Curious if he elaborated at all? I don't doubt it, but did he say how he came to believe that or who he heard it from?

The Oregon/Big Ten/Hockey addition rumor doesn't add up to me though.. would Oregon adding hockey really move the needle for their admittance to the Big Ten?  If the league didn't help Illinois get over the hump with how close that school was to adding hockey, I just don't see how it would make any difference to the Big Ten if Oregon added hockey.

As a club team they had to fundraise/pay their way on a campus where a ton of money is thrown at seemingly every other sport so it was something every recruit/freshman wondered about, resulting in the Bauer anecdote becoming common knowledge on the team. Didn't get any more info beyond that though.

I like NCHC tv and I Like the fact is conference owned and the money is going to the conference. Screw ESPN/Disney

If ESPN doubled the payout compared to what they make on their own, they would no longer have the expense of running it themselves, and eyeballs would skyrocket with casual observers and potential new fans. I'm personally fine with the status quo but ratings drive college athletics.

A hypothetical Summit League hockey conference would be foolish to not partner with a major provider.

Rumor is Oregon is offering to move to D1 hockey and build a new arena for a big 10 spot.  For context this is the guy who first reported the usc/ucla big ten rumor.

A onetime beer league teammate was a club player at U of O, said Knight harbors resentment to the sport of hockey after Nike bought high and sold low with Bauer. That was in the 90's though, hopefully he's over it by now.

I wish him the best. But, again, another overreaction when he de-committed from UND. Our coaches know what they are doing! Are they perfect? No, but more often than not, they make the right move.

Who knows if he even would have made it to campus if he hadn't decommitted. Could have would up like Mitchell Mattson, getting his offer pulled for not performing in Juniors. Now Donovan serves as another cautionary tale for anyone trying to jump from MN HS to D1.

They get FCOA which is more isn't it?  Not saying I'm not in favor of hockey and other sports at UND getting involved with NIL though.  In regard to hockey, the players could promote the Engelstad Foundation...

In theory yes, not sure how it applies to partial scholarship or walk-on.

So you're saying they are using UND to develop and get to the next level?   They have an option in hockey to go to Major Junior to get paid, but many want to get at least a start on their career after hockey.

We need to be compensating hockey players at the very minimum on par with CHL stipends. I'm still convinced Gerlach bolting for MJ cost us a tournament appearance.

Devil's advocate here, but I'd rather win without one.  NIL is destined to ruin college sports anyway.  Why not buck the trend and compete straight up?

Players who would come here only for the easy money are probably here for the wrong reason.

Jost left a year early to get paid, with NIL he could have stayed.  Hockey players are generally not from poor families, but not everyone is the son of an NHLer or banker. The anecdotes about Kristo and Forbort sharing an 80's minivan were amusing, but considering what they could have been making from NIL shouldn't happen again.

  8. Are there any whispers of one starting? McFeely did his part to kick the tires for the JV football dynasty, maybe Brad could do the same? While hockey is different from football, it'd be pretty frustrating to find out we missed on a targeted recruit because they got a nice NIL deal elsewhere.

Think you're wrong on that, those bits are gold and generate exactly what the "podcast" crowd wants IMO.

They just aren't particularly interesting or varied in their escapades. They have good flow and banter, which is good for passive listening.

  10. Has Beens w/ Boeser was a good listen. Decommiting from WI partly because they didn't give Sheehy or Jack Achan a look is interesting since they got Roman. Also knowing TTD was integral to sealing the deal for him shows it's worth the cost and then some.

If either of the hosts reads this, please put a timestamp link in the episode description for the interview start time. Most listeners aren't tuning in to hear what you do with your weekends.
