Rory McMahon

Word is that Rory McMahon is likely going to be joining the Washington capitals organization to play down here in South Carolina. Any body got the scoop on him?

I hear he can be pretty pesky on the ice, but I was wondering what I could expect...

Rory will be a great addition to the capitals organization. He is a very hard worker, never takes shifts off, and is the type of player that leads by example. Origionally used in the Sioux lineup for his defensive and faceoff abilities, Rory showed that he can produce points as well especially in his senior season. He grew very well as an all around player at UND and can move the puck exceptionally. He can play on the power play, penalty kill, be a first line center, or play a 3rd line checking role. He is feisty and not afraid to stand up for himself or teammates. Not a flashy type, but gets the job done effectively. A reliable player who shows up every single night. Strong with or without the puck, Rory was one of the key skaters in taking UND to the championship game. Best of luck to him with the caps, I'm sure he will not dissapoint.

I don't think McMahon projects as a first-line center at higher levels of hockey, and I also wouldn't characterize him as an exceptional puck mover. I do, however, think he has a chance to have a professional career as a very solid two-way forward. Regular fans will grow to appreciate his game.

Tell him his role and he just goes out and does it. I still believe his strongest suit is on the defensive end.

Expect a defensive centerman who wins about 70% of face-offs and with a right-around-zero plus-minus in the pros. And that plus-minus is against just about anybody.
