  1. That is pretty good.
  2. Mankato is just a team I don't like playing, simply because they play us so well the majority of times. There have been a few times when we blow them out or make for a somewhat easy win, but most the time, they play us tough. The good thing is that we tend to play them better in their barn than in our own barn. Not sure why that is. Anyone else's B2 Network freezing out? Not sure if it's the feed or the station doing it.
  3. I have a hard time believing Mankato won't be ready for us. I tend to think that they think of us as more of a rival than a lot of other teams, probably excluding Minnesota. Our games with Mankato are always physical, and I think we really have become a rival game for them.
  4. Hakstol's pre-game comments: Hopefully with hard work, you get a few bounces and breaks, and over the past few games, we've worked hard and got some bounces and breaks. Don't think it's ever been about confidence. Sometiimes, it takes some guys to get comfortable. Since Xmas, our guys have felt good about our play. One or two guys that were a little bit off each night, but we've gotten some good solid play from our veteran players on defense. Each of the young guys have done a good job. LaPoint will be back in tonight. It's important for him to get back in after the injury. Marto is available and may play tomorrow night. They'll be hard fought game. A little bit of history between these two teams. I expect it to be a physical series. We just have to play to our strengths. Bottom line, we just have to win a hockey game and take a step towards where we want to be. We have to make sure we're a good solid physical team. That doesn't mean we run around looking for checks, just finishing checks when they're then. On defense, we want to be tougher against the other team in front of our own nets. We did well with that last week. The Mavericks are another team who do that, so we'll have to do it again tonight. With Tech, they had 4 or 5 guys down low, loosening things up high. Minnesota St. is pretty much the exact opposite, keeping their wingers up high. We'll have to play well, and when our defensemen can jump in, they need to do that, but be ready to jump back in a hurry. These guys play well, and have four balanced line who transition the puck well and skate well. It will make for a good match-up. Just to take a look at it, we put Trupp on with Oshie and Duncan. Wednesday, we went back to last week, but as fate would have it, Miller is out with the flu, so we're going back to where we were on Tuesday. I think he's excited about the opportunity, so I think he'll go out and play well. He adds a lot to the line. He thinks ahead of the play and creates puck possession, especially for a smaller guy. He has that uncanny ability to get the puck back, which you don't normally say about smaller players. Vande Velde has really become a kingpin for us, really quietly. He has a pretty big responsibility for our team right now, especially on a big game like this weekend. He's a guy who can really separate himself from others. Bottom line in goaltending, Phil needs to play better than the guy on the other end of the rink. I think he has a big challenge ahead of him tonight with Zacharias playing as well as he has been.
  5. Have to wait until after the game to make that determination, or at least, IMO.
  6. This should be a fun line to watch. I think most of us have been waiting to see this the majority of the year.
  7. Matty Watkins
  8. And that was totally uncalled for!!! The majority of fights that I've seen Drew in is when he's sticking up for teammates. There's nothing wrong with that. Drew's a big boy and can take care of himself. I'm sure he has enough sense not to go against anyone who would pummel him.
  9. However, with the frequency that it's been occurring in the past few months, they would be deleting posts left and right. Is it really necessary that our moderators, who provide this wonderful source for discussion for us, put in the extra man hours that would be needed to clean up the board? Wouldn't it be easier for people to simply start treating one another with civility? Rather than bashing players, give criticism in a constructive manner? Regardless of if players read the board or not, we as fans will discuss their play. It happens in the workplace, at the bars, and anywhere else in Sioux territory. I'm pretty sure that they know when their play is below normal, and know when they need to pick it up, so I doubt we'd be bringing anything new to their world. People need to follow a simple concept...respect. Yes, there will always be some good natured ribbing, as many of us have gotten to know one another over this board over the past years, but when you cross the line, then this board becomes about as valuable as all the other crap sites out there where people will say anything as long as they're hiding behind their computer monitor. The majority of us are Sioux fans, so we do have something major in comment. I've always said that debate is good, and it's what makes us unique as a human race. I, for one, miss reading PCM's weekly reports from the Coaches Show. He's been around since the beginning, as you can see, he's the 4th member number, behind the moderators. He knows Sioux sports as well as anyone and has a lot of inside information that he can let the rest of us know. And if the nature of this board as of late is pushing him away, something needs to change.
