in the 80s?

I think the SMU guys pale in comparison to the amounts I'm hearing some of our favorite Gofers are receiving.  Don't know if I 100% believe it; the amounts are ridiculous.   These payouts a matter of public record?

Last place anyone would look for him.

GFPD should have him on a short list if the Ralph ever gets vandalized.

Uh oh, MacDonald has been talking to Blake?...

Will he wear No. 7 at UND like Jandric and Pyke?

"I'm not too sure yet," said MacDonald, who wore No. 9 at Alaska. "I'll have to talk to the coaches and see what's available."

Oh man, I hear the "Canadian argument" from Minny fans still today, all the time. It's the dumbest thing ever to argue why one team is better than the other.

Your logic is undeniable. Consider Wood a new add ;)

Did they forget that one of their icons, Lou Nanne, is from the great white North?  Hosers.

With the Pod system next year in the league and playing teams 4 times even less, winning the league title will be more determined on the strength of your POD any given year, so UND should be more focused on just building their game throughout the year.

Probably a good thing for Western, Omaha and Miami that they are in the same pod, as Omaha and Western lose a lot, and Miami… is Miami.  Denver’s pod with Arizona & CC could be good, but traditionally ours will be toughest with Duluth and St. Cloud.

Hopefully that will sharpen us a little better, and we might not have to play CC and Omaha, so we can have a better record.  Think Duluth will be more skilled, but young, and St. Cloud will have to replace studs on defense, and not sure if Veeti Miettinen is back or not.

I won’t be sad if this means we won’t have to always play Omaha the last weekend, because I liked it when who you played was a crapshoot.

Will be different for sure, and to me with even less interaction between top teams, kind of takes away from the league title.  I can see a perceived weaker pod like the Omaha one next year still in the running for high league or home ice finish if they can really take advantage and beat up on there pod and play average hockey beyond that.

I tell you right now, I'm not excited about the prospect of playing DU only twice during the regular season.  Usually they're a pretty good guage as to where we stand in the league/nationally.  Plus it gives their 20 fans a chance to see the team in green up close and personal.

So, how does the NIL work in regards to recruiting for someone like Wood or Pohlkamp?  Obviously the coaches would have to let the collective know who they are interested in, so is it then up to the collective to offer the athlete, or do they then work through the coaches?

yeah, I'm guessing this has all been worked out way in advance. #Sandy'spissed

Name one good thing that has happened for this program over the past month. And the Penrose Cup was in February, so you can't count that. Just saying.

Well, I think it has brought all of us at SiouxSports a lot closer.  :glare:  Nah!

I would look to Perron to take a big jump from FR / SO year.

Disappointing news about Blake, I was convinced he would be back. Kind of shocked actually.

Yeah, I really think he’d benefit from one more year of development at this level.

Normally, after UND is eliminated, I cheer for a team that hasn't won a Natty, or is the furthest removed from their previous Natty.  In this case, that happens to be Michigan (1998).  A little less than ideal to cheer for them, but that definitely is a long drought.  As much as it would be nice for NCHC bragging rights, I don't think I can be happy with Denver getting yet another one.  Yikes.  Maybe since BC and BU have been the #1 and #2 teams all year, having them play for the championship in one final battle for ultimate bragging rights is what's best for 2024.

As for the location, St. Paul is about as about as far removed from any of the remaining schools' campuses.  Michigan will probably bring a contingent, but not sure about the other schools.  Probably will be a rink full (hopefully) of college hockey fans from all bases, with a decidedly upper Midwest flair.  Would have been more fun with Nodak, Minny, and Wisco to create some old school Final Five magic.

I'll be there with 6 former UND alums and one BC alum.  Guessing he will probably be the only happy one by the end of the weekend.

Maybe we are losing with philosophy less than losing the recruiting battles.  If you aren't as talented, I would argue you would lose more during the regular season as well.  I think it is a mindset, and getting the players to perform on the big stage that is the issue.  Maybe we are losing the battle of recruiting guys that refuse to lose.  I know Carle has said he likes to recruit guys that have a pedigree of winning.  Obviously UND has guys with that same pedigree, but maybe they need someone else to look at what they are doing in the postseason.  I know Hakstol wasn't too proud and asked Gasparini's advice to try get over the hump.  I would hope Berry would be open to some constructive criticism from a few mentors as well.

You mean like some of the experts on this board?

Seriously though, many pro teams have a sports psychologist. If we are trying to be a pro team with all our amenities it would make sense to have a sports psychologist. Maybe even share them across the other non-hockey sports :silly:

    Maybe get this guy’s dad…

While I can enjoy this as much as anyone here…really sucks we’re relegated to celebrating other teams losing, especially Gofers only winning one game in the tourney after back to back frozen fours and a championship appearance - while we’ve continued the losing streak or not even making it. I don’t think I’ll be getting in their face anytime soon about Motzko not getting it done, at least until Brad can prove he can win any games again in March or April.

You’re not wrong.  I’m just glad that I won’t be surrounded by screaming Gofer fans at the Frozen Four.
