  1. Aren't his parents both UND alums? Feel like he's much more loyal to UND than he ever was to BU
  2. Vigneault took the Flyers to the playoffs in 2020 after Hakstol got them there in 2018.
  3. Wouldn't necessarily think a ton. North Dakota is better positioned than almost every other program (Michigan, Denver, Boston University, Boston College are positioned very well) to recruit CHLers, especially Dub guys. North Dakota's staff has always been full of Western Canadians and the player alumni base is almost half Western Canadian. Regardless of who they hire, they have to go after high end CHLers, just easier doing that if you hire a Canadian.
  4. Gophers have a lot of talent but haven't had the clutch gene much of this year. In a hypothetical Western Michigan Minnesota matchup, Slukynsky outduels Souliere & Bump should produce well. Been pretty underwhelmed by Oliver Moore and it's not like Matthew Wood has really popped off for the Gophers, probably just met the baseline production expectations. Huglen being out really hurts Minnesota as well.
  5. Zakreski two goals tonight for Portland, up to 39 on the season in 66 games.
  6. Feels like Berry (& staff) have a specific way they want to play but then don't really recruit for that style, leading to us seeing whatever the hell that was this season (and many seasons lately). They recruit pretty well, but they're not get many elite blue chippers whose talent just overwhelms you every game, nor are they getting many older grinders who have NCAA ready games right when they come in at 20 or 21 years old. Not good when McLaughlin looked very off most of this year, don't know what to think of him at this point
  7. Gotta give a ton of credit to Ferschweiler for recruiting some damn good players and turning nobodies into dudes. Slukynsky brothers were about to go to Northern Michigan and Bump was at Vermont before both programs lost their coaches, Ferschweiler comes off the top rope & steals em last minute. Helluva job
  8. The fact that no one ever Kronwalls Bump means most players are pretty soft nowadays
  9. Most guys who are more talented don't want to play physical "football mentality" brand of hockey. Everybody seems to be more of a skilled star growing up through minor hockey and then HS or junior. Ferschweiler has instilled some sort of mentality/culture/identity that has gotten a lot of JAGs to play inspired. Good for Western Michigan
  10. Apparently he was down to North Dakota and Minnesota Duluth in his original recruitment. Would have looked nice next to Blake
  11. B1G Championship is never ending. Augustine and Terness are battling
  12. Someone said Berry has taken UND Hockey several steps down below NDSU Football, to which Yzerman19 stated that NDSU Football is irrelevant nationally because it's FCS, to which several said NCAA Hockey is mostly irrelevant nationally. Just a tangent that happens in message board threads sometimes. I think we all know the program has gotten stale, Berry isn't pushing the program forward, thus should be fired.
  13. Would be a dream recruit, just slightly below Jake Sanderson at the same age. I bet he signs days after being drafted, unless a team like the Bruins (who love having prospects play NCAA) tells him to go to university for a year or two.
  14. Kane Barch is Canadian, has played all of his minor hockey there. Uses his Texas birthplace from when his dad Krys Barch was playing for the Stars in order to loophole his way into being eligible for the NTDP/USA Hockey just like EJ Emery has.
  15. Sure, which makes it more puzzling why Berry/Jackson/staff don't recruit more Illinoisans & Californians. Haven't had someone from California since Grimaldi, Strathmann the first guy from Illinois since the mid 2000s. I know most of the California kids will prefer Denver (and now Arizona State) while most of the Illinois kids will prefer Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, but still, you gotta make the effort to actually recruit.
  16. NCAA Hockey (and hockey generally speaking) is popular in about 10 of 50 states. Extremely popular in maybe 5 or 6 of those 10. Sad reality, but such is life
  17. Lack of national interest sure, but also cost/expenses. Maintaining ice costs a small fortune, hence why you need dozens of millions to start a D1 program. Soccer & basketball cost nothing, (almost) everyone loves football so that gets funded regardless. Hockey is such an expensive sport. I bet NDSU would have a D1 program if it weren't so expensive. Title IX of course plays a factor with who has a D1 program. Back to the original point, Berry needs to be gone. Program is so stale, you should never struggle to beat a horrific Miami team in both games in Oxford.
  18. Wish Iowa and Illinois would add teams. Illinois has the funding/arena issue, but it would be great for them with the number of D1 players coming out of the state (vast majority in Chicago suburbs), plus great rivalries right away with Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and others in the B1G. Iowa has the ECHL rink right outside of Iowa City in Coralville, but I just don't think they have the funding/interest right now. It's a football first and second, wrestling third, basketball fourth school, but they'd have great rivalries right away with Minnesota and Wisconsin. Plenty of casual hockey interest in Iowa with the USHL presence there.
  19. Tim Washe's brother Paul was arrested for sexual assault. Very well publicized
  20. Just seems extremely uncertain right now with their coach begging for donations on Twitter this week. Predators gotta chip in a lot more money and/or find a bigger donor.
  21. Is Tennessee State still coming into the NCAA for 2025-26 with their budget issues?
  22. Cam Lund (Northeastern) signed his ELC with the San Jose Sharks. Big loss for the Huskies
  23. Sanderson with a goal last night for Muskegon, he's starting to play more and a bit better
  24. Some Dub guys I would go after hard: 2005: Teyden Trembecky (Victoria), Luke Mistelbacher (Swift Current), Justin Kipkie (Victoria, unsigned Arizona/Utah 2023 5th rounder), 2006: Roger McQueen (Brandon, 2025 Draft eligible), Carter Bear (Everett, 2025 Draft eligible), Josh Ravensbergen (Prince George, 2025 Draft eligible) Lynden Lakovic (Moose Jaw, 2025 Draft eligible), Jonas Woo (Medicine Hat, 2025 Draft eligible), Clarke Caswell (Swift Current, unsigned Seattle 2024 5th rounder), Tomas Mrsic (Prince Albert, unsigned St Louis 2024 4th rounder), Cayden Lindstrom (Medicine Hat, unsigned Columbus 2024 1st rounder, massive back issue kept him out injured all year, heavy NCAA interest rumors), Miles Cooper (Wenatchee), Anders Miller (Calgary, 2025 Draft eligible, goalie), Ethan Simcoe (Edmonton, goalie), Jayden Kraus (Victoria, 2025 Draft eligible, goalie), Bryce Pickford (Medicine Hat) 2007: Gavin McKenna (Medicine Hat, 2026 Draft eligible), Ben Kindel (Calgary, 2025 Draft eligible), Jackson Smith (Tri City, 2025 Draft eligible), Cole Reschny (Victoria, 2025 Draft eligible), Cameron Schmidt (Vancouver, 2025 Draft eligible), Nathan Behm (Kamloops, 2025 Draft eligible), Braden Cootes (Seattle, 2025 Draft eligible), Blake Fiddler (Edmonton, 2025 Draft eligible), Will Sharpe (Kelowna, 2025 Draft eligible), Aaron Obobaifo (Vancouver, 2025 Draft eligible), Burke Hood (Vancouver, 2025 Draft eligible, goalie) Can't get all of em of course, but you should be able to get 5 at least. Many will still sign pro deals to go straight from junior to pro, but some will end up in the NCAA most certainly. All of these guys are mildly aware of what North Dakota Hockey is (or was), should be fairly easy recruiting if the UND coaching staff (much of which is Western Canadian) uses their connections & actually tries to get some of these dudes. Josh Zakreski is a good start, but he cannot be the only one. Go after all of the talented O and Q guys, just not confident they'd wanna go even further away from their region. Ryan Roobroeck (late 2007, Niagara, 2026 Draft eligible) would be a nice get out of the O.
