Rick Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I went to the WDAY TV News website and watched the coverage they had on UND grad Karen Nyberg's shuttle mission. As you watch the whole piece, you'll notice that not once did they mention that she was a UND grad and all the things she accomplished at UND. Or that she was taking a UND flag and other artifacts with her into space. I wrote WDAY an e-mail stating that it was very disappointing to watch that report without one word of her North Dakota connection. I asked them why a Fargo based TV station would miss an opportunity to highlight that a mission specialist like Karen Nyberg received her education at a North Dakota university. I wrote the e-mail to the reporter covering the story and I copied the GM and all directors and managers. Do you think this was just an oversight? Or are they this paranoid in Fargo about saying anything that's UND positive? Quote

GeauxSioux Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Shuttle Astronauts Share Space Through SouvenirsNyberg, as the University of North Dakota's first alumna to fly in space, took a flag and a certificate for the school, as well as a compact disc. "The School of Engineering has sent a disc that has the names of all the students, faculty and staff since I think 1897, whenever the school started." Quote

I quickly glanced at an article in one of the Minnesota papers, sorry, I forget which one and all it said about her roots was she was a 'Minnesota connection'. There may have been something about UND in the article and I just missed it. Quote
