  1. I agree with PCM, I thought the Sioux played very well defensively and JP was solid between the pipes. Berkhoel was a stone wall. I don't know that I have seen a more composed and confident tender. He made difficult saves look easy. I was expecting UND's speed up front on the big sheet to present more problems for Denver, but it seemed that they sat back and clogged the passing lanes.

In the Gopher game I thought Isaac was the difference. I found it interesting that all three Bulldog goals were counter-attacks. The Goph's played their game of puck control and attack but couldn't finish, Isaac was fantastic stopping multiple point-blank opportunities. I tip my hat to the Dogs, they earned it. I will be cheering for them in Boston to end their drought.

  2. Thanks (all 28 of you) for joining our camp for today's Gopher game!

I would have joined yours! ;)

Watch it, the NCAA may cite you for a recruiting violation. :0

  3. extremely disappointing. this team is a lot better than that. very underachieving. what's interesting to note is that in almost all of UND's losses this year, it came because of the lack of scoring, not goaltending. the sioux were the top scoring team in the nation, but in games we lost, it was because we scored 1 goal, or like tonight, nothing.

adios zach parise. thank you for coming to UND and bringing the shattack group with you. thank you for two great years of excitement and class.

sorry, i just dont see him sticking around.

I hope Zach stays, I love watching his game.

  4. You've got a rematch today that I'm sure you're not looking forward to... ;)

Should be a great game! The last 5 were!

Agreed it will be a great game but I am very much looking forward to it. I hope it lives up to Denver vs. UND.

  5. Why would Gopher fans start something now...with a game against UMD looming, their ticket to Boston is far from punched... :0

I agree, the Dogs will give the Gophers all they can handle. Can you tell me if anyone other than Lessard (read he is out for this weekend) is out? I didn't get a chance to see UMD yesterday. Impressive win though.

Tough end to a great season for the Sioux. The "one and done" format does not ensure that the best team always wins. Until the end I thought this was the Sioux's year. Well, the Sioux are young and recruited a monster class so the future is bright.

  6. If you look closely you will see Bochenski putting the blade of his stick right behind Ballards knee, which then trips him. Not so great of a move, luck.

I watched the play over and over and have not seen that. I just don't want to go there. A great gaol by Bochenski, nuff said.

  7. It was certainly a game that Greene probably wants to forget. But if it means he sticks around for another year, we'll just have to live with it. ;);)

The best defensemen make errors, sometimes costly ones. I'm sure Greene will forget it and play solid hockey. On the plus side Greene coming back (if he decides to) may influence Thomas to return too! ;)

Does anybody else's week seem boring until they drop the puck!

  8. I watched the video replay several times. Looks to me like Ballard knew he was badly beat by Bochenski and dipped into his repertoire of moves learned at the Thomas Vanek School of Academy Award Winning Dives. ;);)

Actually Keith is a visual learner, he had learned from Greene earlier in the period :

    1. How to assist T. Vanek in tying the score 3-3.

    2. How to look absolutely foolish when T. Vanek schools him with his patented "between the legs" move. Only a good save from Brandt pulled his burned tale out of the fire. ;)

  9. If the Sioux don't win it, I hope the Gophers do. If not the Sioux or Gophers, I hope it's Wisconsin, UMD, or Denver. Keep it in the WCHA.

If the Sioux don't win I hope the Gophers win too! I agree with your pro-WCHA take. Let the dominance continue.

  10. Hmmmm, just when Lundblum is on his way out maybe we can find another name to bewilder Woog.

It doesn't take much to bewilder Dougie when it comes to pronunciations. Just think if he had to say "Mazacco" regularly. I think his mis-pronunciations are endearing and entertaining. On a related note, did you hear all the love he was giving the Sioux and especially Bochenski & Parise in the Final 5 Championship? I just replayed it (you have to tape it when it's a "hang a banner" game) and thought he'd be wearing green between periods. Perhaps he thought it was still St.Patty's day.

