I don't understand all the animosity towards the third place game. That game (combined with a wisconsin win) is what got us into the national tourney 2 years ago.

Lots of good pressure here.

My picture didn't freeze. We're pretty lucky that we get to watch a 3rd place game at all (albeit SD), not to mention the UND radio audio. It isn't NCHC's lack of quality, it's the Target Center's.
And also, we're winning.

Hooked up to TH now.

I'm surprised the Target center is still SD. Wouldn't they upgrade that for basketball games?

Yeah. Just confirmed with southpaw that there isn't sound on the feed yet.
Edit: I mean from the production side.

Yup. No Shore, Butcher or Arnold on ice.
Levin sitting too.

Even if it doesn't affect our standings and seeding in the Regionals, it is still either a momentum-builder, or a momentum killer. And DU swept us at home a few weeks ago, so anything can happen. I just hope we can eek out a win and gain some momentum.
Absolutely agree here. Beating Denver would bring the confidence level up a bit, I think. Just need to have a high compete level, play a full 60 minutes, win the little puck battles, have good net front presence, crash the net, have a lunch pail mentality, look for those greasy goals, and we'll be good. Did I miss anything?

Personally, I want the team to win the national title. That result is more likely if North Dakota plays Robert Morris in the First Round rather than Northeastern.
I really couldn't care less if we backed our way through the tournament and won a national championship. I don't believe the '83 Badgers put an asterisk on their National Title banner, and our '97 banner is still pretty nice.
Exactly my thinking. Yes, you have to beat the best in order to be the best, but there's nothing wrong with hoping to face a team that had to win an autobid instead of facing a team that would be #10 in pairwise if they had split with Bentley instead of getting swept early in the season.

Lineup changes:
St Clair for JJ
Olson for Wilke
Wolanin for Ladue........he was to be nicked up otherwise this makes no sense.
I think all 3 of them are dinged up, not just LaDue. Denver also sitting some key players.

Flyers lost to Pit 4-1 today. It dropped Philly out of a playoff spot, 1 point back of Detroit.

Read that he caught an edge, then hit his head on the ice. Was in warm ups, so he didn't have helmet on.
Ugh, that's horrible.

If Northeastern makes the tournament they are locked in as a #4 seed and can't play Providence. If Quinnipiac wins they will be the #1 overall seed, and Northeastern would be sent to either Cincinnati or St. Paul. IMO, the only way Northeastern stays east is if Quinnipiac loses and is the #3 overall seed, which requires both North Dakota and SCSU to win.
Ah, I forgot about the intraconference thing with Providence. I was thinking possibly Minn or Mankato to St Paul (if only one makes it), Ferris to Cinci if they win, etc..

He has long been one of the favorite refs of players. When relatively fit people get injured from falling, I always wonder if the fall was completely accidental, or if something happened medically (vertigo, MI, stroke, seizure, etc.) to cause the fall in the first place. Hopefully Butch has a quick recovery.

I'm not worried about the prospect of playing Minnesota as a 4-seed. I think they look pitiful. Northeastern is another matter, though thankfully NU isn't likely to be sent to Cincy or St. Paul.

Question: Let's say Duluth, Northeastern, and Minnesota all win tonight. Who's out of the tournament as a result? Would Yale be out?
Yes, that's the one situation that kicks Yale out, I believe.

Does Denver need to win today for any seeding purposes or are they a #2-3 anyway?
They're #6 in pairwise no matter what happens anywhere.

Agreed.

This is what happens when you play your last four games against Western Michigan and Colorado College. No matter what, you end up playing down a level and then get blasted when you play a real team again.
I think this is probably a big factor. On the one hand, I'm bummed they lost. On the other hand, thank goodness they got to play some real competition before the regional.
-
Should be an interesting HE final. You have a team that basically played 2 games yesterday vs a team that will essentially be playing it's 2nd game today.

Gotta think that Johnson will stay with the women's program...
Cary Eades...talk about the irony there if that happened! WATER BOTTLE!
I think Johnson will at least interview. Gwoz, possibly Eades (love it), Don Granato?

You're missing he point though. It's nothing to do with home many games Johnson missed but how many games he played to at least have a large enough sample size so to speak (like requiring say 475 at bats to win the batting average crown in MLB) to measure one's season. Johnson played 28 games while Vesey played 30 games so just 2 less games. Basically Johnson played enough games to measure his season. If one says 28 games isn't enough then quite possibly one could say 30 games isn't enough either.
I get the point. I even agree. I'm just saying that I don't think everyone who votes agrees, and that's why he's not getting adequate recognition for one hell of a season.

Maybe, he's played in 2 less games than Vesey. Does Vesey get dinged for playing in less games? I doubt it.
ECAC plays a shorter schedule as a whole, and Vesey missed 1 game of his team's 31. Johnson missed 10 of UND's 38. I don't think that's comparable.

I agree with everything you said here. Sucks that Cam is getting penalized due to the uber talented dcore in front of him.
I actually think Cam is getting penalized due to missing 1/3 of the season with an injury moreso than the D core. I hope Vesey wins it.

With last night's win over DET, Philly is now 1 pt back of DET (with 2 games in hand) and 4 points back of PIT (with 1 game in hand). Malkin being out 6-8 weeks certainly doesn't hurt philly's chances of catching up, either.

Luke has seemed to find his brain at the right time in the season.
He did the same last season, if I recall. He took fewer dumb penalties and cranked up the points as we neared the playoffs last year.

I do that too. The last time I picked UND to get out of the regional/win it all was the year we got spanked by BC in Denver.
