jimdahl Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Illinois to review NCAA decision "There's no question that the university and the board of trustees are going to have to look at what the NCAA put out today and make a determination on how it impacts the institution and go from there," he said.Statement from FSU president That the NCAA would now label our close bond with the Seminole people as culturally "hostile and abusive" is both outrageous and insulting. ... The rules as we understand them would have us cover the Seminole name and symbol as if we were embarrassed, and any committee that would think that is a proper and respectful treatment of Native Americans should be ashamed. UND President's Statement Since the announcement uses the words mascot (we do not have one), and nickname, and logo interchangeably, with an undefined adjective Quote

ScottM Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 I was thinking the same thing the other day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Now, now. There's no need to point the inherent hypocrisy of the "remedies" suggested by the NC$$. On the other hand, since the NC$$ can only "ask" schools to cover the names/logos of their buildings, what if they don't and there's no such requirement in the contract? Especially privately-owned or non-school controlled facilities? Moreover, what if the schools are contractually obligated to display the name/logos that might be owned by a non-profit group? FWIW: It does not appear that Illinois is even going to consider dropping its name. Quote
