I still think we win next week. Is that enough to get us in?

Maybe. I can see no reason to complain if we win and get left out. If we can’t win games like today, we won’t go far in the playoffs anyway.

This has been an area of my curiosity for several seasons. I can’t imagine our coaches don’t know how to teach these things, so are the players just not athletic enough, not smart enough, or what’s the deal?

The coaches teach them when to break down, to wrap up when they tackle, and finish. Just like offensive linemen are taught to keep their feet moving and finish their blocks. It’s basic fundamental FB. I’m not sure why we are still struggling. My earlier point was that although Geaux-Sioux makes valid points, I’m not convinced our size is the problem. I just reviewed the Bison depth chart for tomorrow. We are actually as big or bigger.
At some point the players need to go out and do their job. If you can’t block and tackle it doesn’t matter what offense or defense you run or what plays are called, you will struggle.
I believe we are capable of winning this game.  All 11 guys can beat their opponent on a given play. They need to dig deep and make that happen each play and trust their teammates to do the same.

In checking out their roster they look the way I wish we’d look in the trenches. They’re bigger than us on both lines and by a lot on the DL.

I just reviewed our depth chart for this game.  We rotate the front 7 on defense and use 3 TEs. I did compare with the SDak state depth chart and we are similar to the top FCS team size wise. I couldn’t easily find the USD depth chart but here is ours:

    TE: 255 250 245.  T: 305 305. G: 300 320. C: 315.  DE: 260 270 250 245. NG: 315 290. OLB: 220 220 225 225. ILB: 230 230 235 235

I don’t think our size is the issue it had been.  We are big enough.  Bigger can be better if quickness and speed also improve.  Defensively, I believe our biggest problems are we don’t tackle well, we overrun plays that take us out of position and we lose outside contain or have poor angles on the ball carrier or QB in the pocket or scrambling. Too often we don’t wrap up on the ball carrier.  Offensively we have been decent except for UNI game but Oline has to have their best game against a good defense.

    UND 24-20.

    talent

Agree, but wasn’t it his choice to decommit?  Was it true that UND wanted him to play juniors last year and come this year?  Considering his play last year, UND seems to have been correct. It would be great to have him at UND.
You probably have the inside info.

I posted this after the Goofer series. I will post it again here. Because I think the best is still to come with this UND team:

"You play baseball coach for a moment. Two players run to first. They both have the same time, but one has perfect form, the other, lousy form."

    Which one do you pick?

    The one with lousy form.

    Why?

‘Cause teach him the right form...and he beats the other guy.

Check back in April to see if I am right.

That’s also a reason when, all else is equal, many coaches choose the multi sport athlete over the hockey only kid. There is a higher upside to the multi sport kid once he focuses on one sport. Studies show single sport athletes peak earlier than multi sport athletes in addition to being more prone to injuries.

Don’t tell the Gophers, but Augustana is ahead of them in the PWR so far .

Their start has been impressive for a new program. Garret Raboin is an outstanding coach, well liked and highly respected by his players. Josh Morton (former UND FB) is the AD and will give the program the support they need to develop a competitive program.

I got chastised for saying this a year ago…my beliefs haven’t changed (and neither has the product on the field), but I’m guessing Ira and the good ole boys will get after me for saying that…

This program is better than what it’s shown the last two weeks.  It’s squandered a metric ton of goodwill from Oct. 14th…I’m not saying anything more…I’m just really disappointed in our response to a program defining win…

It’s hard to even think playoffs when we play like this.  Thank god we won I guess or it would have gotten really ugly…and the kids don’t deserve that.

I don’t have anything to do with either the good old boys, nor the hiring or firing of coaches. I had nothing to do with firing the last coach nor the hiring of any of this staff. They don’t ask for my opinion, they ask for my money.

I happen to agree with the rest of your post. If we can’t win out we have no reason to complain if we don’t make the playoffs.

You’re a cottontop so you didn’t get the tricks reference :D not your fault!

I said in an earlier post that the 360 guys are the most sensitive people out there. Well @iramurphy @jdub27 @SiouxBoys @SD UND are on top of that list as well. Never seen guys with such fragile egos on a public sports forum :D

Sorry, but I don’t qualify as a “cotton top”.  I didn’t respond to a post about me. A guy says he is going to show us his résumé/CV I took him for his word. I would like to read it.
I’m not defending the 360 guys I haven’t heard their podcast. I normally don’t listen to podcasts. Has nothing to do with egos.

