  1. Sickatoka, Do you have to have "advice" for everything? First it was the volleyball player and then it's this. Sometimes it is ok to just take a post and read it and appreciate it. Remeber, Silence is Golden.
  2. How am I putting words in your mouth when you clearly compared Maria to Blais?? Anyway about Maria being a successful coach, her record at this time is 110-107 (.506) and even worse is her NCC record 37-73 (.336). That's atrocious. Anyone can get wins in volleyball if they schedule the paraplegics. Some may call this a down year, but it is the end of the year and anyone who has ever coached knows that this is where teams are supposed to come together and play well. Freshmen aren't really freshmen anymore, they have basically a year under their belt. UND volleyball is 1-12 in their past 13, that isn't pulling it together, that's a lost cause. Fully Funded and still can't do squat. Seems to me that the logical thing for the athletic department to do would be to reevaluate this situation. Take some of these scholarships and move them somewhere to a sport that is somewhat successful. Yeah sure there will be a drop off then, but seriously how much worse can it get? You don't have to have the most money to win (obviously). Even if you get players that are less talented, coaching should make up for that. Teach the right things and you become successful, ask the Twins. 8-15 overall (0-8 in the conference) That's repulsive.

    UNO

I agree completely in that we should have more designed QB plays, we have the athletes to execute and they keep the defense guessing. I think Manke will see the field this week, but according to a source close to Bowenkamp (his roommate) he is ready to go and will probably see some action this weekend (besides PAT).
  4. Sicatoka, I cannot believe that you or anyone else would ever put the UND hockey team and Dean Blais in the same vicinity as UND Volleyball team and Maria Bruggeman. Have you seen the players out of the court? The want to be there as much as they want cancer. Sure we can argue that the past few years that we had Tuve and Hanson and Glassman, but what's done is done. Recruiting should reload, but apparently 16 girls on 8 full rides can't get it done??? As far as patting Maria on the back, why do you think that Glassman and Heltemes didn't play this year? It wasn't because they couldn't. UND Volleyball is an absolute debacle right now, and we cannot blame in on being young. As someone said earlier, Mankato had 1 sophmore and 9 freshman. 9 FRESHMAN! Coaching is what makes a young team good. If one were to look inside the volleyball media for this year, you will find a word association with Maria Bruggeman. There were 3 responses that I found rather interesting. 1. Last years team- Fun, successful (those aren't the exact words, but thats what it said) 2. This years team- Young, inexperience, should be a challenge 3. Jason Holt- Looking for love (laughs) a good guy that knows what he wants What the hell are those all about? True, last years team was fun and successful, but what about this year? Did she know going in that they were brutal? And about Holt....looking for love??? What about his knowledge of volleyball and coaching abilities? It all seems too interesting

    Manke

iramurphy, I think that we have had this conversation many times. I disagree with any idea that any of the Mankes would even consider transferring. Knowing them as I do, they are all good team players and are willing to contribute to the team when the time comes. Every player in the UND system, Manke or not, has to wait their turn (except Dressler). Sucka, make it less obvious next time that you just made a name and post from it. Especially in a Manke forum and having that name, or by creating it some days ago and then posting from it. Try harder next time. Manke will start this weekend and probably, struggle a little bit in the beginning, but who doesn't have the jitters for their first career collegiate start? I'd say by mid-1st early 2nd quarter those feelings are behind and he leads and controlls the offense effectively. He made a winner out of average teammates in high school in DL, he will probably/hopefully do the same here. We're all pulling for you Reed. (You know who we are)

