  1. "Hakstol pub"

I thought you were going to say he opened a bar... ;)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    I thought so too.

Cool to see anyone from college hockey receive positive publicity.

  2. Maybe the heat and humidity is getting to me, PCM.  Either that or living in the middle of Gopher-land is taking its toll on me.  I'll try using "the force" to resist the dark side.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    The conversion has begun. ;);):huh::lol:

I was just glad ZP decided to stay in the WCHA so I could watch him play. Good for the league and its fans when great players choose WCHA teams....even if it isn't "your" team. I think this past year's all-WCHA final four is a result both the talent & the competition level in the league.

  3. Oh here we go again...      :)  The 2003-2004 Gophers finished 27-14-3, tied for 4th place in the WCHA regular season.  They defeated Minn-Duluth 7-4 in the semi-finals of the WCHA playoffs and in one of the most thrilling games I've ever been to, beat the Sioux 5-4 to capture the Broadmoor Trophy.  They then defeated Notre Dame 5-2 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Minn-Duluth 3-1 in the regional championship.  While not a national championship season, it was hardly a team that didn't pan out.  I thought the Gophers had a very good team that year and most people were surprised that they didn't make the Frozen Four.  I guess anything less than a national championship is considered a poor season.  Not that there aren't plenty of Sioux fans on this board who feel the same way...

MM = Gopher apologist? Now I've seen everything!! ;):D

  4. Here's a question here that nobody has brought up.  How come Denver never gets to host the WCHA Final Five??  They got an arena out there that could hold it.  Why Not??

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't think Denver and/or CC (or the city of Denver) have ever bid on the Final Five. I wish they would, a week skiing & watching hockey would fit well into my schedule.

  5. I'm sure I could come up with 20 more reasons, but that's a good start.  With all due respect to GreyEagle, WPoS, and sagard...let the flaming begin!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

But will you respect me in the morning? ;):):D

I don't like UND but I certainly respect the program.

BTW, there is some neat stuff to do in NoDak. I couldn't go because of some work stuff but my wife & kids just spent a week following the Louis & Clark trail and going to Teddy Roosevelt NP. They had a great time.

  6. Frankly, awarding these for briefer, more impending periods allows the NCAA to keep track of how they're going at various sites (e.g. the previously untested REA) and use that in their decision.  Now that there are two Western regionals every year, REA should be right in the thick of the rotation every few years if they manage to meet revenue expectations.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    My thoughts exactly, Jim.

IMO the primary goal should be to keep the regionals out of Michigan. :silly::blush:

  7. I admit my bias towards College Hockey upfront so it concerns me to see players like Eposito, and possibly Yandle and Mueller choose the Major Junior route.  I understand that college is not for everyone with Chris Bourqe being a prime example but I am glad to see players like Cogliano, Toews, and Kessel pick the NCAA route even if it is for 1 or 2 years.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    I could not agree more.

  8. I LOVE that movie.  I need to rent it again.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Your royal dudeness....just buy it! :silly:

It is a great movie, I love it when John Goodman gets a face full of ashes.

  9. I'm just teasing, Five-HoleFrenzy. "Cemetery" is a commonly mis-spelled word. I normally expect St Cloud State fans to make that mistake, not Gopher fans.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

By God I think that was a compliment!

Backhanded, but a compliment nonetheless. ;)

  10. Haven't we?

    ;)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

dagies: You're not the only UND barometer I use. ;)

I agree with Sagard, I have high expectations every year for the Gophers and always expect an NCAA berth - at the very least. However, I also like to think I'm able to judge the team's chances fairly objectively & figured once MN took the Virg Foss/Craig Dahl Memorial First Half Championship the season outlook was grim for the beloved rodents.

BTW - MM & WPoS hugging? Gross! :D:glare::lol:

Edit: According to the St. Cloud paper Dahl has hired former MN asst Bob Motzko as his replacement....er.....new asst. coach. http://miva.sctimes.com/miva/cgi-bin/miva?...+20050531152607

  11. I'm guessing the rules in the State of Minnesota differ from those in North Dakota, but I can't imagine why Sid would think Craig Dahl can "annoint" his successor. If they're talking about firing the guy, why would you let him pick who is going to take over? It's weird. My thought is that Sid is trying to stir the pot a bit to pursuade some Gopher assistants to stay put and not look 70 miles west for career advancement opportunities.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

My thought is Sid should stick to something simple and easy to understand, like basketball.