  11. Okay... I'm a man of my word so I'll go ahead and say it. The gophers are back. They played really well last weekend, and I'll be the first to admit that I didn't think they would. Savor the flavor gopher fans.

    However...

It seems that everything is still going according to the master plan... :D

    Airmail's Master Plan

If only you would have added "St." to your Michigan Nostradamus (I think I butchered that name) would be jealous.

  12. Don't worry my fellow Sioux fan, there is alot of hockey to be played. My prediction is that at the end of the year in April the Sioux will be hoisting #8!

They looked awesome saturday night and desrved to win. If anyone doesn't think that the Sioux won't be ready come NCAA time....just wait. THe feeling I am getting is that the Sioux are extremely pissed they lost that game and it won't happen again....period. They want it and want it bad. I just hope they meet the gerbils again. Especially cheap shot artist Vanek. Vanek broke the old Gopher record of whimps backing down to Sioux players. (the previous record of Westrum the Weasel backing down to Mike Commodore). Vanek has backed down to Matt Greene more times than Democrat in an argument with a Republican. I can't wait to meet them again. The Sioux will prevail!

If you think the Sioux are much better then the Gophers you are delusional. The Sioux are a great team and have earned their ranking. Both teams are favorites to win a title. Leave it at that and dial the machismo down. BTW, I did see Vanek thank Greene for the assist on his goal. :D

I agree that the Sioux have bounced back well this year after tough losses and have the character to do it again. IMO they will have to play better then Sat. night to win a title. I've only seen them play 7 times this year and have seen them play much better.

  13. Well, I never said that. I thought the Gophers would win. I wanted to see a Sioux-Gopher championship game because I think it will tell a great deal about which team has the best shot at winning the national championship. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the winner of this game wins it all.

PCM may it be as you have stated.

  14. Bottom line: The Sioux have the better resume over the season and have earned the #1 overall seed. However, the Gophers have stepped-up their intensity and have equal talent with the Sioux and IMO the two teams are even on neutral ice. They are both Great teams.

  15. Can't wait for this one. what a way its been setup for the championship !! 2 talented teams going head to head. I think both teams have palymakers when talking about vanek and parise. 2 talented freshman with brady and ryan p.. i believe the sioux have even more talented freshman in the long run.. stafford jordan, smaby and porter who are key role players out there.. i believe the difference is goaltending. i like our chances in any type of game that happens weather its fast or tight checking.. jake or jordan will win the game tonight the way i look at it.. i hope thats what happens anyway.. no injuries and lets move on to COLORADO SPRINGS next weekend.... we will pack rto sullivans tonight in AZ to watch the sioux win!!!!!!!!! 4-2 SIOUX

    Parise -2

    murray- 1

    stafford- 1

    vanek-1

    ballard-1

    LETS GO SIOUX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How right you were... it was an even game and in the end the difference was goaltending.

  16. I just finished watching a tape of the game...That's why I love College Hockey! I am emotionally spent. I agree that Irmen should have been MVP.

These teams are both worthy of Frozen 4 bids and I hope they meet again in Boston. WPoS, I like your chances in your bet with Goon. Personally, I don't care where they stick the Gophers for the Tourney. C. Springs, Grand Rapids, if the Gophers play with the heart they showed last night they can take all comers on the road to Boston.

Big Picture: I'm glad nobody got hurt last night, IMO these teams will meet again in Beantown.

  17. Since this game has little to no impact on the NCAA seedings I think the major concern is that nobody from either team gets hurt. That said, to me this game rides on how much desire the gophers play with (Sioux intensity is more consistent). I believe (hope) that UMN plays like they did in outscoring the #4 team in the 6-1 and outshooting them 32-13 (WOW!) in the 2nd and 3rd periods last night and deny the Sioux the Broadmoor 5-4 in O.T. with a goal from a hustling Thomas Vanek taking advantage of an over-agressive Brandt. :silly: Bigger picture I hope this game is a pre-curser to another meeting in Boston.