    Bowenkamp

This is where my post is. Gotta make it simple just in case any NDSU fans decide to chirp.
  7. It's about time Manke gets a legitimate chance to run a game from start to finish. All he has done up to this point in his UND career is the equlivalent of "mop up" work that a relief pitcher would do in baseball. If you wanna know what I think about Manke, refer to the Bowenkamp thread on here and go down and read what I have to say. If anyone has any comments or questions on that, post it and we can hopefully have a nice debate or agreeance. (Hopefully no Bison fans would get in on it, because it would be nice to have an intelligence conversation, rather than talk with a rock)
  8. There is no reason for me to double up a post. I posted, a couple weeks ago, under the Bowenkamp injury thread. See it. It says everything that needs to be said. Sucka knows what he's talkin about with the Manke viewpoint. He needs more PT than Belmore, but whoever is playing needs to keep us in the win column.
  9. My source is her aunt, validate that.
  10. According to a source close to Kimbrough, she is not interested at all in going to the U of M. Also, after visiting Northwestern and ISU, she has thrown out the chance of going to Northwestern also. So it is down between ISU and UND. According to this same source, the chances right now are about 25/75 respectively. Of course, being a Sioux fan, I would love to see her come here, she is a legitimate threat with the ball and has the size to play in the NCC. As a bonus she is lefthanded, but can handle the ball with both hands well, and that could surprise a lot of teams in her first year. The only thing that I am scared about is that she will become highly publicized this year because of her breaking the all time scoring record (which she will do) to the point that other D1 schools start to look seriously into her and are willing to offer her a good chunk of money. UND cannot play in that field. I will let everyone know more when I watch her play from on the court.

    Bowenkamp

Regarding Bowenkamp......The word that I've gotten is that his shoulder injury is rather severe and that he seems to be recovering well, but once he gets back on the field the same old injury just keeps popping up. I don't like his chances for playing within the next month, for that reason. Also, what he has said is that the injury affects the "zip" passes. He can throw for distance pretty well with the injury, but to throw the drag route across the field, or something similar, he can't get it there as fast without hurting himself. Doesn't look good.

Although it may be true that Belmore has more game experience than Manke, what I have noticed is that Manke's QB skills are strikingly similar to a guy name Kelby. I'm not saying that he is up to that standard yet, but he throws a good ball, but when pressured he has the speed and more importantly the vision to find a gap and make something happen. Having played against DL in high school, though none of the Mankes, their offense relies of a mobile type QB, and you know that his dad, who played QB in his college career has had those boys throwing a football for a while, has taught them a little something. I think that Manke just needs a chance, he knows the game tremendously and is/ will be a big asset to Sioux football sometime in the hopefully near future. Belmore has done nothing that impresses me expect for the one game. His throws are so inconsistent, and that is not what any football team needs. As far as Carney, I have not ever seen him play, but the guy is 6'6" (or so) and from what I've heard is a drop back QB. I'm not sure what his chances of playing in the next 2 years though.
  13. Yeah, there's no doubt Weber has some skill. He is also one of few UND receivers this year to be unafraid to go across the middle of the field and that is very valuble.
  14. It is a rarity to see UND basketball players, especially women, quit, but the spat was severe enough to constitute her never playing here again. I have not heard anything about her transferring anywhere however.
  15. The spat had nothing to do with Glick's knee injury, in fact she is still rehabbing it in UND facilities. The team will be very young and IMO Megan Glynn will need to be the one that steps up the most followed closely by Carissa Jahner. Megan is a tall girl, but has trouble scoring. Jahner on the other hand, can shoot, but she needs to be able to handle the #2 guard position with assuming Mahlum at point. It will be interesting to see how things pan out, especially if teams start doubling Boese, who will step up?
  16. Glick is not planning on playing this year. All I will say is that she had a spat with Roebuck and is not returning because of it.

