Nothing was going to compare to the Sioux logo.  It just won't.  But those days are gone, and we're stuck with the Fighting Hawks.

I'm not in love with the logo, but I like it.  I had low expectations considering how many !@#$ hawk logos are out there (see the UMass-Lowell and Iowa logos in this thread).  I agree that I think southpaw's grey rendition is the best possible option so far.

I will say one thing, and I know that this will probably be a very polarizing opinion:  I'm really disappointed in the public reaction of some of the current hockey players.  I get that they don't love it; most people don't.  And former players are going to say what they will.  But as current student athletes, they represent the university, and I think this is one day that negative opinions should have been kept behind closed doors.  If you don't like it, that's fine, but there's no reason to be complaining on social media about it being the ugliest logo in all of sports.

You think they should gag order their athletes? Interesting. I can see the recruiting advantage now:
Bubbs: "Hey come to the University of North Dakota and win championships."
Recruit: "didn't your administration have problems understanding the 1st amendment?"
    Bubbs: "Umm"

Some of the complaints a lot of you are coming up with are pretty hilarious. God himself could have done a Fighting Hawks logo and people would still nitpick and whine. Move on, this won't be the logo for the next 1000 years.

lol 'everyone rejoice, its only temporary' - yeah we wanted exactly the opposite, timelessness.

  3. couple thoughts from me and then I'll be done commenting on this - its not good for my mental health to continue to discuss this subject:

    1. Don't tell us 'we'll always be ND' and 'we'll always have the interlocking logo' and 'we appreciate our heritage' and then go ahead and get ANOTHER letter-based logo which will effectively wipe out our interlocking ND -- our connection to teams of the past. This isn't a standalone mascot, its a replacement of the interlocking ND - what will we have parading around the sidelines at football games?

    2. after looking at SME's body of work months ago (think NAU), we had to know this was coming.

    3. This would be a super cool airplane company logo - clean-cut, simple, sleek. Doesn't give us anything to get excited about.

    Go UND.

  4. A forward thinking individual would have submitted 'Fighting- Foxes, -Hens, -Mice, -Rats, -Bears, -Zebras, -Penguins, -Coyotes, -Kitties, -Cats, -Giraffes, -Elephants, Etc.' so that one 'Fighting ______ (animal)' wouldn't stand out above the rest. Sigh.

I was lucky enough to sit in on one of the aforementioned (in the article) focus groups, and I told the reps from SME that I came into the setting with a fair amount of skepticism (mind you, more of an open mind but not cynicism) as to what they'd come up with for the "Three Directions" that they were headed. After seeing the directions, I told them I was surprised that "I did not hate" the basic concepts they revealed as far as primary logo, secondary logo and Word Mark logo.  The SME boss told me that, in his business, my sort of reaction could be called a victory for them, especially given the conviction, angst and controversy surrounding the old logo and the transition.

Knowing what your paradigm has been throughout the nickname debacle (relatively forward-thinking, if begrudgingly), your wording does not make me over-hopeful. Now, I realize that if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't come on here and praise it either (even if I loved it), for fear of the lynching when it is rolled out.

Saw I had a personal message on twitter...and to my surprise it was from bubba:

Cool to see him going above and beyond to help do his part.

I got that message a week or two ago as well!

I like lines 1-3 the way they are but I think they will probably end up splitting up that 4th line - at least to start the season. probably want to spread the newcomers out with known commodities. Hopefully end the season the way you've got them.

Yes and no.  There's always excitement over our incoming recruits.  It's a new challenge for them when they get on campus, and a few can succeed right away, and most need a year or two to acclimate.  It's nice to know we have somehighly touted guys, but I'd have a little cautious optimism.

Yeah I understand cautious, but I'm just wondering if the recruits are better in quality than usual.

  9. Someone with a few more seasons under their belt--

does this his seem like an abnormally good time for recruiting? Jost, Hain, tychonik, blaisdell, karki, mattson, thome, manchineel I, etc? I know the players come in at different times due to their age and demands/readiness but it seems like the pipeline is getting really rich.

    is this normal ?

That's nothing.  I had a dream that Kate Upton scored the GWG in OT of the National Title game, and she didn't even dress.   Biggest, happiest dog pile of Sioux players you ever saw in your life.  Coaches too.  And the trainer.

    Hey, you never know.

I actually laughed out loud, for several seconds.

  11. Yeah after checking Twitter for the HE trolls (@easternbias), I hope NCHC sweeps. Idc if we have to play UMD, Duluth, or SCSU, let's shut them down!

"@easternbias: Terrible screw job by the committee to not set up the possibility (let's be real, likelihood) of a BC, BU, NU, Harvard Frozen Four"

    what a !@#!$!.

We will be hosting a party at the Ultimate Sports Bar in Waite Park, MN (St. Cloud) starting at noon. Tom the owner is very supportive of UND, this is the place that Al Pearson's bus stops at when it makes it's annual trip to St. Cloud. The food is good, lots of smaller TV and a giant big screen that will have our game on it. Party starts at noon - it's gonna be a Good Friday.

    Good Friday-- well played sir!

Oh wow, I saw the pic on Twitter but didn't look closely at it. Why is Dierks Bentley wearing a Sioux jersey, or is that just some one who looks like him?

He said he couldn't find his other jersey, also he probably has one because he played at the Ralph a while back.

He does have a point. I think it is more ethical to go after people for actual crimes: Vandalism, theft, assault, etc.

For those who are not aware, life in Colorado has not changed much since legalization with two exception: 1) a lot of tax revenue 2) there was an influx of homeless but this will level off once other states legalize it...which is in the works.

Read: a lot of tax revenue, and a lot of people to soak it up.
