Folks, if the Big Ten calls, you answer. The jump by Notre Dame affirms that.

    Notre. Dame. Jumped.

Notre Dame left Hockey East for Big Ten Hockey. Get it?

Now, if the Big Ten goes to eight, who?

Omaha? UN-Lincoln won't go for that, even as their surrogate. Denver? Miami?

Folks, USCHO broke the "Notre Dame to Big Ten" story. I guess that tells me they have insights worth listening to, such as ...

I'm going to say the eastern* Big Ten got their team. Notre Dame fills barns in Ann Arbor, East Lansing, Happy Valley, and Columbus.

What in the west is the best hope to fill Minnesota's and Wisconsin's not at capacity arenas? There's one answer and USCHO says it above.

Arizona State can have UND's slot in the NCHC (and I'm pretty sure DU and CC wouldn't be all that upset).

If the Big Ten calls, you answer.

*Mich, Mich St, Ohio St, Penn St

That sounds like they need us.  I thought they said we need them?  :glare:

Supposedly Iowa wants nothing to do with hockey. If you talk to people from Iowa they'll tell you that hockey is nonexistent in the state outside of the few larger towns. Even then hockey is still less popular than wrestling. At the same time I always argue this with the idea that if you have anything Hawkeyes, Iowa fans will probably show up.

Iowa will never have hockey because of this guy...

  3. I voted "Regular donor and will not change for any nickname-related reason"; however, I reserve my right to target my donations as I see fit. No. Wait. That's what I've done all along. ;)

Will do the same for my donations and also the apparel I buy.  Depending on the nickname I may buy a hoodie with just UND.  The only thing constant is I will buy unless I don't like the nickname/logo and they don't offer UND only gear.

  4. Assuming only the same people, and all the same people, vote again in the 2nd round.  With a third vote looming, I doubt this round gets as many votes, esp from those two groups.

If my math is correct (BIG IF)  FH would need to get 68.7% of the Sundog/North Star vote to reach a 50% total and win.  I don't think it would happen but if it does I could live with that.  Not my choice of  names but at that point I would be in the minority and would adjust.

  5. Yep and marketing has sucked, and the name debate has been ongoing from the net to the paper to games. Can we have a game on ESPN or FSN where your non-nickname is not brought up. By just being North Dakota this nickname debate will never end!!

Can't say I remember any mention of the nickname issue during all the games I watched last year.  What games are you refering to?  Was there something said during the final 4 or regionals?

  6. Pretty sure I am not the only one that is calling the "Fighting Sioux Forever" crowd "temper tantrum throwers". Geaux basically called them "toddlers" in the initial posting on this thread. And I agree with him.

As Mr. Spock (the late Leonard Nimoy) used to put it: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one."

Tom Miller pretty much called us (the no name crowd) the same thing in his article I read today.  Different opinion of Tom after reading that.

Also, who is the many and who is the few in your quote from spock?

  7. Please not Flickertails.

    Please not Flickertails.

    Please not Flickertails.

    ...

How does this name get ANY support?  You know, I slog through each miserable day filled with failure and disappointment; the realities of adult working life.  I don't ask for much in return.  A clean, quiet home, cold beer, and just one TV tuned to the NHL playoffs instead of Dance Moms, Beverly Hills Moms, some a-hole chef who screams at idiot junior chefs, some a-hole supermodel yelling at chubby people vomiting on the stairmaster, horrific plastic surgery addicts, former Olympians changing to old grandmas, stupid twenty somethings doing stupid things, and worst of all, Major League Baseball.

And then I have to come to North Dakota based web media and see one of the WORST names in sporting history actually gain traction to replace the BEST name in sporting history.  Please, someone provide a link to something somewhere on the web that actually makes some f'ing sense.  Please convince me that logic, reason, sanity, and goodness still exist in the human condition.

    I'll start.  This.

Totally agree!  Why would we go back to a name that was already replaced once before?  Just to replace it again in the future?

No nickname is the best option.  While I agree that a side benifit to no name is we can still consider ourselves the Sioux, my reasoning for no name is to remove some over reaching power from the NCAA.  No name = no power.

  8. You know, I suspect I could pick nine people off this board and come up with a committee better suited to parse through the suggestions.

    Let's see:

    jimdahl - chair

The Sicatoka - vice chair, because I'm good at many vices ;)

    ericpnelson

    Benny Baker

    jdub27

    bincitysioux

    82SiouxFan

    dagies

    Hayduke

And I left off a whole lot of folks who would do very well on such a committee (Sioux-cia, Oxbow, Mafia, ... PCM ... )

Don't forget me, or don't I have enough posts?
