I'll say this...I expect us to curb stomp NAU at home to the point where I can relax for the entire 4th quarter.  Something like 36-17 sounds about right.  That SHOULD be the expectation of this program if it wants to go where we all think it's going to go.  If that's not what happens I'll be sorely disappointed...

That being said...I have 9 years of a body of work to fall back on that tells me that what my expectation for that game is likely won't happen.  Not saying we won't win...but it'll likely be a 4th quarter game.  We were pumped with a last second come from behind win last year, and the Skydome is a tough place to play...but NAU went 3-8 last year and hasn't had a winning season since 2017..  If we want to be a perennial contender we have to take care of those 3-8/4-7 type teams handily.  Sorry if ya'll disagree with that assessment.

Why does it feel like it's against some kind of unwritten law within the UND fandom to want more from a program then you're currently getting??  That seriously bothers me...and it happens across many, if not most of the programs.  I get it...we were the 3rd best team in the mighty MVFC last year...that's pretty good!  Also we made the playoffs and finished in the top 25...that's in the top 20% of FCS!  Problem is...we are 5 rungs on the ladder below the two closest FCS programs to Grand Forks, and some of our most core supporters aren't willing to look holistically at the program and ask what we can do to close that gap!  I'm not advocating for any particular change...but just once I'd like to see us have 1/3 of the drive that the NDSU fanbase has!  They're off their rockers 50-60% of the time down there, but they always want more from their programs, and would never settle for Top 25-ish.  I hate them so much but I respect them for that.  I wish some of that would flow upstream.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone here comment that what we have is good enough. Yet a few of you keep arguing with your strawman day after day.

UND under Bubba is a 6 to 7 win/season program. That would suggest UND starts 2-1, and week 2 vs NAU will be a nail bitter. That shouldn’t be acceptable, though.

Do you have hot keys configured on your PC so you don't have to keep typing this stuff out over and over and over and over again?

I'm no goalie expert (paging @Wilbur) but I'm not sure DeRidder was a top 3 portal goalie spring of 2022.

I see Basse at SCSU and Kucharski (17-7-3 at AIC) at UNO as guys I was more interested in. And those two come after TJ Semptimphelter (NE'n to ASU).

Yes, yes. After he played a great game against us last October, we all became more interested in him last May. LOL. ;)

I do believe the request and denial by UND for Spicer to do a USHL year was reported by the GF Herald.

I think you're right about that. So, that's the whole story? UND requested, Spicer walked. Everything was great, otherwise?

I think this is the biggest whiff in recruiting so far. Bringing in a player who clearly wasn't ready (and still physically isn't in year 2) for college hockey instead of Morrow who was told he needed a year in the USHL. Yes I know there were other rumors/circumstances that lead to his de-commit but it all started with Berry telling him he needed to play USHL when clearly the player brought in needed another.

A lot of people here would love to know what you two know about these private conversations between a coaching staff and a potential player. Please share what you can. I understand that you probably don't have permission from the parties involved to share everything you know.

Waiting for a bill to be introduced into this year's legislature that writes UND woman's hockey into the State Constitution.

I bet they would have no problem getting the required signatures to put it on the November ballot if they put their time and effort into that, instead of lawsuits. No one showed up to watch women's hockey, but a whole lot of people would love to signal virtues by signing a petition and voting in favor.

I think people were more referencing this article and the quotes in it:

Okay, could be. The quotes I posted are from the article that Oxbow posted and commented on, and Wilbur replied to.

The quotes you posted do sound better, but I wouldn't say that Berry has never called a guy out for playing a bad period. Especially when he can say that the player turned it around and finished the game strong. Very standard 'coach talk' about in-game adjustments. I guess I don't have a specific example, so maybe I'm wrong.

Serious question: What exactly did Jackson say in that article that was different than what Berry would have said? I've heard BB make very similar comments about players who have struggled, had to take some time for reflection and figure out if they wanted to work through it or not.

jdub is correct. What did Jackson say that Berry hasn't said a thousand times in similar terms?

For those that can't get thru the paywall, here are Jacksons three quotes from the article.

"There's so much there," Jackson said. "There's so much speed. We just thought, 'Give him a shift when there's some open ice there.' He really showed some of those flashes of last year."

"He's been in some tough spots and it hasn't gone how he wanted, but I give him a lot of respect for how he's handled everything," Jackson said. "He always looks in the mirror, wants to get better, do video and he knows he's got things he has to improve. I just give him a lot of respect for how he's handled it. If he was ever not getting to play much or sitting out, he's the first one in working. He's a guy you cheer for because of how good of a teammate he is and how much he cares and prepares."

"We know he's got it," Jackson said. "He hasn't been feeling very confident so getting that mojo is huge. He's built some trust with the last weekend we played in Kalamazoo and he built upon it again. Hopefully that trend will continue, because we need him in the second half."

Oh, Mojo is the answer! lol!

There is absolutely nothing "blunt" or "refreshing" about any of this, but apparently the new narrative has been determined.

UMD has played a lot of hockey the last few seasons. The wear totals up. Biondi might be a signal of what Duluth's slow start was.

A lot of hockey can give experience but also warn of the grind of a NHL career.

Really? The two teams that make the national championship game play four more games than the teams that don't make the tournament. Four.

You missed the memo MH...you're not allowed to be a UND fan and publicly question how things are done with the program!  We're just supposed to coach the same way, recruit the same way, administer the program the same way...and expect different results will just come!  We have to #TrustTheProcess for ten years and it'll eventually pay off!

Or at least that's what I've been told both here and on social media...

You need to put more effort into creating your strawmen. This one seems a little old, and tired.

And with that, the first 6 figures raised go right to whoever is running it (assuming you want someone competent).

Like I said, not a hurdle, but definitely something that needs to be considered when everyone is tossing out how easy it would be get something started.

    Hmm. Six figures, you say?

Allright, I formally apply for the job. I have no fund-raising experience and I'm not comfortable doing cold calls. I don't know any filthy rich alumni, but I did meet Eddie Belfour at a private residence one time circa 1988. I was only nine or ten years old at the time, so maybe that doesn't help. If back rooms filled with cigars and scotch/bourbon are involved, I'm pretty good at that. Anyway, for six figures I promise to try my best, and if all six are a lot bigger than zero, I'll learn to do even better than that!

But according to some on here, recruiting is just fine. :silly:

I don't understand. How does a CC press release prove that UND recruiting isn't fine? Were these six highly recruited?

NLI's are really easy for either side to back out of, aren't they?

Berry just told Tim in the post game interview that there are some things the players can still hang their hats on from tonight but he didn’t elaborate on what those things were. Perhaps not giving up 8?

Post game coach interviews are stupid. A lot of clichés and shallow analysis. I don't understand why so many people around here place so much importance on them.
