So I guess Matthews is coming for a visit!
The USA U17s don't play in Fargo until mid March so he could be coming any time. This would be a player of Toews / Parise stature.
Maybe he, Jost, and Fabbro can commit together. Here's dreaming...
-
So who might the Sioux be looking at, here are a few that might fit the profile.
Tyson Jost
Dante Fabbro
Tanner Twente
Riley Simpson
Jonah Bischoff
Grant Mismash
-
I'm thinking Ben Blood.
Charlie Pelnik that didn't pan out.
-
That was a J.P. Parise connection.
That was always a blais connect. Who was the last hak shattuck pick up?

Is this Scott's kid? If so is he likely headed to UMD?

Exactly...the North Dakota Fighting Sioux...formerly the Tampa Bay Lightning.
sure, bring back bitching about Brian Lee...

I think we should only accept players as good as Toews. However reality is a not helping.

I think Rocco will be successful in the NHL because there will be more space for him because of the other talent on the ice. Finishing will be his biggest issue. I think one thing that hurt him was that he never really had a power forward to clear space, create lanes, and finish plays. In the NHL that won't be an issue. Very happy he came to UND.
-
I think Gersich is most ready.
-
sigh, but good luck... really sad he didn't ever have a year here like we know he could have had.

The devil wants Rocco to go pro... ;-)
-
Probably you and the rest of us are not D1 coaches. They see what we don't. LOL
It's is really hard to coach 6'3"...
One thing that we have been missing the last few years is a legit power forward, so this is a nice pickup.
-
I can agree from an offensive and skill perspective from the back-end but he has a long ways to go in the D-zone to be NHL ready in my opinion. He still can be taken off the puck quite easily and has trouble getting others off the puck. Another year and another 10-15 pounds would help tremendously.
Might need 2... ;-)

Anyone able to create a video from the famous 98-99 game where Woog called a timeout to quiet the crowd and it backfired and the Sioux had a huge comeback at the old Ralph?

Simonson does not have the build of a checking line forward, but neither does Rocco and he hits everything...
I think Luke Johnson leads the NCAAs in S.O.Gl. Shots on Glass.
-
And Mankato..... and Duluth...... and Bemidji........ and WISCONSIN.......
I read that to, but I think that they meant at the beginning of the WCHA. Not sure when Bucky came in, but the others were much later.
-
That worked well for Kristo!
Oh come on... He only played NAHL because that was where team USA played at the time, after team USA he played in the USHL... LaDue might be a better comparison.
-
Um... Shaw is a high school junior?
yup, meant Poolman...
-
I've read that next season could be one of the best recruiting classes we've had. and could be the top in the country? Which guys do we expect to see on campus next fall, and who do we expect to be the big contributor right away? Any high end goal scorers?
The Sioux probably have some of the best recruits in the nation lined up. Also I don't think we have seen nearly the best from Johnson and Murphy yet. This class lost Gropp and Lemieux and still might be the best in the nation.
Schmaltz is the blue chipper and potentially of the Stafford / Zajac / Greene caliber.
Poolman is already drafted and looks like one of the best 2 way D-men in the USHL.
Shaw, Olson, and Simonson are older players that have become better than projected. Think LaDue or Bozek from Denver. Simonson is compared to Gregoire and I would compare Olson to Rylan Kaip.
Cam Johnson is every bit as good as Clarke Saunders.
Yon, Gersich, Poganski, Gartner, and Wilkie could all be top line forwards, though we probably will not see them until 2015. Wilkie, Gersich, and Poganski are all scorers and the first 2 could potentially be here in 2014. I don't know about Yon and Gartner though Gartner seems more like a Checking line forward.
Assuming J. Schmaltz stays it will be a hell of a fight just to get in the lineup as a defenseman next season.

These Wisconsin games have danger written all over them. If the Sioux play like they did in the 3rd period they will sweep, but if they play like they did in the first it could go wrong. These non conference games are SO important a anything less than a sweep / 3 points may have negative national tournament implications.
