I think that the fault for the college hockey coverage can be evenly split between ESPN and the NC$$. ESPN is looking out for themselves. The NC$$ just saw the dollar signs and signed the deal. They probably never even considered that ESPN could hold their sports hostage. Or else they really didn't care as long as they got paid. You're right about going with satellite if you want more choice in sports. The internet may be the future of television, but I have also heard talk of cable companies and satellite providers going to more of a pay for what you want plan instead of the packages they have now. And that may spell the end of some of the networks that very few people watch. My guess is that we will continue to see large changes in the way that service is provided over the next decade or 2.

It isn't about media consolidation. It is about buying up product and companies trying to use that product to build up new networks. ESPN has purchased the rights to almost all of the NCAA tournaments. They have the right to do with those games what they want. They want to build ESPNU into a major cable network that is available on all cable systems. But they want those systems to pay them for using the network. Cable providers are tired of adding new channels and having to pay for them. ESPN is using college hockey and other events to try to force cable providers into putting ESPNU on their systems. The NFL is doing the same thing with their product. They own the rights to the games and want to make a lot of money by using those games. If they own the network they can make more money than if they sell the rights to another network. Eventually I could see them putting all NFL games on their own network. They want to force the cable providers to pay them for putting the network on their system. But they want the NFL Network on basic cable like ESPN, not on extended packages or as part of sports packages. The cable providers don't want to have to pay for that channel because their customers are tired of the increasing cost of cable TV. The Big Ten Network is just the latest to play this game. That is why people in the Twin Cities were not able to see most UMTC sporting events this year other than hockey. This whole game is about money. All of these companies want more of your money for the same product that you have been getting for years. I am not sure how to stop it, but I do know that as long as they keep making progress they will keep trying. The only example of this that I remember failing is Victory Sports and the Twins. They wanted to do the same thing. But they caved very quickly. ESPN and the NFL have very deep pockets and they will play these games for a long time if they think that they have a chance to win and establish the networks.

They play tomorrow night and the game will be on FSN North.

Mr. Leonard comes for a visit.

The UND-Princeton game will be on FSN North and on Altitude 2. The Wisconsin-Denver game is only scheduled on Altitude 2 at this point, FSN North will be showing Minnesota-Boston College. The final game for the Midwest regional on Sunday will be on ESPNU.

An e-mail from someone at FSN to Mike McNamara at KNOX radio in Grand Forks. He contacted them earlier today to see if they would be broadcasting any of the games. FSN had a meeting scheduled at 1:00 today and he got the e-mail about 1:35 or 1:40.

It was just announced that FSN will broadcast the Sioux game at 2:00 and the Gopher game at 6:30 on Saturday.

Pretty hard to say the "best" team won a series of 3 games when all 3 games went to overtime. I would say that it was 2 very evenly matched teams.

They can also set up side-by-side courts. I am pretty sure that the Alerus hosted Class A Boys and Girls State Tournaments at the same time a couple of years ago. IIRC they staggered the start times so that games were being played continuously all day.

Tickets are sold. Thanks.

I have 1 pair (2 tickets) available for this weekend against Michigan Tech. The seats are at the top of Section 306, the end that the Sioux shoot twice. Asking $20 per ticket. The same seats may also be available on Sunday if that game is needed, just ask. The tickets are in Grand Forks and we can arrange for delivery or just meet at the game on Saturday. PM me if you are interested.

I've had a hip pointer before and it hurts pretty much any time you move or it is bumped. But it is basically a bruise so it doesn't really prevent you from doing most things if you can take the pain. Because it is aggravated every time you move your leg in any direction it does take a while to fully heal.

I agree with you. The NCAA found a way to change the rules during the middle of the game. UND could very well have spent a lot more money and won the lawsuit. And less than a month later the NCAA would have legally recreated the ban. Continuing would have been a waste of time and money. UND would have won the skirmish and lost the war. The settlement created a window of 3 years to find a solution. The current problem is how the SBoHE and the NDUS have approached the topic since the settlement. We have seen little leadership in trying to work on a solution. If that continues a select few in tribal government will make the decision and the name will be changed before the end of the 3 year window. If they actively try to find some common ground and a solution that works for the vast majority then the nickname still has a chance to survive. But the only way I see that happening is if it goes to a vote of the entire tribe on each reservation.

The award presentation, including a sound bite from the President, was one of the stories on ABC Radio News this afternoon.
