I thought the whole reason I’m moving to CBS Sports was to allow the weekend tournament

I heard that the tournament was already set for this year when the deal was made.  They said expect next year to see different dates for the tournament.   Its always been on Tuesday to fit in with ESPN to broadcast it along with the conference championships.

  2. I just feel bad for the guys on this team.  We have a really good fun team to watch and they cant even get some of respect other schools are giving their players and fans.  I can see why recruiting here for basketball is so difficult.   I just feel like from school, the Betty and the students have not given this team any respect or love.  If They make the NCAA tournament it will be way more coverage for the school then any hockey championship would.   The first four round got 5.41MM viewers, the first round teams got 8.4MM viewers.   The hockey Championship game got 808,000.

Just watched Mary vs UMD in NSIC tournament. Zander was clutch all game and down the stretch in a 83-75 win. 3s, fadeaways and FTs. Had over 20 points.

As @gfhockey would point out..."We didn't need her".

Why would we need Miss basketball North Dakota when we have 4 star recruits from Michigan on our team.  I have to believe Zander isnt here because of coaching.   That Mary team would run us off the court.  I dont care where the recruits come from either.  I am just saying if we are going to take average to below average players from Michigan, might as well take a chance on some local girls.  NDSU just signed another star from Wyzetta.

A handful of them joined in on the joke and acted like a bunch of teenagers.
It appeared they took offense to the UND football team's antics (which is no different than they have done at any other game) and decided to one up them and act like high schoolers. Not a good look for some of those parents/fans.

I seen that too and didnt think it was a good look.  I dont condone that behavior, but I also wouldnt mind seeing a little more passion in our fan base for basketball either.

I'm glad you're sure; it does.

Great comment troll. Go back to the hockey board.  The comment was not about bashing hockey but about trying to put the same effort into every sport.

Good job marketing crew.... Way to get a crowd into a game.. Instead of as half Court shot for some money Instead remind the crowd of all the drunks killing people driving drunk.... #operationzerofalalities

Or even better having trivia. Nothing gets a crowd going more then trivia. I'm sure the hockey intermission has trivia between periods.  Also thank god for our football players trying to get the crowd going. Our actual cheer leaders do absolutely nothing to get the crowd going. They want to look pretty and do some dance moves. Our team deserves better. The Hawk use to go up into the crowd take pictures interact with the fans.  Even the band can't get the crowd into like it use to.  Along with the horrible change in seating the Betty sure has not improved.

I'm sure the SDSU fans that made the trip up saw what a joke we are for basketball.  SDSU has a true advantage for their players in Brookings.

No, we just think you're not very smart.

Coming from a hockey idiot I'll take that as compliment.  Any idiot that thinks Sather is a great coach has obviously taken to many pucks to the head

    Heh?

You think he had some great division one players when he started? I can start with the kid from Montana.  Most of the players that left all went to division 2 schools. Kind of tells me not great division one recruits .

    ...well...

Didnt I say before that I think Sather is a nice guy and maybe even a players coach?  That doesnt mean he is a good coach.  Most homers on here look at everything with rose colored glasses.

  10. It does when it comes out of Treyson's mouth he didnt wait for any other offers.  I was wrong it was his grandfather that played.   I follow basketball all year around not just during the season.

This is my school, I got to follow some legacy at least,” Eaglestaff said. “They’re division 1, I’ll get a full ride without my mom paying for school. That’s all I want to do cause she did so much for me. I got the offer in, I think it was January, definitely it was January or February. Then I asked my mom, cause I was freaking out, I was like, ‘should I just commit now?’ And she was like, ‘no you got to wait. What if you want to go bigger or something like that?’ I was like, I wouldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. I love the coaching staff there and everything else.”

What about the fact that Omot and Eaglestaff are still here?!?  Maybe you're right (I doubt it) that Eaglestaff only committed to UND because of his legacy...but a coach he doesn't want to play for would have chased him out awfully quick.  Recruiting isn't only about who you bring in each year...it's about who you KEEP here.  That's where we are nowadays in the world of college basketball...

Since a 6 win season in 2021-22, we've improved to 13 wins, and now 17 and counting, with a core of the team being made up of sophomores and juniors (not sure what's left for COVID years).  If you look at Sather's career trajectory this isn't unfamiliar territory for him.  His approach seems to require patience...which I'll admit I wasn't sure we'd have being a D1 program.  That said...he's won everywhere he's been...and the arc is looking good for the program.  Hope we have a big finish to the season and are talking extensions at the end of the year (because we don't want to lose him).

And Eaglestaff isnt leaving he said he is chasing his uncles record and Omot...  I would be surprised if he is still here next.  I hope he is because next year would be fun!

Like his recruitment was so great before and player retention was awesome... Do you only follow hockey?   I am saying by Treyson having his legacy and coming here he attracted better players that wanted to play with him.   I am not saying Sather is such a bad guy that players want to jump ship.  I am saying he was lucky to get Treyson and things fell into place.  Up until then he didnt show he knew how to recruit division one players and many players left the program.  I have still not seen that we are running plays.  Looks more like we have athletes that know how play and are good at one on one.  I really like the team we have now and next year I think it will be even better.  But if you give all credit now after 4 bad years to Sather I am not sold yet.

My guess Trey and BJ had major influence on Eli.

I would say Sather's biggest recruitment was Eaglestaff and he got BJ and Eli here.  The only reason Treyson came here is because of his uncle that played here.  So No extensions for Sather.  Most of our good fortune started with Treyson's commitment and it had nothing to do with Sather.  Go back and look at the video when he committed.

Once again for the comprehension impaired: at no time do I mention Mal or UND. My definition of “hell of a coach” is different than others is all.

I'm wondering who is comprehensive impaired here ??? Someone who bad mouthing a coach who took a team that had 5 years of losing to second in the Summit????  Those impaired I guess think that is bad.  He took over a team with none of his own players.  You must be a hockey player commenting on basketball.  Or just a Homer und fan that can't look independently.

That 55-58 record at NDSU coming into the season is hella good

Jory inherited a many years dumpster fire. He turned that program around in a short amount of time.  It takes a couple years to establish a culture and recruit the right players. He now has done that. He gets some of the best area recruits. They are long and athletic.   Unlike Mal who didn't inherit as big a dumpster fire and has Made it into a dumpster fire.  Recruiting Michigan and getting selfish players that play with no heart. Let alone know how to play basketball.  I'm a UND fan but I'd take a Jory any day over what we got !
