SWSiouxMN Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 UND had a rough night against Eastern Washington, getting buried early and the late, dropping their 2nd straight on the road trip and is now 0-4 on the road in conference play. It doesn't get any easier as they head to Moscow to finish the 1st half of the conference schedule against Idaho. The Vandals dropped an 80-63 decision against UNC and are looking to bounce back after losing 80-63 to UNC. Idaho leads the series 4-3, including a 2-1 record in Moscow. The first matchup was not very good as UND was in the mist of their struggles and Idaho made very quick work of UND. While UND played better for a while, the EWU game was a big step back. With the 2nd half of the season around the horizon, UND needs to get the momentum back or they face the reality of a bottom 3 finish in the league. I only have one key today 1) THE START! UND cannot afford slow starts, this cannot be understated enough.... they need to be ready to go out of the gate. IF not, find 5 players that will be. Last Thursday was a total failure of players and coaching staff. The players for not showing up and the coaches for allowing the bleeding to continue. Other games: UNC (5-3) @ EWU (5-3) This becomes a critical matchup to end the first half of the conference season. UNC won a critical tiebreaker over Idaho on Thursday, and would love nothing more than to add the EWU tiebreaker as well. Winner ends the first half in 3rd place and in good shape for the 2nd half. NAU (1-7) @ Griz (8-0) NAU finally got their first win! Can they make it two in a row? The Griz is just rolling right now, too early to start speculating about them running the table? If they survive the UND/UNC swing next week, the whispers will only grow louder. SAC (2-5) @ PSU (3-4) Two teams battling for middle of the pack supremacy. Both teams have had some close losses and could argue their records could be better if they had finished those games. Weber (5-2) @ ISU (4-3) Weber is right where many thought they would be, ISU? Not so much, they are rocking around the middle of the pack and are looking for the sweep of Weber State. Weber can't afford to fall further behind Montana if they have wishes of being a 1 seed in Reno. SUU (2-6) @ MSU (4-4) The Cats are free.... freefallin' Started 4-0 and have dropped 4 straight, they need to figure it out rather quickly, they are too talented to be .500. SUU is looking to continue to get better as the season goes along. The Call: UND started this road trip feeling pretty good. They knocked off NDSU and was playing better. Then the close loss to UNC happened and snowballed to the blowout at Eastern. Idaho is a very good squad who is slightly underachieving and is looking to ramp it up. UND is running out of time to get "jelled" and play well. They need to use these next 10 games to evaluate what is going to have to change once they hit the Summit next year. As for this one, UND will play better but the Vandals will bounce back Idaho 80-71 1 Quote
