But in all seriousness, how long can this go on for?
Until all of us already branded "Sioux" slowly die off. There will be no re-branding. If they really want FH to stick they will have to focus on a new generation. They have to know this.

I won't make such a claim.
What I will point out is that I heard majority of an arena complaining about a name a majority picked. Something just doesn't seem to align.
Saturday at the Betty there was an audible groan the first time the PA announcer used "Fighting Hawks." I wouldn't say it was a majority of the crowd, but noticeable. During the last minute of a close game, that's when I heard a majority.

What was witnessed in REA this weekend (besides a completel mauling of DU) was reality setting in.
Many of those who voted Fighting Hawks thought, believed, they were voting Fighting "How About We Keep Sioux."
Well, reality hit. It isn't an acronym. It's Hawks, as weak as that is (and as weak as it was the 20-some other times a team went from a Native related name to a bird). It's a bird; it's not an acronym.
Congrats Fighting Hawks fans, you gave Dr. Kelley his greatest victory: consultant approved inoffensive bird.
Let me guess: None of this would be happening if only voters would have been smart enough to vote in roughriders. Right?

UND gets a good home win over a solid MVC team in UNI. 64-59 was the final.
Shoutout to Knox for a great game today.

I agree with this x 1000.
But don't you think the design process she describes too closely resembles the process that led to our nickname being Fighting Hawks?
-
I don't think the Women's team will be bad this year;
All this losing doesn't worry me one bit either. Early season failure strengthens a team for late season success. Last year we followed the opposite route.

I notice Olivia Hass has been removed from the roster. Anyone got the scoop? Or a guess even?

Ladies out in San Fran playing like a bunch of young kids a long ways from home. Doesn't look like they will be able to muster 40 points. Brewster was teed up with Pres Kelley sitting right behind him.

WBB announcer just called our team Fighting Sioux, of all things.

But when I think of "formal" process I think of the committee
Yeah, and you see where the creativity-by-committee strategy has gotten us so far. It creates a situation in which the focus is on elimination instead of creation. Each option is taken away one by one until we are left with a nickname by default, and eventually a logo by default.

The fact that the last logo's designer was an alum was an important ingredient to its uniqueness, and ultimately its success. For them to slam the door on the toes of any potential homegrown creativity is a bullet in the foot.

I wonder how much UND paid for the extra, needless round of voting..
Yes. The round of 5 was all that was needed. Would have been the same result too.
Any ballot that contains only 2 choices and no write-ins is ridiculous.

... refute the message.
I am not here to refute a message I agree with. Although I would change, "detachment from reality" to "willingness to ignore reality."

The day I throw a tantrum, everyone will know it.
Fair enough. Wrong word. Its just that when I hear some of you using "Fhawk" the way you are I am imagining it coming from some drunken 19 year old frat boy Bison or Gopher fan.

BTW Sic, I actually prefer the side of you that complains. You have voiced many righteous ones. Which is worth it whether you are in control or not .

Sic was in the 'control what is yours to control' group...
So what is he controlling now with all these tantrums?

Talk about a glorious trifecta of detachment from reality, and failure, by Dr. Kelley:
- built in obscenity sure to offend some: the F'Hawk you say ...
- quite simply: http://www.howaboutwekeepsioux.com -- Dr. K: You got punked here
- "ruffling the feathers" of another NDUS member
Not only did the man not see the F'Hawk-ing obvious coming at him, he missed the whole acronym (HAWKS = How About We Keep Sioux) angle because he and his minions weren't paying attention, and he missed all the people here pointing out the number of schools that go from Native to <adjective> Hawk and how pathetic that is as it's been done at least a dozen times before.
The man took a failed process to a whimpering conclusion, and yet was able to have the epic fail extend beyond that.
Dare I say, in the end, he proved that he F'Hawk-ed all this up.
Weren't you in the "pick a new nickname and move on" group? Or was it just the "pick a new nickname and then complain about it" group?

OK so I am trying to get caught up on everything here, I realize that the new nickname is effective immediately but when will they decide on a logo? I either did not hear it or it got lost in the shuffle of everything. Thanks
Nobody knows yet, even with a plan in place decisions are made on the fly around here.

The F'Hawk ....... references are going to get really old fast!
And it's not even our rivals using it. It's as if some of us have switched teams.

Fighting Hawks should become Behind-the-Scenes-Manipulating Hawks.

Shrewdly Negotiating Hawks
nice
Drop Fighting Hawks name
in UND Nickname

A "majority" was forced by electioneering sleight of hand.
