4 years two home games and two games in Fargo, that is about a good a deal a D2 will ever get from a IAA school like NDSU. I know Winona is a good D2 team but they would get lit up by most of the top 25 IAA's. UND could do well but how well I just don't know, they would probably be a ranked 30-40 in IAA. Even if UND won't play NDSU I would like to see UND go up against a top IAA like Montana or UNH. I think it would give UND an idea of how good IAA really is and what they need to do if they ever decide to move up.
-
I see that but I think NDSU isn't really considered to be part of a conference so I wonder what that means. I just don't think the NCAA would lump GWFC and Big South schools in with the Ivy, SWAC, and Non-Scholarship schools. If playing NDSU would hurt UND so much Bunning would have never called Taylor asking to start the rivarly back up again.
-
That is a myth, Carson Newman lost to NDSU last year and made the playoffs. Winona lost to SDSU last year and still made the playoffs, they even hosted a game. NDSU gave UND a sweet deal a few years ago but of course UND was too worried about not helping NDSU through their transtion so they declined, and that is why the two schools aren't playing.

The Cal Poly stadium can only hold 7000 due to half the stadium being torn up and renovated so this isn't a good comparison.

He was a scape goat for an inept Nebraska offense.

IAA Mid Majors are schools that don't offer any scholarships. Schools like Valpo and Drake.

I'll post this again. I didn't mean the all of country I meant Bohl was probably a better coach then any D2 coach UND would face. Bohl could be in a number of major DIA coaching staffs.
-
What does that have to do with anything I just said. And I think your wrong about IAA football. Most IAA schools have a much bigger following then D2 schools have.
-
I didn't mean the land I meant Bohl was probably a better coach then any D2 coach UND would face. Bohl could be in a number of major DIA coaching staffs. Lennon is a great coach but it would be interesting to see how he fairs in IAA(I think he would do well though). But I think Bohl has earned some respect and I don't really know how you couldn't say he is on Lennon's level.

Those titles where won in a different era of D2 football, most of the powerhouses of those days have moved on to greener pastures. D2 is shell of it's former self. I agree about the uniforms, it's time to bring the classic ones back.

NDSU was 10th? I don't know about that since the D2 regions weren't exatly even. NDSU played in what was easily the hardest region in the country for most of that period and that had alot to do with where they were ranked. And if D2 is so close to IAA then explain why top 10 Carson Newman was destroyed by NDSU last year. And the team NDSU plays this week lost 15-10 to Ok St explain to me how UNO or UND would crush them. The top 10 D2 are no where near the top 10 in IAA. I think halstrom had UND's IAA ranking right in saying they would be about 34.

Is this thread about D2 football? No, most of it centering on how UND would fare in the world of IAA football and I do care about that.

Say whatever you want but until UND plays a DIAA team who are you to say how good NDSU really is or any top 25 IAA school for that matter. I am serious I would like to see UND play teams like SIU, Nwst St, Montana st, Cal Poly, and UC Davis all in the same season and see what would happen. I don't think things would go as good as some of you UND fans think. But back to the fact that this Bison team is good and I think they would beat UND handily. Please tell me why UND would beat NDSU, I am intersted in hearing your opinion.
-
B2k- I don't care what UND does in D2 and for the most part the nation could care less. Whether UND wins or loses so what. What gets me angry is that UND fans and Kupchella don't seem to understand how good IAA really is and that UND wouldn't be able to go right in and dominate like you think. If UND had the schedule NDSU is having this year they would struggle , UND has never seen a schedule of this caliber. If UND and NDSU played tomorrow I would say NDSU 35 UND 14. Thie bison are bigger and faster and that would show up big time on the field. There is not one defense in D2 that UND would see that would compare to NDSU's and there are few if any coaches and Qb's that are as good as Walker and Bohl. And NDSU is 3-0 and ranked in the top 10, I'm feeling better then ever right now and I'm just here to set a few UND fans straight. Overall UND fans lack of knowledge of IAA shows every time you post. I challange any UND fan to go over to AnyGivenSaturday.com and tell them some of your views of IAA.

