Keep it 5x5 and they'll be fine.  Tough to believe that Senden is a top 6 guy, but that line was pretty good last night.

Get three points and get ready for the Pios next week.

For real. So many penalties by both teams yesterday.  Seemed like the whole game had someone in the penalty box

Hockey will make the tournament, they won’t win it with how this team is playing……

I'm not sure about that. Conference is a distant 3rd in OOC records so far this year. That could hurt our pairwise at the end of the season. As a conference we might not get our normal 4-6 teams in.

Long story short, we need to start sweeping opponents, ideally in regulation, or we're going to have a stressful February and March.

    Defensive

Positives we forced turnovers and we scored with the short field.

Except for 2-3 big runs we shut down the run.

negative is …. to obvious to say

    Special Teams

2-3 FG made not going to complain

We had 2 punts inside 10 so that was good

KO- thanks to the 2 penalties only 1 of 3 big returns counted (glaring issue today)

    offense

started flat, and picked up well. Great to see the Hogs get great push. Also that late 2nd quarter field goal set up by Tommy’s throw was huge.

It was great to see the offense step up when other parts of our game was slacking. The last drive is what winning teams can do to ice the victory.

Next week ISU Blue will be a battle, they were embarrassed and will be a different beast at their place. I’ll expect a 4 quarter game. Which we should win.

Got tickets to this game. It'll be my first time watching any UND team play in person in 9 years.

Three ways to stub your toe.  Avoid the traps and you will be 7-3 and probably a playoff team going into Fargo.

I plan to going to the ISU game. Let's hope they do better that week.

wonder how many ndac fans see "Gameday" and just assume ESPN still cares about Fargo?  haha

As a Terre Hautian I was pleasantly surprised at how close this game was.

We just witnessed one of the most exciting games in recent memory, even if it doesn't mean anything in the standings it felt good to win the shootout.

In one evening, we pretty much ruined Perets' chances for the Richter Award this year.

Agree about the game. Although one bad game shouldn't disqualify him from the Richter. Now, if we get 5 in Saturday night as well...

It’s mostly bad defense. We had this problem last year. This D core has been underperforming for a few years now.

Yeah, I'm conflicted about this game. I'm happy about 5 goals on 43 shots, but upset by 5 goals on 22 shots.

Which is a stupid reason to pick hawks! How much fighting hawk gear have those students bought with that mentality? Almost worst than picking a realistic name that could actually be marketed……

Yeah. Definitely short sighted, but I'm not sure it mattered. I think it was the consensus choice of many people in the voting round. Not many loved it, but it was acceptable to many. Ultimately I think it was the inevitable choice once we got to the voting because the committee eliminated any truly interesting names.

Nodak is a throw back to teams in the past that used that name on their jersey during the “flicker tails” period. To say it has no connection to the university because it is not a nickname is just as bad as other people rejecting the f hawks name.

remember people voted for the fighting hawks name because they saw a cool logo that someone put out there that resembled the Sioux logo. Obviously that was not the one we could use and now we are stuck with the one gray hair Schaffer thought would Be good.

Not sure how much of an influence it actually had, but I was told by a then student that he and his friends supported Hawks because of the acronym "How About We Keep Sioux."

To think this all could have been avoided if they let the top choice North Dakota be selected. I think after a while a nickname could have been chosen instead of being forced on the University so soon after retiring the Sioux nickname and logo.

If they had waited, then we could have gone with Fighting Moose after that moose broke into Memorial Stadium.

This would kill March Madness forever. The intrigue of the tournament would be gone. And the TV contracts they have been able to negotiate will be worth far less.

I would certainly lose interest, but it might be a wash for the NCAA. They'd likely get more money and more fans watching from the bigger conferences that will inevitably fill out the bracket.

Conversely, the NIT might become more interesting to watch.

I'd like to see just an independent tourney for an autobid. Don't try to shoehorn all these teams into existing conferences. The autobid is key to survival, but if independents can schedule geographically appropriate games they will he fine. For the Alaska schools the exempt games are a big bonus.  Alabama in the winter also a nice spot especially if it isn't every year

If all leagues went to 22 or 24 game conference schedules that would enhance things more. If the leagues all expand with the new teams interconference games decline and that isn't good for anyone.

Hmm. Perhaps they could form a conference of sorts that played bubble like tournaments with rotating hosts. Would cut down on the travel costs for the geographically separated schools.
