Good question, do not know. He had an interest before he joined Ryun Williams at CSU in 2018. Ryun and Rico go way back. Played against each other in the NCC, UND vs USD, both point guards. Both hired/recommended by Greg McDermott at Wayne, Nebraska, Ryun was HC-WBB, Rico HC-MBB, they overlapped 8 years there. They have become great friends and Coach well together. He expressed interest to me both during the Brewster Change and the Mallory Change, but never interviewed; both hires were done in-house and very quickly.

UND moved to D1 status in 2008, completed its transition in 2012. It has been 13 years. Just last year, they got their 1st film study room. Although they have to share with the Men's program. It came mostly from outside donations. 13 Years to get a film room? Unacceptable if you want to recruit players who are D1, players like the facilities and amenities. Locker room, Study Facilities, Film Rooms, Snack Areas, Conditioning and Weight rooms, - all the things Hockey has.... Also, we could hire someone with knowledge and experience in a D1 program, which we have not the last 2 hires.

You will get your wish: 3 Games in December against Bismarck State College, Mayville State, and Dickinson State. All 3 should be cake walks for a truly D1 Program.

Thank you Defense!!! Scoring drives. 33 yards -3 pts 20 yards -7 pts 50 yards-7pts 25 yards -7 pts @UNDfootball đ

For those of you wondering about Turnovers, it can be fixed, by recruiting and coaching. There is a guy at Colorado State that would love to be here, but never extended an invite or granted an interview. Year end and year out Rico Burkett (UND Grad)- Asst at CSU has his Rams competitive and fun to watch.

Brewster had success but was not liked by our New AD Chaves and was let go. Since then the Athletic Administration has failed to address issues as facilities, financial commitments, and hiring of a qualified D1 coach. Other programs within our region have hired and moved forward, we have not. You can even compare D1 Volleyball at UND to this problem! Before Covid, NIL, Transfer Portal all the issues that everyone uses as scapegoats. We had success making the NCAA National Tournament- once in WBB and 2x in Volleyball. Name me an outside our program, Coach that the AD has brought in that has consistently got us a competitive above .500 record? (I would consider Bubba, Schmidt, Berry, Jackson all in program) As far as funds, with ticket prices, increased required seating donations, and level of attendance. There should be plenty of funds to go around, unless we need an another multi million dollar hockey locker room renovation.

Saw moments of Good Basketball today from the jump. My opinion was the presence of Mikayla Aumer in the starting 5. They closed out on shooters and played hard. Still had 19 Turnovers, but only gave away 13 points. Hit the boards hard and controlled inside the paint. Also helped Wyoming Best Player was 1-10 from field, but Walker had something to do with that. Hopefully the trend continues, I was not impressed by Wyoming at all from a 22-12 Team last year from MWC.

One could argue that Hockey and football were already in the system, Coaches that were elevated or came back. I have yet to see Chaves hire a Coach and produce consistently an above .500 Season in a major Sport. We have had some successes in Tennis, Track, Golf (individually). Still waiting for a "Home Run" Hire?

Mac alluded to last night the Court Case on December 15th - The 5-year eligibility Rule that could make Red Shirts totally obsolete.

I just want to enjoy watching a competitive Womenâs Basketball game, cheer for my home team, and have hope that we will have a chance? Really since Roebuck left in 2013 we may have only had 2-3 years worth watching. Really sad deal.

Just gave up 56 points in a half!

It should be noted that Dennis Hutter was hired in 3/2024, took the Head Job in 3/2025. The 10 players who left the program in 2024 left Mallory, Hutter, and Teammates. They all should shoulder some accountability. Some of these recruits, i'm sure he had a hand in, with 10 leaving, the team now is almost all his accomplishments and work. It is my opinion that we need someone with a D1 pedigree if we are serious about women's Basketball. The AD has yet to hire that person in his last 2 attempts. I do not believe we are currently a top 300 Team? (357 plays). A glaring Stat last year we ranked 339 in assist-to-turnover ratio, with 580 TO to 298 Assist. Should be a focus? We just had another 26 TO to 8 assists game with Green Bay. I'm losing confidence we will ever get there.

Can someone give me a list of the quality Head Coaches, Assitant Coaches, Athletic directors, and Presidents that have been successful at UND, without UND ties in some form..... I will wait...

So we opened it up @UNDmhockey to the whole world! But found that the best coach, was on our staff! The same staff that we felt needed to be fired! @NorthDakotaAD @UNDpresident a $500,000 lesson. #UNDProud đ¤

I will give you a little background on this. The idea came from me, through a Golfing Buddy Malcom Rodacher. Malcom's daughter went to College in Nebraska, and he attended a Football game against KU in Lincoln where they did this. As someone also said this was not new to KU, other opponents have done similar. When he told me of the story, I relayed that to Paul Collins our UND Associate AD at the time and he agreed it would be a fun stunt. The REA did a fantastic job with the simple and plain KU introductions (obviously Jeff got a standing ovation). Then REA did an abbreviated light show, Vegas Style, and Played the Wizard of Oz Video on the Scoreboards, ending with Dorthy saying "Toto, I don't think we are in Kansas anymore" Roy Williams and the Crowd did have a good laugh, and enjoyed it. We were up for a while, then came crashing to earth, we had a good squad with Jerome Beasley, Jeff Brandt and others, but lost 108-77 in 2001. The package was set up as a home and home, UND played at Fog Allen and lost there also 92-61 in 2000.

Coach Paul Sather is not the problem... UND decided to enter the D1 Basketball sports horizon 350 Schools, then they need to invest into it. We have inadequate and dated facilities compared to other D1 institutions, I'm not even sure we can compete with our pier Schools like NDSU, SDSU, USD, OR in the Summit, and definitely not against the likes of Creighton, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin. We need Locker Rooms, Weight Rooms, Study Areas, Film and Media Rooms, Entertainment Areas and more... Our Collective Coaches Salary and Support Staff Budget is most likely under 500,000. D1 Hockey is a regional sport at best with only 60+ Schools participating, we have a State of the Art Arena, Locker Rooms, Training Areas, Film, Media, Entertainment Rooms, Kitchen for meals, Study Areas, Weight Room, Practice ice and more... Our Collective Coaches Salary and Support Staff Budget is probably over 1.5 million dollars +... Bottom line is improve the areas that need improvement, more kids will come, they will stay, we will win. Need to invest in the program to grow it, If Hockey never had Mr. Engelstad to invest starting back in the 80"s our program would never have reach the National Acclaim and heights it has. We will never be a Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, but with some added investment by fans, alumni, UND it can be a solid Mid Major type Institution.

Fan upgrades are one thing. Those are nice but we need players! Our facilities for players need to be drastically improved if you want better talent. Example would be UND Hockey, we have tradition coaching and history, but if we didnât have the Ralph? The players amenities, locker rooms, lounge, media film room, study rooms, kitchen ect. ⌠in conjunction with the arena, and fans help draw the best D1 players in the country to UND.
-
My kitchen is bigger then the Betty locker rooms! Very poor for student study areas, weight rooms, media rooms ect⌠Betty was built as fast as they could for a asset in time for the World Juniors Hockey, itâs biggest asset was it was tied to the Ralph and Olympic Ice. You want better players, need to pay more money for better facilities, put money into your program and they will come. Just my opinion

NDSU scored 17 points off turnovers UND scored 0
