The Pandemic and the current state of the economy has probably played a big part in the number of butts in the seats. Last weekend, was a pretty good crowd. Base on some of the attendance numbers I've seen, UND is still doing well. UND is leading the nation, again, in attendance.

I'm surprised Wisconsin is second considering their record this year.

CHN is showing us at #12 PWR with a few games still to finish.

Still in the hunt to be sure but this losing streak stings for sure.

I don't have NCHC.TV this year but looking at the stats I've got to say that Driscoll has been under performing. How do we not have anyone better to put in net?

We stink right now. Hate to say it but it’s true. I’ve defended this team but they have to put a better product on the ice.

If we keep going like this we will drop out of the top 16 for pair wise and have to win the league tourney to get into the national tournament

We are not the team we were the last few years that's for sure. Makes me wish we had kept some players under the COVID rules but I get why we didn't.

That being said, I'm not too worried about missing the tournament just yet. We are still #11 in the Pairwise and Cornell is #14 now so this hurts but it won't tank us. We should still make the tournament but we definitely need to improve our defense and goaltending if we want actually do anything beyond making the tournament.

  4. The lack of transparency is troubling. I know some on the committee have said they had no other options, but to my knowledge nothing concrete has ever been released to the public. $60 million is a ridiculously high number given the operation budget of other nearby schools. With enough notice, a targeted campaign might of worked, but Kennedy said they could save all the program earlier in the year only to change his mind later. That delay likely prevented any sport, including WH, from raising the necessary funds in time for the next year.

Not sure why your links aren't working, but thinking it may be because you don't have enough posts... if that's a thing.  Anyway, your links are below.  Also, thank you for taking the time to do this.  There isn't a ton of press at this level so it's refreshing to see conference-wide coverage from another viewpoint!

As a Terre Haute resident I can confirm that ISU was pretty happy with their opening win despite the low passing yards.

Idalski didn't ruin the program, it was terrible before he took over and he made it a bit better.  It was never great.

True, but he did so with a large budget and international recruits. Meanwhile smaller schools in MN were just as competitive as us with a fraction of the budget and using local players.

Not a single comment about baeball or swimming & diving? Programs that actually had a history and tradition?

And glad to hear Chuck is hoping UND is anchored with a huge financial burden.

I agree that this often gets neglected and like women's hockey, the argument that native North Dakotans don't have an opportunity to compete within the state anymore. However like women's hockey, it was a very expensive sport to maintain.

Long term, the squeaky wheel gets the wheel. I suspect sometime in the future (I have no idea or guess as to win), UND will bring Women's hockey back. I'd be surprised if the same is true of swimming and diving.

I’m not convinced it wasn’t rigged. Ridiculous that Hawks one. Whatever I accept it now.

It was rigged in the sense that all of the good names were eliminated before the public vote. Hawks came out as the consensus vote. Using "Fighting" and the How About We Keep Sioux probably helped push it over the top.

The logo has grown on me a bit, but I'll be happy when they finally change it (whenever that may be).

Apparently he was touring hockey arenas this week -- those at Miami of Ohio, Notre Dame and Coralville, Ia.  DI hockey at Augie might actually happen.

And he didn't stop by UND? Slacker

  10. He's my favorite Wild player, but I wonder if Parise would waive his clause to play for Hak given how this last year ended?

To answer my own question, I doubt it, but it's interesting to think about. Same goes for Oshie or Toews. I doubt they'd willing leave their teams, but it would be interesting if they did.

He was approached through a recruiting firm about UCF is the way I understand it.  In my book, that's not "trying to leave".   I'll take a President that appeals to systems like CU and SUSF over the likes of Kupchella and Kelley every day and twice on Sunday.

I was told once (by a church pastor) that the only constituencies that are offended when it's found out that a boss is in mix for another job are those of a church pastor and a college president.

I see your points and if he was several years in I would agree. However with only a year or two into the job I would have liked to see some professionalism to offer the school more stability.

  12. Obviously it worked well tonight but I hope to see Parise get back in the lineup. I get that the younger guys have played well down the stretch he's done well the second half too.

  13. I can't say I would have made the same decisions he did, but he did well in his short time here.

That being said, he tried to leave a year after he got here, and then he got a job that had political ties and he got bit. What goes around comes around.

Unfortunate, this will lessen the sport as a whole and provide little entertainment. This was what I feared early on and it looks like it is coming true to some degree...

You have a point but this probably isn't the year to judge with all of the COVID craziness. Long-term I would expect things to even out a bit with some 3rd or 4th line players transferring to the smaller schools.

That being said, it was never the greatest system to lock high schoolers into contracts that were very difficult to get out of. Perhaps there's a compromise to be made like giving transfer students some sort of redshirt status? I'm sure the system will be tweaked again at some point in the future.

It's like having a good solid girlfriend and leaving her for someone and saying, "Hey no hard feelings, but I'm leaving ya."

Both are some of the most talented players to come through the programs, but at they end of the day they both said peace out to the Dakotas. If you promote it's like saying, "It's ok if you come for a year or two, ball out, and then leave." Unless it's for the league, I don't like anyone leaving for another school.

To be fair to Kenny, he was loyal to the coaching staff that recruited him. I think he would have stayed if the staff hadn't been gutted.

If all SCSU's guys come back I'll pick them to win the league.  Well coached, and gave a good UND team a run for their money every time they locked horns this year.

Way......way.........way.........too early (and likely wrong) predictions for 21-22 NCHC end game.

    1. SCSU

    2. Duluth

    3. UND

    4. Denver

    5. Western

    6. Omaha

    7. CC

    8. Miami

Denver always seems to be competitive despite their coaching carousel since George Gwozdecky (still not sure why they fired him, but it's worked out ok for them I guess).

That being said, I'd also put WMU over Denver. They've got a lot of talent.

In any case, it'll be another great year in the NCHC. Would be fun if we could send 6 teams to the tournament again!

Really surprised by the pushback from my post. I thought that would have been the general consensus. For those against it, is it both Bemidji and Mankato for Western / Miami? Would you support a Miami for Mankato switch?

The NCHC was formed to compete with the Big 10 as the fear at the time was you would have big schools with big budgets and they would basically take over power in college hockey. That never came to fruition. The Big 10 is on the upswing, but we have enough data to know that the original fears will never truly materialize.

Let's start over with Miami for Mankato. Who says no (outside of Bemidji and Western)? UND is trading one flight for a bus trip. NCHC Tournament there's one more team within close proximity.

It was your inclusion of BSU. They're a fun little school and I love the local game but they don't typically have the budget or mindset to compete in the NCHC.

Honestly, I don't expect any NCHC team to leave anytime soon. Some teams like Miami and CC have been struggling but I suspect they'll keep playing on.

If anything, I could see ASU and MSU joining as the 9th or 10th teams before anyone left or swapped out.
