  1. Wonder who got the more skilled Pattyn.....UND or Vermont?

Pattyn has always been border line drop the gloves with someone. Maybe his brother is border line as well and they decide they may as well fight each other.

When was the last time we had a good old fashioned fight? Anybody? Gosh, was it Rylan Kaip?

Mario and he got his butt kicked...

  2. Well the good news is that the coaches will have alot to work on this week. The PP was brutal. Top 6 were good, but pretty dry after that. I think the 2 sitting seniors will be back next week unless there is an injury. For the freshman Johnson was great, looked like an NHLer. Ausmus played very well. The Defense was solid defensively but brutal on offense.

Outside of Schmaltz and Simpson any of the 6 could sit. I could also see coming back with 7 D and 11 forwards. Gotta say Mattson was really disappointing.

Grimaldi weights more than Tambellini, ouch.

Grimaldi needs to talk to Jason Blake about when to pass (rarely).

Parks and Cagguila look like the most improved players.

    Both goalies solid.

  3. He certainly would have played, but he wouldn't have played significant minutes this season. The loss will be felt more long-term than it will be this year. They have Collins and Glover coming in from the NTDP next year, but might have to pickup another 2014-2015 D commit if they lose more Dmen after this season than expected.

I think these are fair points. Losing a 2nd round draft pick always sucks, but Goldy will be OK.

  4. Nice recruiting class breakdown for this year

    http://overtheboards...iting-rankings/

Also this last paragraph stood out. As noted by many here next years class is pretty amazing if they all end up in GF...Go Sioux!

    ....

"There are also three weapons up front in Adam Tambellini, Luke Johnson, and Wade Murphy, as well as an intriguing, talented goaltender in Matt Hrynkiw being added to an already deep (but soon to be less deep) crease. And in case you’re wondering, Coach Hakstol’s class next year is literally shaping up to be one of the best in college hockey. Ever. So there’s that.

For a more in-depth look at this class, our North Dakota Recruiting Preview comes out October 1."

I agree with the bolded line. For UND assuming people show, this will be right up there with the Toews / Oshie class. Though there is no one near the level of Toews. Also when a ton of talent is coming like that I think it is easier to keep everyone coming.

  5. Jim's biggest impact came his Freshman year when there wasn't enough healthy bodies and he was forced into the action. Last year with more healthy bodies around you could tell the writing was on the wall for Jim. When he did play he seemed to be pressing, and wasn't the same player he was his Freshman year. Maybe you could attribute it to playing more relaxed as a Freshman because he knew he was going to be in the lineup come game time.

In the end, somebody already said it best. Late addition to the crew, wouldn't have played very much if at all this year, get to a place that will give him an opportunity to play.

Key thing was he played so well as an emergency fill, even out of position that he deserved to start for a D1 team, it just wasn't going to be UND. At Vermont will be a full year starter his senior year. Good for him he earned it. While we just found out I suspect Hak knew for a long time.

  6. Things are a little messed up because we did have Ausmus fall in our lap. As such I think that we might see Stecher playing some at forward. I think goal scoring will be our biggest issue this year. If we have any chance at making a run, I think Tambellini, Johnson, and Murphy need to combine for 35-40 goals. I just don't think we get much scoring from the upper classes.

I also would not break up the brothers.

  7. What's the deal with Murphy and Stecher....I thought those guys were solid? Murphy's numbers are eye popping why would he not even be a 7th rounder? Is he small?

    Size...

Remember Duncan, Panzer, Genoway, Spirko, Trupp and Hoogsteen were of a size that they weren't going to be NHL players. And yet I would take a team full of those guys. Genoway might still prove me off on that one. Also eye popping in the BCHL isn't quite the same as everywhere else...
