  1. Commodore interviewed after the 1st OT in Carolina/Montreal game tonight. Good interview for Mike. He's not sporting the same hair-do as he was back in Calgary for the playoffs.
  2. I'm in the process of working on a Zach Parise highlight reel with a combination of goals from college and his first year with the Devils. No projected finish date, as I've just recently finished going through old games to find the highlights. It will most likely be pretty long, but I may post some of the more spectacular goals. Like I said though, no projected finish date, just something I've been working on for a while. Busy time of year right now (teacher-end of school year), so it may not be done for a while.
  3. It took my a while to find this clip in my collection, but I've finally located it (I moved this past year, so things got put everywhere...normally, I wouldn't misplace this type of footage). Classic Footage Classic Replay
  4. I watched Cherry during this bit as well. My take on it was that he wanted Canadian teams, such as Ottawa and Montreal to start selecting Canadian born players. He did use Lamouriello as an example as choosing American players, and the Wild selecting Minnesotan's. I didn't get the feeling that he was upset at the NHL as a whole, but rather the Canadian teams. Of course, it is Don Cherry, and he always seems to be upset with anything that's not Canadian. Calm down Don, the majority of NHL players are still Canadians.
  5. Maybe a regular place at the dinner table for Hak?
  6. Does Hak not have a "Must attend class policy?" I know Blais had that rule, and thought maybe Hak carried it over. I always remember seeing Deano showing up at some of my classes, to make sure O'Connell, Skarperud, and Hoogsteen were in class. Of course, Roche skipped, which led to the entire team doing stairs.
  7. It shows that most of our players came to the realization that playing for the Sioux is the best choice a player could make!
  8. Using this system, we (Sioux fans) would not have the opportunity to see some great players, who we've had the honor of watching for one or two years. Players such as Belfour, Hrkac, Z. Parise, B. Murray, and now Zajac. I'm sure there's more, but there's a few. As a fan, I feel honored to have watched these guys don the green and white, regardless of their time spent at the University. I did not want to see any of them leave, but have never disagreed with their choices. They need to do what is best for them. Look at Parise for example. As a player, was there anything left for him to improve on at the college level? Making the jump to the AHL was vital for him in his development as a player. It's pretty selfish for a person, or a university for that matter, to ask a player to put his career on hold for one or two years, simply because we feel they owe it to us. The coaches do spend a lot of time wooing these players in an effort to get them to come and play for us. However, they've wooed many players who didn't pan out too. Isn't that time wasted as well? It's part of the game.
  9. PCM hit the nail right on the head, and you shouldn't be feeling so down. You look at this year's last month and a half of the season, and it wasn't just the guys who could possibly leave, doing all the scoring. The guys we didn't expect as much from were coming to the surface as well. Kozek appears to have amazing skill, and with more playing time, I think he'll become a fan favorite. Not only can he shoot, but he can hit! Watkins and Duncan did come to play every night, and they're going to take on larger roles next season as well. Even if we lose the majority of those in question, the Sioux will still be a strong team next year. Stay positive, we won't be as bad off as a lot of people are thinking.
  10. I think it's amazing how Belfour holds GF so close to his heart after only playing here for one year. Sioux Family/Sioux Pride...it never leaves you.
  11. Can't remember which pro said it, but I recently heard someone talking about how special their college years were, simply because of the comraderie that is built through the years. He stated that at the NHL level, it's all a business, and where you may be somewhere one day, you may be somewhere else the next. Or perhaps it will be a teammate. The point of the story was the close relationships that are built through college years, simply because of playing together for those times, and those relationships don't occur at the pro level. It was definitely a positive for staying in school for 4 years. In regards to the best players leaving school early/how it affects a team. I seem to recall having a ton of talent in 1998 and 1999, and being one of the favorites to win the national title both those years. The following year, we lost a lot of the talent, but our team pulled together to win #7. Yes, we still had talented players, but we lost a lot of the top guys prior to that year. Talent doesn't win championships. Teamwork and chemistry are the key ingredients. Yes, I would like to see every Sioux player stay for all four years, but I know that's unrealistic. I do know that our program is resilient, and we'll field a team that will be a contender next year, as well as years to follow. Go Sioux!