If UND was so much better then why didn't UND run up the score? The teams were close and the reason for NDSU missing the playoffs all those years were probably because they lost to UND. But that is in the past. Like I said earlier a key factor in the NDSU transformation is coach Bohl and if Bohl was coaching NDSU all those years I think things would have been much different(especially in the Babich era).
-
I think NDSU and UND were very close from 93-03. Yes, UND beat the Bison more often but the games were always close and NDSU was usually around the top of the NCC. That 2-8 year was just an aberation and nothing more, this team is completely different since Bohl has come in. It is if the Vikings fired Tice and replaced him with Belichick. Bohl has put his system in and has even lost great players and coaches but always seems to find replacement that are just as good or better, Bohl is why NDSU has gotten so good so fast.

Dave the rules have changed and now it isn't that much of a penalty for a IAA. UND could play one IAA and be fine and still make the playoffs.
-
Da Bizon has a point and that is that I would say NDSU would be about a top 35 team in IAA the year they beat Montana. Then with added scholarships NDSU moved up to top 25 last year, and now top 10 this year. I think if UND went IAA they could follow a similar path of success. If UND could find the talent and fund the scholarships fast enough they could be very competive very quickly just like NDSU did.
-
UND could play one IAA and be just fine. Both GVSU and CN have played IAA's in the past and it didn't affect them getting into the playoffs. NDSU played two IAA's their last year in D2 and were just one win away from making the playoffs and that was back in the day were playing a IAA really hurt and only 4 teams made the playoffs. If UND really wants to know where they would stand in IAA then they should play a IAA school.
-
Play Deleware and then we'll see how good you are. Comparing UND v WC and UD vs WC just doesn't work for me.
-
Dave K- A few years ago Deleware beat WC 80-0, I think they just got a big lead and put in some backups and coasted to a win. That game isn't a very good measuring stick. Now if UND actually had the guts to play a soild IAA school then you would have something to use to measure were UND would stand in IAA.
-
knowledge- Have you seen your UND schedule lately? West Chester? Winona? Cent Wast? Wst. Wash? Do these teams even have 63 scholarships between the four of them. Do they even have 50? It is one thing for NDSU to beat Montana while being a D2 school, it's another thing entirely for NDSU to finish in the top 20 of IAA while playing a schedule with maybe 4 montana caliber schools on it when they where a D2. Another thing, most of this years NDSU team had nothing to do with D2, most of the players wouldn't even be here if NDSU was still a D2. IAA teams are faster and Bigger. I watched a few NDSU games vs IAA schools last year and their is a noticable difference, from the days of when I watched D2 schools in the Dome. Also NDSU competes with more then just area schools while recruiting, if you haven't realized NDSU recruits nationwide(Florida, Arizona, Illinois, Texas, Mississippi, Nebraska, etc). I think if NDSU and UND played this year you would be suprised to see the spead, talent, and depth that SU has. To bad Kupchella and Thomas where afraid to play IAA NDSU because then you would have had the chance to see for yourself just how talented they are. And to be honest I don't think UND is talented enough to finish 3rd in the Great West. Just the other weekend UC Davis beat Stanford, NDSU crushed another IAA school, Cal Poly domlished a top 10 IAA Montana St, and SDSU gave Montana all they could handle. This conference is probably the 2nd best in the nation and probably has three of the top 10 defenses in all of IAA. Knowledge quit trying to draw comparisions using past NDSU teams and NDSU current team. When UND plays a top IAA school then you can start drawing comparisions of where UND would be in IAA until then just worry about D2 because that is all you should have any knowledge about.(unless of course UND's weak schedule has drawn you in to the Dome to watch NDSU play and for that I couldn't blame you)

South had 4 state titles last year.
-
I am not sure about this, I think Fargo South could make a pretty strong case for being the top HS in the state. The school has only won 109 titles in 30 years. Red River is great in some sports but the school just isn't as dominant as South is in athletics across the board.
