U2Bad1 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I posted the same thing on uscho.com 's cafe board. Im curious to see if anyone has had the same experience.... A couple nights ago my wife answered the door to some young guy selling magazines. He gave us the pitch about how he could earn a thousand dollars for college if he sold enough magazines. When my wife turned him down he became very aggressive until my wife eventually said good luck and shut the door. Instead of walking away he began yelling crap outside our door about how rude america is since people won't buy his magazines. I experienced the same sales pitch a couple months earlier. When I turned him down he kept repeating the line "dont you want to see me go to college?" My wife eventually went to complain to the apartment manager who escorted him from the property. Here is a quote from my wife's blog about what happened... "I wish I would have found out what the name of this company was. Does anyone have any idea who this could be? Our apartment has no solicitation signs up everywhere, but we keep getting this same salesman. They are aggressive, and rude when you turn them down. Quite frankly, the whole incident made me very nervous. The kid was very aggressive and angry, and it worried me he might do something to us. " Quote
choyt3 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 We had something similar in our town this past summer. These guys were in pairs. VERY rude and VERY aggressive. After my wife told them no about 10 times, I finally made it home from work. As I was parking my truck, one of them asked for a "pop or a bottle of water or something". I don't know if he thought if he got into the house that he would be able to persuade us or what. I felt like he wanted to come in and case our house. Needless to say, they were escorted away pretty quickly. The sheriff's department was called before they even made it to their car. Quote
Local Boy Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 These companies have been around for a long time. I don't know how they can legally exist. The "employees" are underage and from out of state. They typically travel in a van with a scary dude and sleep 8 to a motel room. They're essentially fed off of fast food dollar menus. I had an attractive young girl last year, about 16, come to my door. She wanted to come in and told me she was 2 subscriptions away from a goal, bonus, or something. She explained that she would do "anything" for the last 2 sales. I see them about once every 2 months in my neighborfood. Who would send their child out with one of these groups? We have some serious parenting issues in this country. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I had one of these once come to the door. Once I realized what I was up against I asked if I could go back in the house and get what I'd been working on and keep at it on the front step while I listened to their pitch. They agreed. For some reason the fellow's pitch was shorter than I expected. They left before I could even finish what I brought out to work on. But I just stayed on the front step and finished cleaning the .44 calibre out there anyway. Quote

We bought it and when we tried to return it the owner of the company told me that I was a piece of sh%^ because I gave him my word I was going to buy this vacuum and when we changed our minds we called us several times and went off and told us that we were no good and that we must be porr white trash since we could not afford his vacuum. For gods sake it was $1400, I do not think a lot of people can afford that. He was a total ass. After doing some research, we found out that the Attorney General in Mn had been contacted do to this guys rude behavior before. Just wanted to share my story. Quote
HockeyMom Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I think those door to door meat salesman are the worst. And they always throw out names of people- like you're going to buy their meat 'cause your neighbor did. I also had an accident insurance lady that was peddling it door to door once- she came into our house and sat down while we were eating and wouldn't take no for an answer. I said I would purchase it and called the next day and cancelled it......they were sending me a bill, and I knew it was the only way to get rid of her. Quote
iceberg Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I've seen those people show up at my mom's (they don't come to my house...maybe something to do with the "if you are trying to sell me something, I own a gun and will use it" sign on the front door might scare them away They tried to pursuade me into getting a magazine or something. I told them that I don't want any magazines and to leave. They got all pissy at me and I politelly told them to leave (there were two of them) but slamming the door on them was the best They were still standing there hollering rude stuff at me. The Jehovas are the worst. Had a couple of them just happen to come when I was opening the garage. I told them I was busy and to leave. They stood there. I told them "I'm leaving so move" and as I was climbing in the truck I said (because they were right behind the truck) I have s**t for brakes and started the truck. They quickly moved when I threw it in reverse All door to door solicitors suck! The cable company ones are great. I look at the guy and say "I have 6 satellite dishes. Why the hell would I want cable?" Quote
HockeyMom Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 "I have 6 satellite dishes. Why the hell would I want cable?" Ha Ha when we switched to Directv ten years or so ago, the cable guy was disconnecting us and I asked him to take the nasty looking cable off of the house as well, and he said that he was going to leave it in case we ever wanted to hook back up. I looked at him and said-were getting a dish, we won't be going back to cable......he ripped that sucker down and sped off rather angrily. Quote
NanoBison Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I had a similar thing happen here in Fargo. One day we got 2 Jehova's witnesses at our front door. They managed to convince someone to buzz them into the building. When I confronted them about why they were'nt being escorted around in our building (it states in the Renter Agreement you're responsible for ALL guests you bring into the building), they got very snooty with me. I just picked up my cell-phone and told them they've got 5 seconds before I called the cops. They had the audacity to say, "we're not doing anything wrong, we're not soliciting", I just simply said get out and started dialing and they left. The next day I had the person come by trying to sell magazines. I can understand if it's high school children doing a fundraiser, but this guy was about 25-30, stunk horribly from smoking and was extremely pushy. I told him I didn't have any money but he kept trying to make the sale. He asked if I could write him a check and promised he would wait to cash it. I just finally closed the door on him and he pounded back and said a derogatory term through the door and then ran out of the building. What the hell is wrong with these people? Quote
