  1. There will never be an FBS UND. UND can’t afford the current D1 sports model. NDSU has an athletic budget of about 27 mill, UND 28 mill. UND has an extra million to run the hockey program? Mankato, Mn Duluth & St. Cloud are all D1 hockey D2 other sports and they are all competitive, especially in hockey. UNDs profile is about the same as those schools except UND is trying to fund a full, but shrinking, slate of D1 sports. Over the past 10 years the success of UND has not kept pace because UND can’t afford their business model Because of the obvious funding shortfalls I think UNDs football future is continued mediocrity, non scholarship or simply dropping it like Omaha They recognized the futility of the failed business model and dropped football.
  2. Athletic budgets this size aren’t successful with a full slate of D1 sports and hockey. All the others are still D2 with hockey. Omaha dropped football to properly fund their other sports. UND has already dropped a lot of sports and cut back on their Big Sky adventure by retreating to the cheaper Summit and MVFC. There are fund raisers for basic safety equipment. Coordinators and other staff coaches get their start here and the head coaches aren’t very successful. The pay scale is too low. The budget model doesn’t work. It needs 2-5 million more to compete in D1 hockey and football. There isn’t going to be any FBS move. It would be a disaster. The admin would never approve of the move unless something material changes.
  3. I don’t think there is going to be any huge changes. It’s looking more and more like NDSU will get an FBS invite of some kind. The rest of us might rearrange the deck chairs a bit. Their success on the field is the result of that entire athletic department transforming itself into a wall-to-wall juggernaut. Their success is huge financially, with the fans and on the field. They have been building it for a generation or more and it’s really growing into something very impressive and primed for growth. Some people are starting to wonder if UND will even keep football. The Omaha model for athletic budgets this size is more workable if you want D1 basketball. otherwise a full slate of sports using the UMD model of D1 hockey D2 football and other sports is successful for the schools using it. We just don’t have the money to compete at this level in all sports. By trying to do it, all sports are suffering.
  4. No he doesn’t but he does go on the radio promoting the idea because UMs program could use the shot in the arm 30,000+ Bison fans could give it. The Gophers of course are embarrassed and this is a one sided conversation. The one-sided nature of the conversation reminds me of the new nickel trophy talk. NDSU isn’t interested in the least. They have a national fan base, The Dakota Bowl, playoff rivalries, the Frisco games and trophy’s, huge rivalries with JMU and UNI. These are real rivalries grounded in football not discontent. UND spends its time trying to force some kind of trophy game down everyone’s throat while NDSU is winning NC trophies in historic proportions while garnering a lot of positive national attention. They are also commonly mentioned in the FBS expansion talks. What is the difference? Why are they enjoying a decade of unprecedented success and we can barely win a game over that same time period?
  5. NDSU is talking about the USBank Stadium. Reusse is calling for an annual opening game between the Gophers and Bison. First at TCF. Next at USBank for NDSUs home field. Gophers would split gate with Bison because USBank is larger. NDSU is also talking about using larger stadiums for premier FCS matchups. We get offered Target field in Nov. I think we are pretty far behind the 8 ball on this except for hockey.
  6. Let’s put a joint on the UND side and a 2 cups of coffee on the NDSU side. If. SDSU gets in the act their side will have a can of Joose. What does USDs side get?
  7. Is caffeine as bad as pot? Can you deal caffeine like the pot dealers sold pot? Are pot dealers drug dealers? Is it illegal to sell caffeine?
  8. We laughed at the Slummit. Now it laughs at us