  10. It does seem to be lately.
  11. You actually started out on this board with some insightful posts. However, it appears your main mission now has become to stir the pot. There was a time when people could really learn a lot about Sioux Sports on this board. Now, it appears we've lost some of those posters and to find that information, you have to read through 2 pages of squabbling and dribble. Perhaps we should have one area of the board where people can complain all they want about other posters and the other nonsense we see so often now, and the remainder of the board could actually stick to the topics on an adult level. Of course, we could just have that without the additional area too! There's a concept!
  12. And he still posted a few shots in that game. The Regional placement doesn't scare me. In the past three years, if we've proven one thing, it's that we know how to win in the Regionals! It's that damn Semi curse we have to break!!!
  13. Great Story!!! I work with kids with mental retardation and it is amazing the things they can remember. I have one who can identify nearly any song I play in the classroom, but is unable to say his ABC's. I also met and chauffeured around the "Real Rainman" (Kim Peek) when we brought him to Grand Forks in 2003, and the information he knew was astonishing, yet he needed adult assistance in daily hygiene.
  14. Hak didn't say. He just said he wasn't feeling that great Friday night, and still wasn't 100% on Saturday, and he wanted to play someone who was 100%. Also said that Davidson had earned his ice time in practice.
  15. 2 years under Deano's tutelage! Could we ask for anything better???
  16. The other thing here is that DU could get a bad rap, because they have gotten both breaks. Some fans could start thinking, "The West Regional is in Colorado this year, and it looks like the WCHA is going to do everything they can to ensure that DU is in it." They could have at least let the boys play out the rest of the game last night. There was 51 seconds left or something like that, and than a 5 minute possible OT. Yes, a little extra playing time, but at least the points would have been decided in an honorable way.
  17. I was just wondering that yesterday too. Haven't seen him for a while.
  18. Wisconsin now up, 6-2. Sure glad I picked DU's defense for AZ's challenge!
  19. What is this, kindergarten?
  20. DU/Sconnie have about 5 players in the penalty box each. Didn't see what happened as I was watching SCSU/Minn. I'll post a score after this is all sorted out. Nevermind score, Farce already posted it.
  21. Great weekend for the boys!!! Great gift for the fans to see the stick salute!!! Need to maintain the momentum and practice hard all week, because Mankato always seems to give us a tough time. Celebrate this one, but don't get into trouble!!! GO SIOUX!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. TH gave Chorney the PSDoors Player of the Game, so he got one of them.
  23. What did I tell you last weekend!? I have a Mavis Beacon typing program I can send you that I use with my students.
  24. Hakstol post-game comments: Nice to see a whole lot of people still in the building waiting for the stick salute. Oshie had a big hit to set the tone early. I thought physically, we were good all night. They're a tough physical team and they laid their licks as well, but I thought we played a good physical game. Little plays that by the end of the game, you tend not to remember, tonight. Good play from Joe Finley, all 120 minutes. One of his better weekends. For him personally, one of his better efforts. We made a mistake, our coverage wasn't great on their first goal. The bench stayed strong and we went out and got one back. I thought we did a good job on closing it out from there. One or two bad plays, but overall good hockey. I thought we brought the puck up the ice really well, especially against a team like Tech. We cycled the puck well, really all weekend. All 5 guys involved. We've talked about it a lot over the past 5 or 6 weeks about the D not doing that good of a job on getting the puck out from up top. Our defensemen had to be a factor. It feels good. Don't know if it's a monkey off our back. We didn't even talk about a sweep. We talked about maintaining sole possession of 3rd place. That's what we can control. We knew if we came out and won a hockey game, we'd be where we were in the standings to start the weekend. Phil still had some tough saves. He was timely. It sums it up, the shot that T.J. blocked. Guys not willing to cave in defensively. That's the kind of committment it takes.
