Don’t know if Bale speaks for Mankato, but he seems to think Minnesota State would like to be in the NCHC.

I mean...they did apply to join a couple of years ago...so it seems like a reasonable assumption. Same goes for ASU

Zach Driscoll committed to UND. I may be wrong, but I think that puts the final nail in the coffin for Thome returning. I wish him the best of luck either way.

Part of me wonders if Driscoll would have committed to us if Thome just stayed for a 5th year from the start.

No, there has not. Neither of these are confirmed from what I can tell. And CHN doesn’t show where the info comes from so I’m going to wait until either the player confirms it or something more reputable than a chart on a website.

From now on all players must contact siouxforce19 before their transfer is considered official.

UND should bring in two goalies next season.

Johnson is coming in next season, and I think the coaches need to find another goalie playing juniors that can come in next year.

Looking at the portal UND needs a goalie that's not here for just one year, so Johnson can be in the backup role but not thrown to the wolves. Moe gives UND that cushion in net that Driscoll and Thome don't have, and I don't see why they would bring Thome back.

UND needs to stockpile goalies like they do with defensemen.

Getting NTDP goalie worked out and at most they are a year out from the U18 Team

I'd trust Driscoll or Thome in net more than a freshmen. I know some can compete day one but that's a big risk to take. If we can get a solid year out of Driscoll or Thome then we can remain competitive while the younger goalies develop.

Wait a minute now, WMU has never finished at the bottom (though we did have a couple of tough years early on finishing 7th).  The rest of the time we've usually been in the top 4, with a couple of 3rd place finishes in there.  I don't think Tech or Bemidji would have done any better than that.  We just haven't had any success in the post season (ncaas or frozen faceoff) and so it's easy to forget about those teams.

You're right. I should have been more specific and said Miami. WMU has fielded very competitive teams recently.

The thought experiment was more how the CCHA/WCHA would have faired if the NCHC never happened. I think they would have been still competitive (and better than the Big Ten) but it's hard to believe they would have been as successful as the NCHC.

Looking at our recruiting pipeline, other than the family ties, I don’t see any Minnesota recruits.  Are we just not getting kids we are recruiting, or have we focused more elsewhere? You would think Karl Goehring would be able to pluck a few from the Cities.  We used to get a few big guns here and there.  We need to challenge Minnesota and UMD for the top talent in the state, because Motzko can’t appeal to everyone.  Need to pull more guys like Hain and Frisch, but also pull top talent from the Twin Cities metro.

It's certainly not a good sign, but MN has 5 D1 schools and all of them are competition now.

I wouldn't mind seeing SCSU take the title as they were a late comer to the NCHC (along with us).  I'm really fine with anyone winning as long as it's not Mankato.  There is a very vocal minority of WMU fans who think we should have gone to the WCHA, and a WCHA national title will finally give them some positives about that conference to bring up.

Part of me sometimes wonders how we would have dated if we hadn't left the WCHA. The CCHA teams we took are often at the bottom of the conference as it is. MSU, MTU and BSU have had some decent teams that hit hard by the WCHA OOC record. But then I look and see how much the NCHC has dominated college hockey and those thoughts go away.

That being said, I'd love for the WCHA to get one. The NCHC clearly worked out very well for us, but I do still feel bad for our former conference members that got left behind.

I'm also ok with this scenario :-)

It would be kind of fun to see SCSU win it all while their ex-coach, going to what he thought was a dream job at Minnesota, gets to watch them hoist the trophy.

God, I hate the gophers.   :)

You don’t last as a coach by holding grudges.  Do we know why Motzko doesn’t like him?  Maybe his work ethic sucks, or maybe something worse.

Idk, I heard a rumor while I was a student that Hakstol ultimately went with Dell over Eidness because of a grudge. Not sure if it's true or not, rumors being rumors and all.

The rack rate for a years tuition at UND is $10K.  Ask any kid at UND right now who is strictly online, most not by choice, if they think they are getting a decent ROI on their tuition dollars and the answer is a resounding "no".

Having received one degree from UND in residence and a second online I'd say that UND has a good online setup, but the ROI is still better for in residence. There's just more to do and better access to resources and professors when you are there in person.

Admittedly though some of that is on me honestly. Life gets in the way a lot more when you're going to school part time online. This year probably has a lot more full time students online which could yield different results I suppose.
