  1. Well, there is this building on campus that makes me wanna "ralph"....and, well, you get the picture.
  2. Believe it or not, the rest of the world doesn't give a "rip" about mascots, and if it wasn't for one millionaire, UND would have been well on its way to burying this one. If you want to state facts, also remember that a majority of the Native Programs on campus are against the use of the mascot, not to mention the Sioux tribes....in ND and in SD, are against "UND's Hostile and Abusive" logo.
  3. What I don't get is if you are so passionate about this, why didn't "you" ask how UND is "hostile and abusive"....for some reason those who love the name so much are alway quiet to voice an opinion, unless it's from a "safe" place, like the confides of siouxsports.com, or unless its w/ 20 people backing you up, which I have never backed down to either. I don't know, but it sounds pretty cowardly to me, not "sioux"-like at all.
  4. I was wondering if anyone knew why UND decided to wear black jerseys at SCSU? Maybe this is old news, hell I don't even know if this game took place yet or not (but I've been getting a few emails about this), but if there was some clarification to this, I'd appreciate it. Also, has anyone heard that UND might also wear these jerseys playing the gophers (in MN)? I honestly don't think it would help, thought, after seeing them get spanked this weekend, sheesh..
  5. 2.8? Hell, ANY color skin won't get you in with that gpa. Why do you insist that just because we are natives we automatically have lower grades than YOU? These comments are the ignorance we face everyday, even by people who don't know they are offending someone. If you think its really this easy, go up to INMED and have a chat w/ the director, I'm sure he will set you straight. As for INMED itself, if it didn't exist, there would be 25% less Native doctors, just because the opportunities don't exist everywhere for my people that they do for the "majority". You may whine about the 7 INMED students, but what about the 50, primarily CAUCASIAN, students? yeah, that's what I thought. There is less of a percentage of Natives going to this University than the percentage of Natives that make up this state, on top of that I would guess that at least 1/2 of those natives (like myself) aren't even from this state, yet more of a percentage of White people make up this school than the percentage of White people that live in this state....hmmmm....what's going on there?
  6. the Dakota's weren't the fighters. So why call yourself the Fighting Sioux? Dakota's weren't known for Little Bighorn or Wounded Knee. Then you should change your name to the Corn-growing Sioux, or the Homesteading Sioux, because they weren't the plains Sioux that you all stereotype and admire.
  7. No, he's a wannabee. I think he's ashamed of his heritage, so he grew out his hair, has taken Lakota language for the last 3 years (same level), and now he thinks he's Sioux, talk about lost. What's really sad is he doesn't even correct people when they call him Indian, not until we come around does he acknowledge his true lineage.
  8. No doubt this GF Herald story will have made it to the newswire and some of you are here to see what the Fighting Sioux lovers are talking about. Before you start to wander this forum please be reminded that most people here have no clue as to the history of our Native people. They only know what they learned by going to a hockey game, or taking an Indian studies class from one of our "International" Indian Studies department instructors. Quick question ~~~What's the name of the University where a) Lakota Language is taught by a foreigner who can't even speak good english; b) you can count every Native athlete on one hand, with digits left over c)a mexican is putting up the Indian Association's tipi and thinking he's Sioux;, and d) Honor is shown by selling "________" dogs, H-"___________"-O, and "_______"veniers, oh and don't forget the green wigs. Yep, UND. Welcome to the University of North Dakota.
  9. lol, that's because you are not Sioux. I am an American, too. Proud enough to spend 9 years in the military.
  10. HMMMMM.....can't have it both ways, is that like saying you're honoring someone but that honor is really a smokescreen? My people, the Lakota, have all passed resolutions against the name. Simple as that. I don't care if the Red Lake or Turtle Mountain people say they are for it, they are not Sioux so I don't see why that argument would even hold water.
  11. Nope, I don't know ANY elders from my Sioux tribe that has anything negative to say about stance on this issue.
  12. One of my own? He was Chippewa? This just shows how truly ignorant you are by thinking ALL Indian people are the same. Pity pity pity, maybe you should learn more about Indian people than watching them dance.
