Build The Betty at about 5500? It already exists in Grand Forks. It's called the lower bowl of The Ralph and it has suites and two Club Rooms.
-
First, schools voluntarily join the NCAA, an independent and private organization, and as such those schools volunteer and agree to follow NCAA by-laws. As far as "bending" their rules, Southern Methodist University (SMU) "bent" some NCAA rules during the late 1980s "Pony Express" era (Eric Dickerson and Craig James in the backfield) and SMU got "bent" right back: the NCAA death sentence for their football program. It hasn't recovered yet.

Who would ever dream of playing Ferris State.

Yes, it goes by academic calendar and it is a five year process. Now, assuming these dates are good (and that's trusting my memory): 2003-2004 -- The provisional year 2004-2005 -- The "first" year by the definition I quoted above. 2005-2006 -- Second 2006-2007 -- Third 2007-2008 -- Fourth NDSU's football team is playoff eligible in fall of 2008 (academic 2008-2009), right? Isn't that correct? (Some other Bison fan please confirm or clarify.) The schedule above would put you one year behind UNC in transition and that's where NDSU is. This past season was UNC's "first" year in DI-AA status. If 2004-2005 is truly NDSU's "first" year (per NCAA definitions), a DI transfer, ala Koenig, would have to sit out a season. (See above.) Man that's a lot of work for a pure hypothetical.

Most of the non-conference games in 2004-2005 are in .... The Betty.
-
Part of building The Betty included a new floor and new ice level seating for The Ralph. That'll be better. And personally, the best seats to watch a game (hockey or BB) from in there are in the upper deck. As far as why move into The Ralph at all, I posted this in a different thread:

Let me take a swing at this too. Money. To pay for college athletics you have to have money, you have to generate revenues. REA creates more revenue for UND Athletics than any other possible venue. The suites, Club Rooms, broadcast facilities, the Pro Shop, various concessions and "beverage" sales: you have to create traffic in there to fund the athletic programs. A multipurpose facility is working just fine at Kohl Center (Wisconsin) and "The Schott" (at Ohio State). Alternatively, remember, they did put TV and radio broadcast capabilities into The Betty too. I'm sure they're looking for the right mix.

They released the 2004-2005 womens and mens basketball schedules along with the 2004 football schedule. Official Release at FightingSioux.com How about that WBB exhibition opener ....
-
Let me take a shot at that: When hockey is home that weekend, basketball will be on the road (obviously) and the BB teams will practice in The Betty that week then travel. When basketball is home and in The Ralph, clearly hockey will be on the road and will practice that week in the REA-Olympic rink. (And considering most of the rest of the league has Olympic ice, doesn't that make sense?) Consider the Olympic rink and The Betty as practice facilities and The Ralph as the home. It'll make sense then.

People are yet to mention that WBB exhibition opener ....

I just couldn't figure out a way to follow the lead of 'tony' and explain things, much less NCAA rules, to him using "red fish, blue fish."

Actually, isn't this year NDSU's "provisional" year and next year, under the NCAA language NDSU's "first year." A requirement during "first year" is: 20.5.2.2.2 First Year. During the first year of reclassification, an institution must satisfy the following requirements: .... ( c ) Apply Division I legislation to the greatest extent possible; ... Now what are those requirements of interest here: 14.5.1 Residence Requirement
-
That is a new one to me as well. I'd only been familiar with the "National Letter of Intent." That "institutional letter" must be some kind of loophole in the NCAA rules so the school can use the student-athlete's name in a press release before they are on campus on a full time basis.

Wasn't it Bochenski who said earlier this year something like: You don't score on 100% of the shots that are not on net.

I believe it was pointed out by the comic Steven Wright that it is "a penny for your thoughts" but people "put their two cents in" and that someone is making a penny on the transaction.

Saturday's Forum listed NDSU as having two confirmed home dates for football in 2004: California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo Northwestern (Louisiana) State University (Natchitoches, Louisiana)

Actually, I'd guess your best bet would be one of the Clear Channel ND stations (considering they have the broadcast rights to Sioux Athletics on radio). KFGO-AM 790 Fargo KVOX-AM 1280 Moorhead KFYR-AM 550 Bismarck KKXL-AM 1440 Grand Forks Maybe the other GF AM stations will be there: KNOX-AM 1310 KCNN-AM 1590 I'd doubt WDAY-AM 970 Fargo (radio home of NDSU) would give this much of a glance. Your best bet might be to check FightingSioux.com later in the day.

On the subject of HS sports, maybe it's nostalgia ("the good ol' days") but I'd have to agree that the performance level ND HS BB has, at best, held steady over the last 20 years. A general note: A transfer from any DI (for example DI-AAA UW-Green Bay) to any other DI would require him to sit out for a season. A transfer to a DII or DIII and he'd be immediately eligible to play. * DI-AAA: They don't play football at all.

The first story I've seen so far this year about tuition increases at ND State Board of Higher Education schools showed up in Saturday's Fargo Forum. This is what NDSU projects:

"We prefer March 17 over February 14, but only 'cause it's green. " Or to placate Dr. K there should be a sign mentioned in here: Welcome Fellow Scholars.

So there is an Oshie - Warrorad tie-in.

Mentioning quotes, I'm surprised this one hasn't received more chatter: From The (Golden) Boys Are Back In Town
