dakotadan Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Marquette University had announced last week to officially change their name from Golden Eagles to just Marquette Gold. It didn't last very long... Marquette Story I had seen an article a few days ago about the change and also found it rather strange. Apparently I wasn't the only one. I just don't understand why they don't go back to the Warriors name and just use a new non-native american logo, such as a knight warrior or something along those lines. There are plenty of different warriors in history to choose from. Quote
PCM Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Here's an idea: Because the Golden Eagles nickname wasn't PC enough, and the Gold nickname wasn't PC enough, they should next try becoming the Marquette Go. Quote
PCM Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 I just came up with a cheer for the Marquette Go. Let's go Go, let's go! (clap, clap) Let's go Go, let's go! (clap, clap) Kinda catchy, doncha think? Quote

ethanm Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I thought the nickname of "Gold" was one of the dumbest I've ever hear. Apparently, I wasn't the only one with how soon the school dumped it. My question is didn't the Athletic Department do some research into the name change? It sure doesn't look like they did. Otherwise, they might have done the following in the first place. As many as 100,000 alumni worldwide, nearly 11,000 students and more than 2,000 employees potentially could be involved in the final decisio Quote
