  1. I can play if we need. I'm not much of a hockey player, but if we're short numbers I can help out. I played (using the term loosely) two years ago, and not since. I'll watch the thread to see if I'm needed.

Then you will be assigned to cover me! ;)

  2. I think it is difficult to be objective over a subjective award, although Dagies is as close as I've seen. If Oshie and Kessell were on each others teams Gopher fans would be harping about two-way play and Sioux fans would be saying to just look at the numbers.

....and neither is a BADGer. So they have that going for them. :silly:

  3. Alas, my pro contract has fallen through. Sorry, I've had a rough couple of months between my grandmother's funeral, my mom's heart attack, and my deciding to quit my job and move out of Mormanville.

I booked my flight late last week for the Final Five and remembered about the SS.com/POI.com game, apparently a little too late. Thanks for taking over diggin! My flight doesn't leave Minneapolis until 9:30pm on Sunday, so I'll be coming to watch as always. Let me know if you need help getting a hold of anyone. I've saved email addresses from everyone who has played the last 3 years.

Wow, bad few weeks. Sorry about your grandma and best of luck to your mom.

    Good luck with the move.

  4. All we need to do is shut down the Gauthier line. I think the Gophers did a good job limiting their chances. Gauthier did score in the 5-1 loss but the game was already over. If I recall, it appeared that DU skated only three lines against Mn and basically ran out of gas. Carle was forced to press and ended up on his heals frequently. Last weekend defintitely did not help his Hobey chances although I still believe he's the best defensemen in the country.

    You're 100% correct.

The top DU line accounted for one 5X5 goal this weekend. It was late in the second and MN scored 9 seconds later to basically drop the hammer on DU. Guyer's line (Guyer, Chucko, Howe) kept them in check for most of the weekend. DU does only skate three lines (DU's fourth line could count their shifts per night on one hand) and only forechecks hard with the Statsny line. The other lines dump and regroup with one token forechecker. Spread the ice against DU and one good pass should get you out of the zone.

  5. And with the strong probability that the Gophers would travel to REA for the regional, it would be nice to end their season for a second year in a row. ;);)

Imagine if MN remains top four in the PWR & ends up with the number one in GF.......Gophers in the Sioux lockerroom.....that would drive some of yuse guys over the edge. ;);)

  6. I've already told my broomball team (made up mainly of Gopher fans) that the first goal I score tonite, I'm going to run by our opponents' bench with my hand cupped over my ear. Maybe for the second goal I score, I'll do the fake moon. If I get the hat trick, I'm going to take my stick and spank the goalie while yelling "who's your daddy?". If it starts a fight or I get a midconduct penalty, I'll just tell the ref that I was being spontaneous and it was 'heat-of-the-moment.'

Soooo, no worries about excess celebrations tonight. ;):p

  7. exactly, phil kessel is a blast to talk about, couldn't imagine my day without a little PK in the morning :p;)

if i played college hockey i personally would be very creative with my goal celebrations and go Terrell Owens for you all...maybe ride the stick like a horse and give it some swats as i skate around the whole arena, maybe use my a stick as a sword and go ZORRO for the crowd or even maybe use the stick as a shotgun and take out my teamates as fall to the ice while joining as i rifle them down (probably would not go over well with the parents who bring their young children to the game)...i will do some more thinking to see if i can think of some more creative celebrations ;)

I think the Chi Chi Rodriguez sword bit would be perfect. :D

  8. I remember a smattering (or more) of boos the first time ZP was introduced at Mariucci but I don't think it went far beyond that or anywhere near what Kessel faced in madtown. Of course, we MN fans were being dazzled by this kid from Austria.....

Personally, if MN can't get a blue chippa they're after I hope another WCHA team gets him. Good for the league & good for me as a fan.

  9. I hear you there, I might have escorted out of the arena myself after taking a bath in beer and helped into a BC jail probably sporting a shiner.

Wasting beer? Now that is something to get POed about!!

  10. Maybe. sagard has been complimentary of the Sioux players all year long though... So I'd say he doesn't count.

You know, sagard's a closet Sioux fan anyways. (I bring it up a lot because you know it is true, sagard)

    Confirmed.