Kelly probably isn't going to see this. No need to do tricks on it like that pal.

Nothing tricky. Guy says he will provide his résumé/CV “any day”.  Time to man up. Kelly isn’t the guy bragging about his CV.

I've said this before.......you take jerry, trey, tommy, and romfo and throw their names away and just show up unannounced and watched practice not knowing who was qb1, 2, 3, or 4 and saw all four throw and run and whatnot you (i) would put jerry at qb1....he has it all.

but yes i agree being a qb is more than "chucking the pigskin"....but where i disagree is that just because you promote someone from 4 stringer to starter everyone is just gonna get pissed or quit.  if jerry is the "guy" put him in and a couple of field stretchers...hakim or torey.....would love to see five wide on the first lay against isu(b) with jerry and bo, wes, nate d, korey, and hakim....pick your poison.

how to quickly lose a team is have the qb play afraid no matter what year or status he is....twice now in "big" games tommy has literally just said..."you want this ball i'll just gently lay in down in front of you...jump on it"...it's not like he was pulverized or something....he literally just put it on the turf. can't happen...but it does/did

I have watched them. I know you have claimed you know more about football than the rest of us, but with all due respect, I will trust my own judgement based on my experience. It also involves watching practice, games, warmups (and additional experiences). Same for you.
That means your opinion and my opinion are not more valid than the rest of the so called “clueless clowns” that someone called the rest of us not too long ago.
    We will see over time.

yes...kaminski is the future so might as well get some reps under his belt for when he starts game 1 next year in ames....

I have assumed Kaminski is very good based on his HS play which is no better than Feeney or Romfo.  Feeney and Romfo have both played well at this level thus far. Kaminski will get his chance. If he is as good as you think he is, then I would wonder why the Badgers wouldn’t have gone after him. They could use help at QB. That doesn’t mean he won’t become our starter but if he is so good he should be named a starter ahead of 2 proven winners who have already played well at this level, then I’m surprised Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Iowa didn’t go after him. They all have mediocre QB’s right now.

No one has yet earned the starting job for game one next fall. I have watched all three throw to receivers in practice/warmups and I haven’t seen anything that would make me think it’s a done deal. It’s a discussion for a later date.

No their boosters $$$$$ are the ones who make the decisions, fans with no $$$$ are just that….. fans

Boosters/fans don’t make decisions (nor should they). They certainly can create pressure on the decision makers if they organize and provide enough of the necessary resources that would create a significant hardship if withheld or create important opportunities if given.

While it wasn't a rivalry game per se, the regional game between Minnesota and Holy Cross. I remember going to the KFAN remote out at the Long-Haul Saloon, and everyone on the Gopher side looked past the Crusaders. It was on and on about UND had no chance the mighty Gophers and Michigan was probably going to win.  I remember, the game, I went with a buddy of mine that was a Gopher fan. After the Gophers lost in OT, I remember going to the bathroom. I was trying to use the facilities and this pathetic Gopher fan comes up to me, and says "we would have won." I laughed at him and said, Skippy your team is already on the bus ride home. Please go away so I can finish my business. I remember how loud the arena was after the game and it never quieted down. Michigan came out and UND drilled them 5-0.

We had seats to the left of the Michigan bench. A guy in our row yelled at them “does the Michigan FB team know a bunch of pussies are wearing their helmets”).

I see too much traffic in this thread and not enough worry about UNI.

I hope the team is not this way.

Most players and coaches probably have no idea who these media rubes are. I don’t know who they are other than the forum guys. (Not cuz I’m old, it’s cuz I don’t give a rats ass what they think).
Team has moved beyond the media static from Bison game.

Updated as of now. Been a quiet period while college coaches and HS players are focused on their own seasons. In Miller's article on Lotysz, he mentioned that there were 20 commits, but for the life of me I can only find 19. If you see I'm missing somebody, let me know and I'll be sure to correct it!

Should try to get the kids from Rolette, F North, and Rocori to upgrade before signing date. Still time to flip a couple.

Certainly a concern. An area we need to show significant improvement. Hopefully we can be consistent from 40 and in and hit >60% or better on anything longer. That should be the minimum. We should be able to achieve that. Very few extra points would be short from inside 40. So I would say it’s a concern but I wouldn’t hesitate on any FG from 45 on in. Having said that I don’t watch these guys practice so maybe others have better insight.