  12. That, ladies and gentlemen, is one kick a$$ first post!!! I'm sure us common fans will talk about this one for years to come. As already stated, you're a class act Mike. You've shown it on and off the ice for 4 years, and you make us proud to be Fighting Sioux fans. I hope you always consider Grand Forks your home away from home. Don't be a stranger, as you'll always be welcome in the Forks.
  13. IMO, they'd be better off to drop Frazee and bring in Kangas.
  14. We all have faults.
  15. Matt Carle wins the 2006 Hobey Baker Award. Congratulations to all three Hobey finalists on great seasons. Now get to the Skills Competition!!
  16. The "Edit" button saves me all the time!
  17. For whatever reason, I believe Parise's statement that he'll be back next year. I think he wants to come back and redeem himself. He knows, more than anyone else, that he didn't play to his capabilities yesterday, and definitely has something to prove to the college hockey world. As far as the rest of the players, I'll just wait and see. Bochenski virtually guarenteed he'd be back too last year, and darted for the pros right before the season started. People can and will blame Parise for yesterday's loss. That's part of being in the spotlight as an athlete. Whether it's right or not to blame him for the loss, is not up to me. I personally don't see it being all Jordy's fault. Did he play his best game? Obviously not. However, the first shot he was partially blinded on. The third shot was not his fault at all. The only goals I felt he should have made were the 4th and 6th goals. Just my opinion though. Do I blame Jordy though? No. Everyone is going to play a bad game. Yeah, it sucks that it happened at this time of year, but it did. Perhaps people who place all the blame on one person should put on the pads, get out on the ice, and try to do better. The guy has been the backbone to the team all year long. Because of him, we we're in the position we were in at the end of the year to make this run. Without his great play earlier in the year, we would have all been at work yesterday afternoon, watching highlights of some other team play Boston College or whoever. I'm a Sioux fan. I love Fighting Sioux hockey. I know that we will not be blessed with a national championship every single season, and I do not expect one. What I expect is a team to show Sioux Pride every time they step on the ice, and this team did that yesterday. The offseason has now begun, and everyday from now until October, I will be a little happier as we're one day closer to the beginning of a new year of college hockey. I also know that this loss is hard for people to take, but there will be bigger and better days for us hockey fans in the future.
  18. Melrose started the game, appearing to only know who Toews was for the Sioux. He was still talking about Oshie's play in the Wisconsin game tonight. Another great game for T.J.
  19. My exact feelings. The boys showed Sioux Pride until the final horn.
  20. How about we get more players with the Lee Goren attitude, wanting "one more kick at the can!"
  21. I was a lot more upset after that loss too. That was a tough one to swallow, and this one is easier for me to take than that one.
  22. Sorry, can't agree with you on that. At the beginning of the season, I didn't like the idea of him being selected as team captain. However, he definitely showed leadership skills this year and changed my opinion of that. He didn't play any worse than anyone else. Greene took a terrible call in last years final, but I didn't look down on him either. Matt's done a wonderful job this year, and where I do see him leaving the team, I really would like to see him back for his senior year.
  23. I don't think I was ever worried about that. Where Schneider was coming into the tournament hot, I did watch him throughout the WJC tournament, so I knew he wasn't all that!
  24. It's a tough loss, but I, personally, didn't expect this team to be in the Frozen Four this year. Right now, I'm thinking back to my feelings in November/December, and they really gave us a good show this past month, and I'm thankful for that. Look for the positives! Have to love Fighting Sioux Hockey!
  25. They'll be crying tomorrow after Robbie is cramping all night. Maybe he's taking his Midol now.
