  1. I'd say right now, Rizzo & J. Braccini would be 1 & 2 on the wish list right now.

Another name to look for is Justin Barron -- D out of Nova Scotia. 1st round pick in the Q draft to his hometown team, but his brother went college route. Probably a long shot, but would be a huge get.

Our OL is a question mark until they prove otherwise.

I get it, you just won't be able to convince me that an OL that was pretty good at the end of the year and returns (including Grady), I believe 9 guys that have started a game will be anything less than solid.

Hero Sports writer predicting all conference winners. For the Big Sky he has picked the good guys. Pressure to stay on the tops seems to be building. What is the consensus around here? Do we have the tools to stay on top, or are we a backup or two away from the depth we really need?

Set offensively, I truly believe this team offensively will be head and shoulders better then they were last year. As balanced as any team UND has ever had, with incredible depth. They will have a championship caliber offense. To me it all comes down to (1) LB Depth (2) Safety Depth, because I believe they'll be as good on the defensive line if not better and will be better at CB than they were last year.

  4. All eyes are on week 3 against, USD. My guess is they'll be 1-1 heading into that matchup and they can't afford to start 1-2 again this year. USD is good, nervous for that match up on the road.

  5. I really like Jaxson's size back there, but how is everyone reading into this? First, they clearly like their depth at LB, better than Safety, but I'm hoping they think Jaxson could be a difference maker this year. Possibly looking at the #2 / #3 Safety come fall.

Edit: Then the question would be why wasn't this move made earlier. Kind of frustrating that depth of Safety has been an issue forever and it doesn't seem to ever be fixed. Frustrating, because it's a clear weakness on a team that has very few this year.

IMHO, it seems that the fastest way to 'fix' this is by <choke> getting the old band back together. Entice Northern Colorado to leave the Big Sky and reunite the former NCC schools who have moved to D-I under the Summit banner. It will give the Summit 6 football teams, add a basketball team that has made a March Madness appearance and adds a baseball team (which wouldn't be as important if the Summit were to break off into their own football conference), but no men's soccer.

For soccer, the answer is probably to add UMKC.

The addition of UNC and UMKC would bring the Summit back to 10 after IPFW bolts next year and gives the Summit the baseball and soccer teams it needs. Plus it would make the option of Summit football possible with the Dakota 4, Western Illinos and Northern Colorado. Then add Minnesota State and/or Minnesota Dukuth as a move-up for insurance for WIU and Oral Roberts.

Don't like this idea as much as just staying put in the Big Sky, but afraid that ship has sailed and UND's move to the Summit is inevitable.

This would be my vote every time. Add UNC / UMKC now, get Augustana and one other to begin the transition processes.

The hypothetical 'Great North' conference would be my first choice, but why are so many against more or less trying to get the NCC back together? It would bring stability, help with travel costs, which in turn could be put back into the programs. Looking at the current situation realistically, what hypothetical team would the conference bring in that would get everyone excited? I believe more people would want to play an Augustana that joined the Summit over a GCU or Chicago State.

North Dakota recruit Gavin Hain of Grand Rapids (MN) HS will play 2017-18 season for US NTDP U-18. Left-shot C put up 2 pts per gm last yr.

This really is great, what an opportunity for him! I also think with this step, he'll be a true freshman at UND for the 18-19 season. Huge step up in competition, should be great for his development.

  8. The coaching staff has shown over the past couple years, that they have a very good eye for talent. Just look at their early offers this year that were quickly followed by offers from other schools. Great early start for the coaching staff!

He didn't go to Kamloops developmental camp.

Correct, it doesn't appear that too many people think he'll end up there. The meeting was a new development of sorts, since it appeared he was definitely heading back to Penticton. My guess is he still will, but we'll have to wait and see. When it comes to a prospective recruit and the WHL (especially one that's a first round pick), I do like that he's doing his due diligence. If he ends back at Penticton the college team that gets him will have to feel better that he won't end up pulling a Gropp.

If he goes to penticton that would be good for us wouldn't It? It seems penticton has been our bread and butter for recruits  lately

Kamloops is the WHL team that drafted him, so if he decides to go there, no college hockey. Going to Penticton would be the first hurdle, then it turns back into UND being one of the many colleges that are after him.

  11. Mismash - Gardner - Poganski

    Gersich - Hoff - Kawaguchi

JJ - Jones - Bowen (Adams, Yon)

Olson - Simo - Smith (Gornall)

    Poolman - Wolanin

    Shaw - Peski

    Bast - Johnson (Kierstad/Rieger)

This is going to be an incredibly deep lineup, with talented players in the stands every night. I see this lineup as the most balanced, mixing experience with the freshman class.

Side note: I understand this is Cam's team, but I think it's crucial to get Thome into the mix. I'd like to see him play around 20% of the teams games.

  12. It was reported earlier this month that Rizzo & family were meeting with the Kamloops organization at the end of June. Also, an article about the Penticton team next year stated they should know in a couple weeks where he'd be playing next year. We should know any time if it's Kamloops or Penticton next year.

SBNation has Gavin Hain as a "B Prospect" and Braden Costello as a "C Prospect"

Elite Prospects seems to have Costello in the top 31 in their polls, but they don't seem to be curated as none of the scouting sites seem to have an '18 list and the names are all the same . . .

I was looking as well and there's not a lot as far as '18 draft information. UND recruits that will be eligible for the first time:

Gavin Hain - Grand Rapids HS

    Jonny Tychonick - Penticton (BCHL)

    Jacob Bernard-Docker (AJHL)

Braden Costello - Des Moines (USHL)

Tychonick / Bernard-Docker will both be on their second year of juniors after playing in their respective leagues as 16 year olds. Should be able to make a significant jump.