    Dressler

    No......Equipment managers don't do anything
  18. Nucleus

    Dressler

I think it goes without saying that Dressler has some serious big play ability, but there are other guys that can get a lot of things done. Dressler's size is what could come back to haunt him. Don't get me wrong, he's a hell of a player, but what about someone like Tony Hermes. He's one of the deep guys on the kickoff, he's on the field for punt and punt return teams, he plays the ever-confusing monster back on defense, what else could be done? The only thing he has to work on is keeping his helmet on, and that new face turf burn. Nice work Hermes!
  19. atc, How can you say that about riding pitchers arms? I know what you do for a profession, but in baseball you have to ask and respect the opinion of the player himself as far as how he feels. Have you ever played baseball? JJ is at least 16 months off of major injury and Ziegler wouldn't play his stud if he didn't feel that he was at least 95%, no coach would. Also, I cannot believe that you can criticize Ziegler for now having some sort of rotation. Do you think he has no idea what he is doing? I don't play for him, never had, so don't think that I'm just patting his back. Know the sport you are talking about and how it is coached before you attempt to say something intelligent about the sport. Greatly appreciated!
  20. Having seen both Langen and Kimbrough play while reffing them, I agree that Langen has great hands. She is however, not very quick up and down the court. Right now it isn't hurting her because she is playing in NW MN, but when it comes to the NCC I don't think that she will be able to keep up right away. Kimbrough, on the other hand, it arguably the most athletic girls player in the state. Assuming she's healthy all year next year I think that Megan Taylor's scoring record will not stand. She will probably go D-1, but we can hope that she comes here. It will be tough to get her. P.S. I had a EGFSH vs. BGMR game earlier in the year with Sonstelie and Kimbrough and BGMR was the winner of that one for two reasons....A: Kimbrough had 37 in that game, because B: Sonstelie was in foul trouble. It was a battle in the middle with those two, but Sonstelie didn't impress me. Good thing she is going to that "other" school.
  21. Everyone knows that a team can only be as good as it's equipment manager. Who else would the team look to when it is in dire need of the essentials? The team certainly would not function without a capable Equipment guy. That being said it is obvious that Lon A. Carlson is the number one EQ guy in UND, especially recent UND, history. HE molded, litterally, the 2001 NCAA Champion Fighting Sioux Football team.
  22. UND will have a tough time recruiting Kimbrough I think. I've reffed her (BGMR-Sacred Heart) and she lit up Sonstelie for 33 who is going to NDSU. Kimbrough is tough, and assuming she doesn't get hurt, I've got to believe that she will go D-1, although reportedly she has some alligence to UND. That would be key to get her. Bagaason on the other hand, I reffed her this year too, should be a keeper for UND. She isn't big enough to go D-1, but she is lights-out. One of the better female ballhandlers I've ever seen, and she's cash from outside. Langen, in my opinion will have a tough time in the NCC, that's if she doesn't mold out well. She's smooth and dominant, but that's in NW Minnesota. She's tough and probably a good recuit, but it will be interesting to see what she ends up as.
  23. Are you kidding Cratter? NDSU-Football School?? Not in the 2000's. When was the last time the Fargodome hosted a playoff game, or when was the last time the "new" champions lounge was used, or what was your 2002 record? NDSU's move to D1AA should have been made in the 80's when they were actually decent, not now. Go ahead and keep patting yourselves on the back for that though. As far as Sioux fans wanting to be NDSU, wow. I'm sure that there are a lot of teams that would love 1 home football game and then have to travel 1500 miles to their next closest game.....feel the sarcasm. Thats ridiculous. Good luck generating revenue from that one home game, that's D-1 material. Football School--nice. Do you (NDSU) have Miami and Florida State and Ohio State on the schedule next year for football? I thought that you were big time for going D1. How bout Grambling, at least they are D1AA.....no on that one too. I do agree with you guys on one thing though, no one wants to play NDSU. Except that you think that is because you beat Montana---good job, golf clap. The truth of that matter is that other teams have no reason to schedule you. It is worthless to play a provisional D1AA team. The only thing that can do is hurt that team. Good luck with those 30 more useless football scholarships that can't even get the top RB for ND. How bout your actually good women's basketball team? Do they have UCONN and Tennessee on the schedule yet?.......No on that one too huh, that's to bad. Good luck scheduling anyone worth while. Unless Ruley sleeps with Pat Summitt, it's gonna be tough to schedule Tennessee, nice work.
