  1. Hockey is not like basketball where voters make the field of teams subjective. Statistical formulas essentially set the field. The Gophers will be in the tournment as they have earned that right. The recent struggles against VERY good teams may help Minnesota in early rounds of the NCAAs if they get sent out east. Minnesota may be the fifth best team in the WCHA but the sixth best in the nation right now.

I definately want to see Minnesota in the WCHA final five as it makes the atmosphere that much better. I'm sure that the WCHA won't mind the extra ticket sales for Minnesota games. Nothing makes the final five more enjoyable than thumping the home team... :p

  2. Brandt did great in Duluth, but I have to say that the defense stepped it up in a similar manner. Everyone was solid Matt Greene was a man among boys. Every defensman made outstanding plays. How about the block of a pass out front by a sprawling Bina, possibly saving a goal? I hope this is an indication of things to come as I don't see anyone beating the Sioux with 1 goal.

  3. I drove up from Rochester to see the game at Senser's and had a great time. The Sioux crowd was excellent. I think that they couldn't put the Gophers on many TVs because the Gopher game started later and by that time eveery set had a number of Sioux fans intensely watching.

  4. UMD does have a good team and I expect some outstanding games.

Duluth should really be aided by having the last change. This means the Sioux D will need to step up against the UMD #1 line. Smaby can't let anyone walk in alone on goal.

If the score stays close and ND can role four lines I expect that Duluth can be worn down. If Duluth scores early look for a repeat of the Gophers series.

  5. I haven't posted on this topic but will simply say the students seem to be getting a raw deal from the university. Based on my experiences at UND I feel that the students are being cheated of an experience and the resulting enviroment can't be beneficial to the school or program.

This standing / sitting policy is garbage and the school, not just the students, should be working toward a real solution. I like many can recall standing entire periods for great Sioux comebacks (Gophers in 1999 comes to mind). If the students do sacrifice seating location I hope that they will at least be able to stand freely. Also are the suites such that the seats could be elevate (i.e. bar stools)? I've only been to the new stadium twice and don't recall.

As for the president and his comments, I will only say that he has handled the situation poorly and does not have the support of this alum. Strong arming students is not a real solution to anything, but this appears to be the plan. I appreciate that RT was more respectful in his response.

On another note it was good to see an entire UND section at the Mankato series. All the banned chants made their way out. And nobody appeared to be injured... The "awefully quiet" chant was priceless. I hope that the SSSS has some success and the result is a better game day experience for students and the home team.

  6. Hmmmmm... Is there also a hockey game (or two) this weekend?

I am OK with UMDs traditions, they are just a little different than ours. They run laps, we win National Championships. This weekend could be a great springboard to #8.

But of course, respect the lap, or else...
