Others have stated that Carson Carels is silently committed. From what I know, there is some level of truth to that. I do not know if he is silently committed or not, but I can confirm that UND would be the destination if he leaves the CHL as of now. I do not want to be reckless on here with what I say. I am just building off of what others have said as well. I do not know anything about other targets, like DuPont, outside of what is public knowledge.
-
Everything up to this point on DuPont is conjecture. His recruiting process will look similar to McKennas with less hype. I expect UND to be in his top 3/4 but on the outside looking in when it comes down to his final decision. Side note, the McKenna/Penn State saga has definitely made Verhoeff’s decision look better and potentially benefits UND in future recruiting battles for similar talents. I just don’t see that player being DuPont next year for UND.
-
I cannot confirm Carels is a silent commit but from what I have heard, I would not be surprised if he was. At the very least, I believe it is UND or Prince George next year. A lot of work has been done with him.
-
More of a we are rooting for a player to want to play closer to home situation. Heard this player loves where he is at though.
-
I did not get the impression that this player is silently committed. I do believe it is between UND and staying in the CHL, as of now.
-
At the very least, the rumor linking this player to UND is true. It sounds like it is more of a UND or CHL decision rather than UND or another program.
-
I have heard UND is in good standing with a specific player if he decides to leave his CHL team after this season. Nothing is imminent but there is mutual interest.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

The football team spent a pretty penny to retain a couple of their players recently. It wouldn’t surprise me if the hockey team did the same to retain Livanavage or Wiebe. The hockey team definitely has deeper pockets as well. -
Agreed. Jumping from the CHL is less intimidating when you’re joining a team with players that did the same thing is more so my point. It would be ignorant to believe that Verhoeff, Reschny, etc. are not actively recruiting some of their buddies on top of the work that the staff is already doing. Minnesota will be fighting an uphill battle since they did not immediately embrace the CHL.

Minnesota was caught with their pants down last spring and seemingly did about it. I expect a lot of programs to follow suit with the Bryn Chyzyk hire. Having a “coach” on the recruiting trail during the season is a massive advantage. UND got extremely fortunate last offseason and I do not think they are done reaping the rewards. There’s a good chance UND is able to land a guy or two for next year based off of Verhoeff or Reschny already being here.

I actually enjoy listening to the GPL podcast after some of Minnesota’s struggles. They are very critical about Minnesota’s roster construction over the past year. One thing that I thought they nailed last week was that you cannot expect to land a McKenna, Martone, etc. if you don’t have the pieces to support them. Those type of players should and will be your last pieces to the puzzle. They currently don’t have the pieces in place to make Minnesota an attractive destination for high end talent.

As of now, he said he’s planning on coming back for another year. He also noted that things could change depending on who drafts him. -

I ran into Keaton Verhoeff the other day. He talked to me longer than he needed to. Super respectful kid. He said his main focus is winning a natty and loves it here. -
Carson Carels is on a 16 game point streak for Prince George. Now up to 51 points in 43 games.

Great job by Strathmann coming off of the wall and walking the line

To your point, Brock Schultz and Cooper Simpson are definitely locks. Between O’Niell, Ashton Schultz, and Pilgrim, O’Niell will very likely be the chosen because of his size, skating, and compete level. He’s a guy that you can plug and play in the bottom 6 next season and potentially play PK as well. There is a risk of losing the other two but other programs might want them back in juniors as well. Pilgrim probably will play college next year, here or elsewhere. I would guess if nobody leaves early, they will make room to get another open spot. Adding a player from the CHL and one experienced player from the portal would be ideal. I see them adding at least one player that can play up in the lineup next year.

Unofficial update on Reschny as of about an hour ago -
If anything, Bob benefited from players staying longer than expected. Rinzel and Snuggerud were first rounders in 2022 and waited 3 years to turn pro. Wood would have been a senior this year. Kurth had graduated last spring and was ready to move on. Chesley and Moore were a little surprising but they were top 40 picks that had already played 2/3 years. Losing high NHL picks after a couple of years should not sneak up on you. UND added close to 10 guys that were not previously committed or on the team last spring/summer and are a top 3 team. A comment like this would infuriate me if I was a gopher fan.

This BU team plays like half of their guys are already in the portal
-
Brock England is having a solid rookie season with Seattle in the WHL. He currently has 39 points in 44 games. He’ll be a top target for the 27/28 season, assuming he makes the jump to college.
-
The cost of firing Bob, buying out Barr, and signing him to a new contract would be very steep. Likely well over $2 million. That’s also if Barr is willing to leave Maine for Minnesota.
-
The “fire Bob” chatter is starting to get loud in Dinkytown. Letting him go is warranted but unlikely, in my opinion.

It’s encouraging knowing that this staff is a lot more proactive, rather than reactive when it comes to recruiting and retention. Anything or anyone is on the table, including poaching a top guy from another program.