Actually, sagard is simply a huge fan of the game who also happens to be a Gopher fan. These are the guys who are the most fun to talk hockey with (whether they are a Sioux, Gopher, Badger (poor bastiches), Terrier, Black Bear, etc. etc. etc fan) because the simply love the game.

That being said I'm very disappointed I wont be able to attend either UND game next weekend so I won't get to see the UND freshman class in person.

  11. I thought I had made both those points (I explicitly referred to posters "who don't frequent here", meaning from other message boards; and I introduced the holier-than-thou fan generically before saying "in this case..."). Philosophically, criticism of people who think their fanbase is better than others includes an implicit acknowledgement that ones own fanbase is not better than others, so must include such people (or is indicative of some sort of delusion or self-loathing).

Is there an English translation? :D:D

I've never thought about posting from a philosophical perspective, I post here because I like discussing & reading about my favorite sport. I also like beer. :D;)

  12. You're not still upset with me 'cuz I was on your big-screen at Mariucci, are you?

It was befitting for this larger than life reputation you've engineered. :0

Anyway, good luck through the holidays UNDers, see ya'll in January. ;)

  13. Two way street, hockey1. Last year, as I waited outside the OSU arena waiting for my bus to arrive, I was taunted by Gopher fans shouting "Sioux still suck" and "I hope you get your a**es kicked Saturday night." I shook my head and said "always classy Gopher fans" and walked away. Two way street my friend, two way street.

I was cheering for the WCHA school. ;)

BTW - I wasn't in Cowlumbus, otherwise we would have been buying each other beers....or at least you'd been buying for me if we had run into each other. :0

It was a great weekend of hockey for both teams and very entertaining to watch. Great passes, rushes up the ice, saves, and some chippyness....this weekend had a little of everything.

  14. Thanks for the (bad) trip down memory lane Farce, you communist. :D;);)

While I'm certainly not a UND fan one of the most memorable college games I've ever been to was while I attended UMD. I was in the stands for the comeback. Amazing comeback, especially considering UMD was loaded with great players.

  15. That was an incredible game. Giving some love to the gophers, there was the Final Five championship game from 2004, which was also a great game to watch, and a close second to 1997 as an "exciting" game.

1997 I was on the edge of my seat for most of the game. If I remember correctly, the game see-sawed back and forth throughout. I can still see Armbrust and the loose puck at the moment before he shot......

I certainly enjoyed the 2004 outcome much more. For some reason the 97 game has always stood out to me, probably because so much was stake regarding the NCAA tournament.

Bleepin Michigan and another overrated ECAC gets a bye.

  16. One of the most enjoyable MN/UND hockey games to watch - despite the final result - was the WCHA FF championship game between MN & UND in 1997. The teams ended up tied for the regular season title and the FF final goes to OT? How much better can it get? It was a great game to watch and basically determined which of the two teams would get the first round bye in the NCAA's while the loser would get Michigan in (surprise) Michigan. It was the start of a magical couple weeks for the Sioux.

  17. Cave - That was in OT of the Saturday night game during the first round of 2002 the WCHA playoffs. It was a rare down year for a Blais coached UND team (7th seed I believe because MN finished 3rd in the WCHA).

I have the Broten goal on my computer for an occasional viewing. :) Love or hate the Gophers, it was an amazing play. And, as long as we are reminiscing, how long did @#*!^$ Curtis Murphy play for UND? It seemed like he was at UND for a decade.....or at least he scored a decades worth of points against MN. ;):0

  18. Regardless of how Sioux fans may feel about the rivalry with the Gophers, I hate to see any player hurt. If we begin to cheer when rival players get injured, we have certainly lost our perspective. After all, it is still a game. We are also talking about players careers. I hope that the bantering is good-natured and we do not lose sight of that. From my perspective, that is particularly true of Danny Irmen who is from Fargo and is a very good person from a nice family. As much as I cheer against him when he is playing for the Gophers, I never wish injury upon any opposing player, particularly Danny Irmen.

I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to the Sioux beating the Gophers and Danny on the ice.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    This should be framed.....great post.

  19. There's no possibility of me taking over for Virg. The Herald has obviously already made its decision about that.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Because you're to close to retirement?

Good luck Virg, though it's always sad to see the remaining links to the past saunter off into the sunset.
