  1. Add lacrosse and maybe women's field hockey. I would love to go FBS but I think we need to do some kind of damage in the BSC/FCS to not only up the attendance but up the fanbase. There are way more hockey only fans than UND sports fans if it was equal we would see close to record attendance at the Betty and Alerus but without winning kills that. Win first, then FBS later. Going now makes no sense, going after an FBS split with the Super 5 going one way and the FBS sucking up FCS teams then UND could get in. It's nice to dream about this but it won't happen anytime soon.

    ^^^^^^this

I don't see any point in getting fired up about a move until the FBS split is underway. If or when an opportunity to make a change presents itself, we'll be glad we're in a solid conference for all sports. Once Bubba gets the team winning again, the idea of expanding the Alerus may gain some traction.

  2. All I've seen the past few years is UND making a run in the conference tournament.....

One win in the post season tournament isn't what I would consider a run. Being satisfied with one game "runs" in the big sky tournament, and beating ndsu being called a signature win, speaks volumes to how complacent we've become with this basketball program.

  3. I'm as mad as anyone right now, but couldn't the ass whopping against NDSU (who beat Notre Dame and is projected to be as high as a 12 seed in the tournament) earlier this year count for one of these?

Wow....just......wow. If that qualifies as a signature win after 8 years....just.....wow.

  4. As I stated in my earlier post, in the United States (which is what I meant by "football, in general, is far more popular and successful than hockey within this country.") football is considered the more popular sport. This does indeed change when dealing internationally.

Comparing collegiate hockey to FCS football is not "belittling" UND hockey, but rather it simply portrays two NCAA classifications (DI hockey and FCS [D-1AA] football) possessed by UND that both deserve recognition and respect. There is no reason to say collegiate hockey is greater than FCS football. With that said, UND is certainly a more established hockey school and that goes without debate.

Again, bringing up different sports along with hypothetical situations does not prove I am criticizing UND hockey. I attend nearly every home UND hockey game and enthusiastically support the team each and every year. With that said, I understand it doesn't make UND hockey any more popular in terms of national perception.

Lastly, I would like to say "going full retard" is perhaps a bit unnecessary and inappropriate. Statistics show that football is the most popular and successful sport in the United States, so why not embrace FCS football and UND football. I personally believe FCS football and collegiate hockey are extremely similar. Simply stating one is played at the highest level and the other isn't does not work in this case because of football's national status.

I wasn't referring to you in particular with the full retard comment....although it looked that way when I had quoted you. for that I am sorry.

Once again, I fail to see the point of any of us discussing things such as attendance, number of schools competing in said sport, affiliation of said schools in their other sports, general fan following, national popularity, regional popularity, and on , and on, and on..... NONE of it changes the fact that UND is successful at the highest level of collegiate hockey. NONE of it changes the fact FCS football is a step below FBS football.

Saying that UND hockey is similar to FCS football is factually incorrect; we need not go any further. But yet,..... we do......

  5. Perhaps we should try a little something called common sense.

Football, in general, is far more popular and successful than hockey within this country.

We can continue to debate the FCS vs. NCAA hockey thing if you want, but I'd rather look at it like this.

Tier II football equals DI collegiate hockey. This is because tier I football is way way out of the league of college hockey. No comparison.

Furthermore, it is possible for FCS football to put our school and athletic program on the map nationally, even amongst your beloved tier I schools.

Unfortunately, it's already been done 70 miles south of us.

    Take a look: http://mweb.cbssport...-top-25-caliber

What map are you looking at anyway? How about internationally? Look at the Olympics. Where are the FCS athletes on the world stage? I'll never understand why a UND "fan" would belittle the successes of the hockey program....or any of our programs for that matter. If we had a world class Croquet Team, I would not be going on UND chat boards, siding with FU fans, and belittling the successes of the Croquet Program using the misguided logic that it's not as important as other sports. SMH. Hockey is Hockey. Football is football. Croquet is croquet. Being the best at the highest level offered in your sport is something to be proud of, not something to be belittled by going full retard on meaningless stats.

  6. Getting back to conference alignment....some questions about the future...

if the big BCS conferences break away in the coming years, how does that affect Big Sky, and Summit/MVFC schools? Will there be another massive round of conference juggling as the weaker FBS schools move to join the FCS ranks? Is the Big Sky better positioned than Summit schools, that currently have football in a different conference? Or won't it make any difference if/when the time comes?

  7. Rebounds are definitely an "effort" stat.

Exactly. And when you have a team that is as athletically gifted as this one, that doesn't rebound, it's quite telling how much "effort" is being put into it. Hopefully they can turn the "effort" switch on for the home stretch...but it usually doesn't work like that.

  8. Defense, rebounding, and shot selection are three glaring inconsistencies of this team. I can only hope Jones has been stressing defensive and rebounding drills, with threats of riding the pine if you don't. If you don't find your man and box him out, and he gets the rebound and an offensive put back, you're coming out. Simple as that.

  9. UND hockey competes at the highest Level offered in collegiate athletics. FCS football is not the highest level of collegiate football. . It is a fact. Attendance, opinions of popularity, and varying definitions of "big time" are just silly childish straw man comebacks that don't change the facts. I don't care what level each UND sport competes at- I will be supportive regardless. But that doesn't mean I won't be proud to point out 7 national titles won at the highest level of competition are the crown jewel of accomplishments.

  10. Not sure I'd call that breathing room... 1 loss, and 2 Sac State wins, and if you don't own the tie breakers, you could go from tied for 2nd, to 8th place and out of the tournament. The rest of the games are must wins. Jones- coached teams don't win the big ones, so I'm not holding my breath.
