CC with a huge win for the NCHC over UConn, 4-2.
SCSU ties Augie, 2-2.
Miami beats Ferris.  Duluth well on their way against Alaska.
If ASU can hold on against PSU, it'll be a great OOC start for the NCHC!

Thoughts after the game.

Penn State is all hype, Michigan, Minnesota, and MSU are going to be very tough for them.

McKenna for the most part wasn’t noticeable. Had that one good play and if the students didn’t boo him every time with the puck I wouldn’t have noticed. He start to get hit the floating will have to stop.

ASU looked better most of the game, their goaltending is weak along with the power play. How Dowd isn’t QB’ing the pp is wild. They basically just pass it around like a UND power play, not shooter to take a shot.

ASU can’t let these opportunities get away like this against beatable teams.

I was just gonna say.
For McKenna...I know it's only his first game.  But I was expecting more.  I was expecting to be "wow'd" a bit more...for a guy labeled as a generational talent.
Completely different players and eras, but I was more impressed watching Parise's first UND game than McKenna just now.
He doesn't appear to be an overly fast or smooth skater.  Has great vision and passing instincts for sure.  Doesn't seem to engage defensively or skate back with effort when the puck is going the other way.

Will be interesting to watch how his season goes.  I'm sure he'll put up points, no doubt.

I was expecting McKenna to dominate when he was in the ice. If this was UND he would have been getting hit every time he touched the puck.

I feel The Hoeff and Cole have a better year. The way he was playing, I’m glad UND wasn’t in his list.

Thoughts from the ASU game in person.

Until the 3rd I actually liked Hasley for ASU in net haha. (Thought he held ASU in the game until they got their legs, his 3rd period was definitely not good but thought he showed some flashes of why he had 11 shutouts last year)

Dowd I actually thought had a rough game defensively just struggle with being out of position slightly and letting guys with more range scoot around him based him being smaller. (Just 1 game though)

Gadowsky I don’t think is a hobey top 10 player last year if he plays in a legit conference.

McKenna - has great vision but like someone mentioned he doesn’t really have blazing speed. I don’t recall him once taking a guy wide with a burst of speed. The lack of that might make it harder for him to rack up the points people have projected him at. He did seem to pass up a couple shot opportunities so he might be paying a little too passive to start. The “generational” tag might have been premature. We’ll see

I didn't see any other Sioux fans there lol. There is a couple I run into every so often that have season tickets.

Awesome top line for UMD this season.
But something tells me that the rest of their lineup will struggle a bit.
Bets that UMD's top line scores more points than the rest of their lines combined?  ;)
