  1. I totally agree.  I've been up from Mpls to Grand Forks many times for Sioux games and honestly, the crowd sometimes can lull you to sleep up there.  I've come to the point where I'd rather go mingle w/the die-hard Sioux fans in Houghton, St Cloud, Mankato, Mariucci, or any other road-venue.  It sure would be nice if the spirit of the Frozen Four got started at new REA.

I went to my first game at the new Ralph this year. Granted it was against Bemidji, but the crowd wasn't as firey as it used to be at the old Ralph. The new building is beautiful, but we commented on how the crowd from the 80's and 90's (myself included ??? ) was way more into the games. I miss pounding on the corner glass and rodents being thrown on the ice. . . ahhh the scorns on TV from Pat Sweeney . . . Perhaps the newness factor will wear off and things will get back to the good 'ol days.

  2. My folks are going to retire to Bemidji and have a place there already. I go up to Bemidji quite a bit and would enjoy living there for the most part (plus they get the SSN ??? ). Brainerd has about everything the TC's has but TRF may be the best fit job-wise.

  3. I'm considering moving our family to TRF to take a job. We currently live in the Twin Cities but I grew up in Grafton and she grew up in Park Rapids so moving back to a "small town" would be nice. I haven't been to TRF in a long time. Is there much there shopping-wise, schools, entertainment, etc? We're also considering Bemidji and Brainerd area.

Please let me know any thoughts on TRF . . .

  4. I second FP's appreciation and thanks; this is a great site that I hope continues on for many years. I would like to ask a personal question though.

With no advertisements, how is this board funded?

It might have been mentioned previously, but, if you are looking for a revenue stream how about selling SiouxSports.com hats, sweatshirts, MafiaMan "former avatar" calendars ??? , etc...?

Perhaps a discount to registered members and a freebie or two for anyone that has posted this idea within the last day or so :p . ???

The merchandising is a good idea (especially with no advertising). I'd also thank to thank the admin here and the people at the REA and the U's SI dept. - while there were hiccups :D in getting broadcasts, they always responded to questions and comments :p

Also, did anyone have a "grinder" at Sensors last weekend? I thought the attempt was good but it was served on a real plate - not what I remembered in GF with a soggy 1-ply paper plate. I do hope they bring them back for next year though.

  5. Unfortunately, I only found this web site this year but have been a fan since the 70's. I moved from ND before the internet wave and only kept track of Sioux hockey through the newspaper snipets. It's great sharing and seeing the enthusiasm for the greatest game in the world. This web site and the people on it make Sioux hockey that much more enjoyable. Let's go Sioux!

  6. I thought they called the game fairly well and didn't make up too $%&* as they go. I hope they use Thrusday nights crew instead of the afternoon's whistle-happy crew. The Guyer dive should have been though called and it should have been 4 on 4 instead of the PP.

Not that it mattered in the outcome, but what happend on the Goph's second goal when Parise was on his knees and the puck flew by?

I'm very happy I only have to hear "Paris-say" one more night from Clement (this year).

    Let's Go Sioux!

  7. As I said on another post, it's a no-brainer who wins . . . all of the teams the Sioux have beat in the playoffs have either worn red or maroon jerseys. Next up the Pies with the red jelly donut jerseys. Coincidence . . . I think not

  8. I hope the Sioux play and win with the same class as they've shown. As what someone mentioned earlier, "scoreboard" would be the best revenge. That being said, I would like to see someone check the $%&* into the Sioux bench.

You know you're in the height of hockey season when you come up with these prognostications - all of the teams the Sioux have beat in the playoffs have either worn red or maroon jerseys. Next up the Pies with the red jelly donut jerseyes. Coincidence . . . I think not

  9. If I learned anything yesterday, it is that you pay a big price for working.  Thus, I am leaving when the DU-CC game is going to start.

I thought refreshing this web site every few minutes was part of my job description - along with browsing USCHO, INCH and GPL. Work? Not today. T-minus seven hours to Bloomington.

  10. While Sioux fans would simply congratulate the Gophers on a nice season and move forward should they win? :D;)

I'm nervous not because I anticipate a loss, but because anyone that doesn't think their team can lose in a situation like this is delusional. These are two quality hockey teams, with excellent talent, coaching and desire - plus they've each had more than a week to get prepared and healthy. That's why I really like the Gophers chances because of the success Don has had in preparing teams for this situation. Doesn't mean they will win and I refuse to predict a victory because anything can happen. Hell, most didn't think the Vikings would lose Atlanta in 1998.:D

It's been a roller coaster of a year as we all know. Who would of thought (besides PCM) that they would reach the Final Four? Under most circumstances, I would take a loss at the tourney in stride and be proud of their accomplishements. That being said, losing to the rodents would suck! I live in the TC's and it would be a long summer (and on top of that have a few Gopher friends). Let's go Sioux!!! ;) Worse case - let's go CC! ;)

  11. Is the Sioux/Gopher game on ESPN or ESPN2?  According to my DVR it is going to be on ESPN.

    sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/espnhd/index

If you scroll down far enough you'll see it's on the Deuce . . .

  12. ESPN 2 is not available in HD yet from Time Warner & thats where I get ESPN HD and the local channels. I hope it will come online soon. But All sioux fans are welcome at all three lJoe Sensers ocations for the semi's & National Championship.

    Go Sioux

Cheesemover, will we be blessed with sound for the game?

  13. For us poor @#$%^&* not going to Columbus, is anyone planning on going there Thursday and (probably) Saturday night? I plan to hold at least one table.

I know there will be Goph fans there (re: GPL) so call and get a table or show up early. They show the games in HD, too.

  14. A Gopher fan at Mariucci last weekend asked me about my hatred for Gopher hockey.  I told him that if they reunited the Soviet 1980 Olympic team and had them play Minnesota, I'd be there wearing my CCCP jersey and waving my star and sickle flag!  :)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I feel the same. If if a Gopher win would help the Sioux at some point in the season, I'd still have a hard time routing for the Gophs. What the heck do we do if the worst happens - UM vs DU? Drive out to Minot and take over a silo?
