  1. We've been over this....
  2. That this "letter to the editor" was written and signed by a group of NDSU employees makes it laughable.
  3. Considering the site is allowing me to vote multiple times, I think it's pretty much a worthless indicator.
  4. No way Badlanders AND Roughriders both make the final ballot.
  5. This list frankly makes Ermines look good.
  6. If we really are only at the end of the first quarter in this process, I forfeit the game.
  7. Good thought. I wouldn't vote for any nickname that has any military connotation at all for that matter.
  8. Roosevelt also squatted in Africa for nearly a year. Maybe the University of Congo Rough Riders exists out there somewhere...
  9. Very surprised that among all this talk of ND's nickname being the Rough Rider State nobody points out that our official nickname is actually Peace Garden State. (NDCC, Section 39-04-12 cir. 1957) "Rough Rider State" is simply an ad slogan.
  10. Interesting. And EWU isn't the only Big Sky team going through this kind of issue. Towards the end of this season Portland State had a similar mass exodus. In fact when they played in the Betty they were so short-staffed that by the end of the game they found themselves down to just 5 eligible players and one foul away from a forfeit. Currently their roster stands at 7, and they have even resorted to holding open tryouts.
  11. Forgive me if this has been covered, but can someone tell me whether UND is open to a change in color scheme as well? The current colors are less than ideal for much of the remaining list. Go Green Snow Leopards!
  12. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sites/default/files/Padilla%20Domain%20Names.pdf undseminoles.com?!?
  13. You missed the "locally-tied" part. UND has stressed that local relevance is one of their most cherished criteria. Obviously none of the schools in your examples had such concerns when choosing a name. "3. Be representative of the state and region in a way that honors the traditions and heritage of the past but also looks to the future." --Und Nickname Committee BTW, if you really haven't seen an eagle around here you must not be looking up.
  14. Agreed. Grand Forks is connected to the Badlands/Roosevelt so remotely that it makes little sense to go that route. I don't know another sports team whose "locally-tied" mascot only exists 400 miles away, (well, other than RRHS).
  15. Actually there is no reason to fear anyone on a team that doesn't feature the longball in its gameplan very often. (And you're right that Lauck was the weapon of choice when they did). I have a feeling that teams will learn to fear Dyer from anywhere on the floor if Brewster ever hands her the keys.
  16. Combining the past 2 season, 21% of our FG attempts came from 3 range. Compare that to the 2 years you mention, when that number was 26%. They put up 335 more 3-point attempts than the modern era team. Yes, I do think this shows less desire to hammer it down low. Studying the difference in makes only tells half the story, unless we also study the difference in attempts.
  17. The lack of production from the arc isn't about recruiting. It's a side effect of a coaching strategy that emphasizes the inside game, where pounding the ball into your massive center is always plan A. Both Burck and Szabla would have been top 7 in the BS in 3FG% if not for having too few attempts. Dyer is consistently good from 3. We all know Lauck could fill it up when asked to. The problem isn't too few makes, but too few attempts. In fact as a team we were 10th in BS in makes, but when we did attempt 3s we shot well enough for 5th in BS 3FG%. Evers' departure changes everything. Now Brewster is going to have to find a new plan A. I predict 3-pt production will go way up next season.
  18. These press-released lists reek to high heaven. If something is transparent it shouldn't have to "show you" how transparent it is...
  19. By my math, there will have to be 3 redshirts this season: There are ten roster spots set as of right now, I assume all of which are scholarship players. There are also 8 previously announced newcomers on the way (6 freshmen and 2 transfers). That totals 18, and with 15 scholarships to give it means there will be 3 players without. (Someone check my math). My first guess would be Boike, given that Brewster has been quoted using the word "develop" regarding her. After her I would guess the 2 guards, Asuncion and Morton. The position is already crowded as 7 out of the 10 established roster spots are listed as guards (plus another coming in from UM).
  20. I think the best choice would be no mascot. However I believe Judy's Bar has a better chance of making the final 3, given that the people handling the process are marketeers. Conflict of interest. And yes, there is a good chance you will see Flickertails in the final 3.
  21. I would add Shanley's Lauren Rotunda to the list of prospects for '16. She is a very versatile 6' forward who does a little bit of everything. She also seems to come up big in crucial games/moments when her team needs a lift. (Just ask Hannah Stewart). She was all over the court at the State A this weekend.
  22. Evers late in the season has not looked like herself. She looks tired, especially the last couple games.
  23. At the HS level nobody can match up with her underneath, and the closer in she gets the more dominant. But she's also comfortable shooting from the arc, and does occasionally. Haven't seen much for back-in moves, she's much more of a face-you-up and break you down type. But what impresses me most is the passing ability. Despite her scoring average she seems unselfish and looks to pass first, and usually finds the open player. Last night she might have had 10 assists if not for missed easy shots. Oh and she is a good finisher, which is nice. Nothing can kill momentum faster and frustrate fans more than a missed point blank layup.
  24. Nice to know we are at least a good transfer option for her. She is definitely the prize in ND this year.
